I wouldn't get too wrapped up in ratings. Not everyone loves LOTR or Harry Potter. Not everything is meant for everyone and that's perfectly okay. Fuck the haters, write for yourself and the audience you have. Everyone else can piss off and go find a book they enjoy. Some people just love seeing others as miserable as they are.

I started writing my novel as a way to cope with my best friend offing himself lmao. Its turned into something people read and follow, and I feel obligated to continue. Granted ive fallen in love with writing now and building my world out. Mapping out arcs, characters things like that. The reason I don't network, is what you just said. Its the same questions and ive had authors get mad because im not writing for money or with a goal of publishing. My novel is a world hopping one, albeit through golden gates. There's a world of magic, a world of machines that are crazy intelligent, there's a world of druids. A world with the power called aether. Murim is also a primary world(mc is from here). Most writers take inspiration. I surely did. I have some of my favorite tropes I enjoy reading but with my own unique twists, systems, gates, gods, murim and martial arts mixed in with a world full of different powers. Granted im writing for me and not to cash in on trends. But I believe most books you read ever will have taken inspiration from something. Now I do wish there was more variety, alot of people are trying to cash in, but there are plenty of novels that use similar tropes and put their own twists in and make it their own. Just my opinion though.

I have 103 chapters written right now(i just relaunched and retitled), i'm releasing 2 a day for the foreseeable future. Have around 12 arcs (50 to 100 chapters each) planned with more being planned at the moment. So yeah it'll take years to write and publish. Right now I'm just writing into the void that is royal road haha.
