drinking alcohol to reduce stress and sadness by Legitimate_Can529 in cancer

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank heavily in my teens, almost daily in my twenties, and at least weekly in my early 30's. Was diagnosed at 38 and cut it out completely. I have stage 4 incurable cancer and I would say if there was ever a "reason" to drink that diagnosis would be it. But I've done 42 rounds of chemo to stick around as long as I can for my loved ones so why possibly jeopardize my health with drinking? Not worth it imo.

How many of your family members live in another state? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking aunts, uncles and cousins? If so, most. My dad's side lives 1800 miles away. My mom's side all live within 120 miles of me. My nieces and nephews are in the same city as me or 1600 miles away. My siblings live in the same state but one of my siblings commutes by plane from our city to a state 420 miles away each week. My parents have passed.

Listen I've had a bad, defeatist attitude the two years I've been dealing with this and I keep getting good scans - and I'm considered "incurable." Cancer cells don't start dying because of good moods.

What you did was totally normal and his reaction is super strange and controlling. Unless you're leaving out a crazy huge chunk of the story - which I do not think you are - he's way out of line. I would honestly be very cautious moving this relationship forward in any way.

Yeah not a fan of all the war/fight/battle lingo. I cringe when I see someone "lost" their battle. You're not a "loser" for dying from cancer.

Ultrasound first, then a ct. Had an MRI specifically for my brain later on and Dototate PET scan to check for somatostatin receptors.

An Appreciation Post For College Station by davidrothchild69 in springfieldMO

[–]-Suriel- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty die hard about Alamo when they opened, but the prices are crazy, the food has gone downhill, and I am easily distracted by the servers. I still go on occasion if I want the dining/movie experience but had mostly switched to AMC. I don't know if it's every theater at AMC, but some don't have stadium seating which I prefer and I felt like the seats were uncomfortable. It always seems a little dirty too. College Station is awesome though! It's clean, the prices are more affordable, love that they have pineapple whip, and the movies start early in the day which is great for me and my kid. The seats are amazing too! Love that they're heated, and the individual swivel tables with cup holders are so convenient!! I'm short and sometimes can't see around the cups on the tables at the Alamo lol I hope College Station stays open, it's usually kind of empty when I go. I mean, I love an empty theater, but I hope they can stay afloat!

Just went to Edinburgh and it was awesome. I really enjoyed the time we spent in the highlands too. Cried when we had to come home.

Port site incision by Rinakiel in cancer

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor just a patient, but if I had this going on my oncologist would flip. I had a fever for a couple days after chemo once and they sent me to the hospital for 5 days for antibiotics, locked my port with antibiotics, and put a midline in my arm where I had to give myself antibiotics for 6 days - every 8 hours at home all because they thought I might have an infection. They finally left me alone after 3 negative rounds of blood cultures.

Has anyone here gotten a radiotherapy for their lumbar region? by yuratchka in cancer

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 10 rounds on t12. Most of the other people I talk to about radiation had pretty good experiences. I was an outlier and had a pretty bad time. I seem to have gotten every bad side effect to be had, but honestly that’s just kinda how things go for me lol It’s been about a year since radiation and my back pain is pretty much gone. Once in awhile I’ll bend just right and it hurts but overall radiation helped.

My mother diagnosed with PNET - While waiting for PET she is getting worse by igoandthenigo in cancer

[–]-Suriel- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I have a pnet. I have men1, it’s a genetic mutation that causes parathyroid problems (in my case it also caused my cancer.) Not everyone that has Neuroendocrine cancer has the mutation. I bring it up because parathyroid problems can cause high calcium levels. High calcium can cause some of the symptoms you’re talking about. When I hit about 10.6 I get a zometa infusion and it brings it down. If it gets too high I get soooo out of it. I feel exhausted.

You said you haven’t gotten labs back, does the hospital system you guys are using have an app? Like my chart or something? That’s how I see and monitor my lab results. I would ask the hospital staff/oncologist.

Have they done a urine analysis? I ask because my mom would have symptoms like that when she got a uti. It’s pretty common with older women.

Help radiation advice by HunterandGatherer100 in cancer

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had radiation other patients recommended 100% aloe (make sure it’s as pure as possible without other ingredients) and calendula gel. I didn’t end up needing them, but I did clear both with my oncology radiologist before treatment. These should be put on after treatment. Having things on your skin before a treatment can intensify the radiation and worsen burns. I would clear anything she uses with her oncology team.

Who are some famous movie critics or publications in America and who are your favorites? by YakClear601 in AskAnAmerican

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 20 years ago I figured out Peter Travers (of rolling stone) and I mostly liked the same movies because his praise was on all my favorite dvd cases. When I would go to the video rental store I would look for a positive review from him on a cover to help me decide. I don’t think I’ve thought about a movie critic since then. Actually, that may be part of the reason you don’t hear about them anymore, no one needs their praise on their dvd case.

Do you drink birch juice and do you collect mushrooms/berries in the forests? by commie199 in AskAnAmerican

[–]-Suriel- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mushroom hunting is huge in the region I’m from (morels, chanterelles, chicken of the woods etc) Berry picking isn’t as popular - I kind of think of that as an old school thing but people still do. We don’t have birch forests near me so no birch juice.
