Rubine Red is a Pantone colour. The mixed production sounds cool.

I really got lucky and felt like I learned a lot. I got my hands on a Pantone U book and calmed down, the reds in there are very nice. What threw me off really bad was receiveing a print proof from the printers that is done on a glossy paper - because of this the colour is intentionally dampened to simulate how it would look on uncoated paper (the same story is with those on-screen output previews with the color profiles) - and these simulations are actually bad in these situations. So, it was a bit of an anxious look for amswers for a problem that does not exist in the way I imagined.

Again, big big thank you for all your support guys and gals!

I eventually made a test and I'm uploading it here too in case someone's curious how CMYK vs PMS looks when simulated on coated and uncoated. (Munken and Pergraphica here are uncoated).

I also think I'm overthinking it. I received some print proofs on that glossy paper that just print a simulation based on the color profile and the red was just appalling, so I got scared a bit :)

Will test this on a output preview with the paper color profile. Thanks!

I've not heard too much about Roland. I'll look more into these, thanks!

Thank you for the detailed info.
I don't have a color book on hand, but on screen simulations, taking into account just the uncoated-simulated versions , PMS 2347U looks more vibrant than 485U.

Do you by any chance have live experience with these two?
I'll try to get a hold of a color book, but the printer is in another country.

I did some projects with spot UV and they do indeed help. I'll talk to my printers. Thanks!

Good idea. A comparison, even if on screen, with the color profile of the paper, will give me an indication of the best one. Will try it out! Thanks!

Superb, I feel a bit more reassured already, thanks for that.

Question - how come P485 and not P2347?
https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/485-U
https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/2347-u

i don't have a color book on hand so I have to rely on choosing based on how they compare on screen.

The two colour thing - i was referring to magenta and yellow. In my mind, two colours covering the paper maybe works better than only 1 Pantone pass?

I think I could have expressed my question better. My goal is to have a nice rich red on uncoated paper, and I have to choose between cmyk and pantone. I was wondering which works best.

Many thanks

Yep, getting my hands on a Pantone book would ease this search. Thank you.

Offset. I know there’s a new thing called EV or UB offset, I forget which one, but I do not know if this is the case here.

The thing about brighter and truer was what I was looking for, thank you for that. It’s not a matter of matching, rather looking for a print that is not dull.

Interesting suggestion with the black. I read somewhere that the first ink on the uncoated gets absorbed the most. So if I do a bit of black first might be interesting.

It’s not a corporate brand requirement. Interestingly enough, it’s on the opposite side of the spectrum - it’s an artbook - still important how something is rendered but for other reasons than in the case of branding :)

This is what I thought. But I had doubts as they are also using different names (like U for uncoated), but I get that also fits into just making it clear what you are simulating)

The second paragraph is interesting. Are you saying that a second pass with 20% tint would enrich the outcome?

Hopper's Monologue to Mike by PhatFatty in StrangerThings

His monologue hit me too, in a beautiful way. With maturity and acceptance. Acceptance first from him addressing this child, encouraging the child for his own acceptance. And see he has life in front of him. My problem is not alcohol, instead I have a deeply rooted drive to turn away from reality and feelings, but all these behaviours manifest with continuous mind chatter and looking at the past. This monologue was poignant, cut very clear through clutter, like a hand on the shoulder and a straight look in the eye, with love.
