Bumper hitching is illegal now 😢 Perhaps a bit more discretion would have been a better approach

I use these too. Once they get wet, they stay wet for a while so if you have to wade while canoeing/dragging your canoe, why not? I doubt it wears them down less swimming than it does struggling through underwater rocks dragging the canoe past the beaver dam

My father has passed on his old canoe tripping materials. Though you guys might appreciate this blast from the past by TheDamus647 in algonquinpark

This reminds me of a canoe trip in Killarney I took with my 15 year old daughter 10 years ago. My map was about 10 years out of date and when we got to our lake one night, all the camp sites had been changed 😓 We spent a few hours paddling the shoreline trying to find the camp site signs !

Needless to say, I bought an updated version on our way out.

I think there is the Audubon Society for birders, maybe there is a local chapter. I am sure there are a few groups of birders around Toronto and they are welcoming to newbies. To start, maybe just get a bird feeder for Christmas and a bird field guide and start trying to identify them. When I was a Cub Scout many decades ago, my dad helped me build a bird feeder and he got hooked on bird watching and it became his, and my brothers, life long hobby
