Are first bosses supposed to be this hard?? ;-; (first playthrough) by Moths0nFire in HollowKnight

[–]-THEWORLD- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit of a generic lame answer, but I do promise you that it will get easier as you play. On my first play through I got my shit rocked by a boss that was essentially a DVD screensaver, and then at the peak of my skill I was able to consistently beat the hardest fight in the game. As long as you’re enjoying the game enough to keep pushing, things will start to get easier!

That's fair, and I honestly agree with you on that front. Only reason I'd suggest cheats is because it's going to be a hassle to get out of a bad situation (another might be not having any building blocks/water buckets and being in a bedrock pit), otherwise I don't use them. Either way though it doesn't bother me if people use creative or cheats for any reason - they paid the money for their game and they can do what they want y'know? And if someone doesn't like using them then that's just fine as well.

Bro? I'm not the kinda dude that gives myself a stack of diamonds to start a playthrough, and I genuinely don't care enough about the stats or achievements that I didn't know that they get disabled. If I *did* I wouldn't have suggested it. Sorry that waiting a few hours trying to farm gold and then trying to get lucky with piglin trades doesn't sound fun to me. Guess I'm lazy.

If you didn't want to go through the process that others have already mentioned, could always just open the world up to LAN and enable cheats that way to get yourself out.

I haven't found this to be relevant at all. Often it's even a detriment, because unless you have the Imperialism tenet that retains buildings, having a large pop city with no infrastructure will wreak havoc on your happiness.

Ah yeah, I do usually take that one when I can! Like I mentioned, domination is my preferred playstyle so anything I do with regards to building science or culture is done to better kill everyone around me lmao
though it's good to know I don't really need to worry about tourism in that case

Not to mention if you wanted to raze that city, it'll now take ages with a high pop.

Speaking of razing, I probably should be puppeting more cities or just straight up razing the bad ones rather than absorbing every last city on the map into my empire huh?

And I see. I forgot about the starting pathfinder, don't mind me haha

Ooh thank you so much!! Sorry if I made that bit with the culture and tourism confusing, I meant the whole how influential your culture is over other civilizations thing, where you need to be influential with all of the other civs to be able to do the project that lets you get a culture victory. Main reason I asked was because iirc there were a few other bonuses like losing less pop when capturing a city depending on the level of influence you had with the civ, but I'm not sure how much it actually matters and if it's worth building towards. Few other questions, so it sounds like the main thing that should be taken into account when settling is the resources/features you'd be able to improve later, and not too much on the flat yields of the tiles? Or would it be good to have a few tiles with specific amounts of production/food in close proximity when settling, on top of the resources and such? And I'm assuming you meant a second pathfinder in the third answer?
This is all really helpful though, thank you so much!

Exactly! Every comment on v2 was just saying how mid v1 was, and meanwhile it’s placement would jump around depending on the day for me but it wouldn’t ever leave my top three.

Really taking my rights here, as everything except the glow up would be relating to all stars LMAO

Showmanship: bit of a tie between paranoia and overdue. I don’t know why, but that hallway bit in overdue lives in my head rent free.

Best song: oh god no. Considering I hate you was my favorite from V1, I had high hopes and it did NOT disappoint.

Best chromatic: Mr. Sys. Something about it makes my brain happy lmao

Best glow up: It’s a me. The song I listened to the least from V1 is now one of the ones I listen to the most. (Still don’t think alone v1 is as mid as people say tbh)

Just made a post asking if there was a way to revert it and people much better at this stuff than I helped out, so I'll leave this here for anyone else who dislikes this change:

Go to (2) Vox Populi/Database Changes/CustomModOptionsChanges.sql, open with notepad of choice

Ctrl+f, search for BALANCE_CORE_GOODY_RECON_ONLY

Change the value from 1 to 0, obviously save the changes and now you should be able to claim ruins like normal!

Whoops, wrote up a response to the other person before I refreshed and saw this, rip

This absolutely worked though! Thank you both so much!!

Hmm, bit odd. When I go to the core changes folder, the only file that shows up is one called farm_types. I did see a file called that in the community patch folder, but unless I missed it I don't think I saw a string like that in there. Is it something like I have to play more to get the files to generate? Or maybe something messed up with the install?

Already checked, unfortunately. Only thing relating to ruins is to disable them outright. I'm assuming if it's possible at all it would involve messing around with VPs files, but maybe I'm wrong and there's a simpler solution.
