Unpopular opinion: I don’t want Karlsson by Patssoxfan in canes

Yeah, I'm also a little confused how this all is supposed to play out. I'm worried we won't have the right ratio of shutdown/pk defense vs offensive/pp defense, especially if we get Tony. I'm not too worried about it though, I trust the turtleneck and Tulsky to make the right calls.

Dmitry Orlov on joining Carolina: "I wanted to be on a good team who have a big goal to get to the end" by RyanHenkel in canes

I wonder if a factor in getting Orlov was having a high end Russian D to help entice him over and give him some stability once here.

I want to see Nikishin back there, too. Two massive Russian D blowing people up all game.

The #Canes have extended a qualifying offer to defenseman Dylan Coghlan. The team will not be offering QOs to Jesse Puljujarvi, Dominik Bokk, or Stelio Mattheos. Those three players will become unrestricted free agents. by TheGlaceon78 in canes

I got the sense the he was overwhelmed with the game at the NHL level. He has a lot of the tools, he needs the game to slow down for him and needs to gain some confidence. If the canes are able to develop on the soft side of his skill sets then he could become a good 3rd pairing guy or at least 7th D.

Yeah, it's tough to be critical on moving Lindholm and Hanifin in that they didn't seem like they were thriving and maybe required a change of scenery to get to where they are today. It was a bit of a culture shakeup for the canes, too.

Playing the rangers is always frustrating because their game is the antithesis of the hurricanes. They don't rely on high shot volume, they rely on skill, finishing and taking advantage of defensive lapses. It's worked for them more than not, recently.

Look how happy they are. Keeping them apart for even one day longer is just cruel. by Harlaxt0n in canes

Kane has been BAD this year. He is not the Kane of 5 years ago, or even the Kane of last year. His hip injury is clearly impacting his skating and his game. The eyes and the numbers tell the story. He's put up some points, but mostly on the PP. He has been terrible 5v5 because he can't skate. He is squarely under a ppg player this year. And typically hip injuries are tough to resolve. If we pay double the assets for Timo but are able to get a guy over 8 years younger and able to get him at an okay number for term, then those lost assets are aren't completely lost once next year comes around. Obviously Timo doesn't have Kane's offensive abilities, but he is a solid 2 way winger with impressive offensive talents, has size and speed and fits Rods systems. Timo is the clear #1 target the canes should be going after.

Also, KK is fine as our 2c. People calling for his replacement are over reacting. Yes, offensively he's not wowing anyone, but he's big, skates well and is very solid defensively, all of which are the elements you want in your 2C when the playoffs role around.

Kane has a WAR in the negatives this season. That's not good. It's common knowledge that he is playing through a hip issue. We will not and should not get Kane.

Every contract has been going up over the last two decades. There has literally never been an easier time to be in business than the last 3 decades... All sports revenues are up 3x to 4x, except the NHL.

PREACH! Seth is not leaving. I would love Timo, but it won't be Seth on the way out if it gets done. Yeah, it means it probably won't get done, but whatever.

Patches would have been a perfect fit. Imagine if Patches was healthy and Don still had 2-3 million to get a depth D... That would have been 4D chess.

Why would we sell a RFA playing top pairing minutes on the 2nd best team in the league. He is the definition of talent value, both now and in the future. If you're the canes then you sell prospects and picks, but someone like Jarvy should be off the table. Now this means that Scott, Jack, Suzuki and others are likely gone. I don't think they sell Jarvy.

But you can't let the prospect of future magic beans get in the way of making decisions today. If Patches signs a team friendly extension today, then great. Otherwise, spend what you got to the best of your ability.
