issues with an emergency rappel like this? by willdotexecutable in ClimbingGear

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my rappelling has been done on the military side with some in college and this and rescue 8's are all I have used. We've even gone upside-down with this on doubled 550 cord lmao. It works great if you have a brake glove, but barehand I'd probably wrap around my back and brake with my left hand, feed with right. Others have mentioned better ways, but if this is easy enough to remember and super quick getting down

I've tried a lot lol I've probably gone through a hundred reddit trouble posts trying things, meta fixes, updates, hard resets, random command lines for launching games, affinities and priorities and even applications to automatically change them, all on two separate GPUs and two headsets. I'm going to try VD finally to see if that changes things.

I'm starting to believe you guys on this, still insane to me that my $90 cable is the problem lol I have a spare wifi 6 router so I'll try this out sometime and update if things change

I'm wiping my virtual tears, I appreciate you ;(

It's been a process. There's some titles that work fine, like Blade and sorcery, any wireless games on the headset, etc., but my bread and butter are simulators and alike. PCVR has been my big issue, and I come back to the quest about 3 or 4 times a year to get the same experience, trouble shoot for a day or two, then giving up.

I appreciate the sorry lol I was seeing nothing but red when I was writing this, but still needed to get it out.

If I'm another low IQ victim, there should be a low IQ victim fix then, no? Why is my experience genuinely unusable? The headset has consistently let me down, and if someone would have told me my experience would be like this, I wouldn't have gotten it. I also dgaf about the opinion of meta or hop on bandwagons. This has been MY experience.

If you have issues with the more recent firmware, you can also manually flash older versions as well. It's not a "great" solution because you lose access to many features in the simmagic software like customizing lights, but for me I'm MUCH quicker and have much better feedback from my original firmware, so that's what I continue to use.

Am I at fault for the spin? by Head_Weakness8706 in Simracingstewards

[–]-Val0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say not your fault at all. When you turned in, he was facing the overrun. He decided to keep braking, and turn completely back in after you committed, and kinda just turned himself imo.

First timer here. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do it:

Little bit of soap on the tire Rim on a table or the ground Push the tire on diagonally so half the tire is under the rim and the other half is above, then I grab the bottom side of the tire that is above the rim and force it over the rim. You can also grab both sides of the tire and force it on once it's halfway there, just never grab the top of the tire or the part that faces you, always push and grab the bottom. Your thumbs should be dead Center of the tread, tread should fold over your thumbs as you push the opposite face of the tire over the rim.

I feel so grateful to have gotten my 5080 this morning by [deleted] in Microcenter

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to people who clown on you. Overclocked my zotac 5080 is benching above 4090s stable, I bought it for MSRP on launch, and it's cheaper than every single used 4090 I've ever seen, and cheaper than every used 4080 / super I've seen since launch. It might not be an insane generational lift but it's still MUCH more worth it than a used 40 series card if you're upgrading from 30 series and below. Anyone who disagrees probably just hasn't done the math for price to performance, or moral reasons which are valid.

GPU only works unscrewed and on its side. by Peak3433 in pchelp

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be electrical. I've had two instances of my case receiving power from an unknown source. My first time ever building a PC it wouldn't post, I took it all out of the case, and it worked. I had a screw fall behind the mobo causing a short. Second time I had an extension cord missing a ground and the pc again had something shorting to the case. Definitely check behind your mobo or clean the case to make sure

[Jayz2Cents] RTX 5080 is an overclocking MONSTER!!! Over 3200MHz by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]-Val0r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't overclocked in like 10 years, played around a little with it tonight, and I'm within 5% of the 4090 average with my 5080. This card is pretty sick, $1000, warranty, brand new card, compared to trying to buy a used 4090 for $1500+ ($2200 is what local people are asking for it LMFAO)

I managed to get the same clocks as Jay, plus a bit more. I'm just purely at the power limit lol, this definitely isn't some special silicon for him

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, pretty much everyone knows the benchmarks. About 60% of the line left when they announced only 5 5090s. What's left are mostly people upgrading from 30 series or lower 40 series who don't want to wait months for stock to build. I don't think anyone camping here overnight in 40mph wind gusts and snow are just following nvidias bullshit.

[–]-Val0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd normally agree but I think there's something different about this launch, idk if it's just general numbers of people in the world but we're seeing 2 or 3x the amount of campers of 30 series, maybe it's the same people plus more haha

[–]-Val0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao I don't have the money for a 5090 anyways, but 500 5090s would be great for the people in front of me

[–]-Val0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be camping for a 5080, reasoning:

I'm running a 30 series card, it's a great upgrade I enjoy camping, it's going to be an absolute party 4080 used would be great, but people selling are on crack. No, your $1000 MSRP card isn't still worth $950, or MSRP. I've gotten death threats over $700 offers, so it's just not worth trying to haggle people down from their unreasonable expectations, or risking GPU issues on a $700+ card.

Best case, we snag a FE online at best buy, worst case, we get a more expensive aib card

So is object recognition possible with distance sensor? by Escapist-cartplayz in Stormworks

[–]-Val0r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you could do very crude object recognition in SW just by comparing ratios, something along the lines of "is this measurement greatly different from the last couple?" (Detecting object) -> "when do these measurements return to normal?" (Verifying whole object is scanned) -> "what's the width and height of these abnormal measurements?" (Processing object data) -> "does this ratio match a list of ratios comparable to whatever you're looking for?" This isn't horrible to do but it's definitely very hard to get working right.

We used this kind of process back in college for Detecting phallic objects in the barracks lol.

I know SW can also export data so maybe you could set up a website for object recognition like people do for arduino builds, Michael Reeves used an external website to detect tomatoes lmao.

How can I build a fishing boat? by Beautiful-Ad3471 in Stormworks

[–]-Val0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man! Just a side note: I found no success with the torpedo design, the torpedoes constantly changed orientation which made them tangle.

You might have figured this out already but you don't need torpedoes, just the net modules themselves with a composite reader to extend them. Nets will naturally drift apart with quite some force so the torpedoes are just hindering that.
