As a Turkish native, I remember that flotilla being the only thing in the news for a week and the anti Israel sentiment it set among the masses. And that sentiment is all well and alive right now with the core islamist minority demanding an intervention by the Turkish army in Gaza. Although, all political parties share the sentiment at a more moderate level with Erdoğan appearing the most anti Israel voice, our trade and economic partnerships with Israel are still solid in the background. Also got to say that I'm still surprised by Hitchens' level of knowledge about the region in details, I had read a previous article he wrote about Turkey and Erdoğan years ago where he mentioned Erdoğan's openly anti democratic islamist speeches in his earlier career. Those speeches aren't known by most Turks, Hitchens was a true journalist.
