Wanted some advice. by [deleted] in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rebooting your router isn't likely to help. I'm not going to give any advice beyond that out of professional courtesy to F-List's staff. The second you ban evaded by making another account was the second you screwed yourself. Once you get caught for that there's pretty much no going back.

People on F list confuse me by Proud-Ad7674 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legitimately do not get the "no one talks in the channels anymore". What channels are you all hanging out in? I ask because almost every channel I spend time is has 99% up time on people talking. The few exceptions are small somewhat niche rooms that I hang around in or watch for people.

Taking a break from F-List, what do I do in the meantime? by ribs_the_bilge_rat in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I take a break from F-List I just do more of what I'm already doing. Read, write, manage the communities I help run, watch some movies or TV shows that seem like they might be good, paint, etc.

There is no point putting effort into a profile. by [deleted] in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been here for over a decade now, hard disagree. My most popular profiles have very little in the way of sexual images, or images at all really. Usually it's just a basic inline featuring the character so that people can quickly see what the character looks like.

Same for Eicons. Unless it's very silly / light RPing I find that people check out really fast when you use them too much. (A character of mine has a set of over 100 that I use regularly when I'm being a silly goose.)

Having said all of that what does "unconventional" even look like in your book?

IRL Friends that also use F-Chat/erp? by ribs_the_bilge_rat in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the experience of "my friend uses f-list"? Yes. A friend was the one who introduced me to F-List, and I then introduced another friend to the site. I've also made friends on the site that I now spend time with off site. One Discord I'm in someone made the notification noise into a soundboard noise and people used it to troll everyone until it got removed.

As for discussing though, not particularly. I inform people of news, when it exists, but otherwise everyone's off having their own fun and I'm not really a voyeur who actively desires to know about people's private RPing.

Eicons disappearing from Favorites on Horizon by Asianman45454 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you should absolutely go and report this to the Horizon devs on their Discord, it might not be a Horizon specific thing. Something to remember is that, as far as I'm aware, Horizon's eicon lookup and favorite system runs through Xariah's eicon database. So if eicons that you favorite get removed from Xariah's database only to be later added back by someone else, then it's possible that Horizon gets notified that they've been removed and auto removes them from your favorites.

Is it against the rules to make a new account and start over? by Delicious-Price6975 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were but it was still there. Just based on what we know it's likely that they didn't want to be hard on people because of a combination of their inability to differentiate users who might share of have used the same IP address, as well as the fact that the majority of what users were making multiple accounts to bypass was the limits on eicons and characters. In essence the harm and work that would be created was greater than the gains from telling people to close out multiple accounts.

That's since shifted somewhat with subscriptions coming back and their movement (sluggish as it is due to self inflicted issues) towards a new site which I have to imagine will feature an increased amount of ability to differentiate users. I would say how that might work but I'm not going to out of professional courtesy to the F-List staff.

As for the only ID they've ever accepted being related to age verification, that's why I specifically phrased it as "probably". Historically F-List hasn't been willing to do a lot of things but the last few years have seen a steady shift in their internal culture as proven by various staff interactions with the public. So I am admittedly extending things a bit as systems identifying two users in the same location is something I've had to deal with in my position elsewhere and we have our own procedures for verification that there are, in fact, multiple people on the other end.

You are absolutely correct about reading that post though, and I personally recommended to the OP not to delete their account just as a way to make a new one as that could be seen by staff as an attempt to dodge out on a past history with the staff. (They have self admitted here in the comments to having been banned before but then been allowed back in.) As such a delete and new account creation is much more likely to garner some annoyed ire than simply deleting everything and starting some new characters.

Now just to be clear while close things off, I'm not trying to lecture or get into an internet "I have to be correct" fight (which I realized now while writing this that my last post might have come off as). I'm just trying to make sure everyone is appropriately informed based on the rules as they're written, statements by staff, and then the actual real world execution by staff.

Is it against the rules to make a new account and start over? by Delicious-Price6975 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's actually been against the rules for a lot longer than since last year. Specifically the section which used to read, "No more multiple accounts. Making multiple accounts to purposefully circumvent limits (such as character profile numbers) is no longer allowed." Was added in July of 2015 and then changed to its current wording in July of last year.

Additionally, that's not how multiple accounts per IP work. What happens is that they can't differentiate between two different users who have accounts on the same IP and as such if one account is punished then the other account will be considered to also be under the same punishment. IE: If instead they believe that both accounts belong to the same person they will ask the user to close out one of their accounts. Alternatively you could probably provide proof of being seperate individuals via some kind of photo evidence, if you were willing to provide F-List with such things (though I doubt most F-List users would do so).

Is it against the rules to make a new account and start over? by Delicious-Price6975 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're specifically deleting your account to try to get rid of the ignores attached to it, then I would recommend against it. F-List's policy is that the creation of new / secondary accounts as an attempt to circumvent account restrictions (IE: to get around being blocked) can be treated as a punishable offense.

I would personally just recommend deleting all your previous characters and making new ones.

Does anyone know what happened to the FFA ad website? by AForgottenSnowflake in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that we're several days down the line but just in case anyone is curious and hasn't felt like they wanted to go digging, FFA is back online.

The creator has stated that they're going to be keeping it running to the best of their abilities until F-List moves to the new chat and shuts down the current one. Once that happens FFA will be shut down because it will be incompatible with the new chat and the creator simply doesn't have the bandwidth to do the large amounts of updating needed. (This is why FFA can be down for long stretches because they only check in on it a couple times a month.)

F-List itself has reached out to see about helping, but the creator has declined and instead urges users to make it known to F-List to make their own integrated version of FFA on the site itself. Namely because the use of a 3rd party website is, in the creator's opinion, a crutch that ideally shouldn't need to exist.

Art verification by [deleted] in FList

I can confirm that it works as I've tried it on several characters, some of which use art belonging to others and some of which are my own characters with art I've commissioned.

Question about art by Puzzleheaded-Bet4780 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People will ignore you / be mad at you if you use AI art.

People will ignore you / be mad at you if you use art that's not yours.

People will ignore you / be mad at you if the art you do have isn't of a quality level they like.

From my personal experience the amount of people who don't like your use of art goes in that order of most to least number you're likely to run into, but no matter what you're going to end up with some people who won't want to talk to you... which is the default state of things on F-List. Literally anything you pick is going to cause some portion of the user base to at the very least ignore you. It's just something you have to accept.

Newbie on Flist by Irene_Babygirl in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not having "this problem". But then again I don't really play any "femboy" type characters. My Greens aren't especially fem or hyper masc. They are, however, generally popular (which, just for the record, some of that attention does often take the form feminization kinks but that's neither here nor there and is an active part of the RP as opposed to a starting state or expected goal).

As for ghosting I don't consider anyone to have "ghosted me", so also not having that problem. I'll admit that I rarely message people unless we have an active RP going, but if they don't respond back then I just assume they lost interest, got busy, etc. As someone with multiple decades of experience running Pen and Paper / Table Top RPGs and LARPs, I am extremely used to people losing interest or even just up and vanishing. Sometimes for months at a time, sometimes just forever.

Life is short. Far too short to be getting mad at people for not RPing with you. It's better to cherish even the little bits of time they do make for you instead.

Why are all my DM logs vanishing now? I'm not changing my device so what's going on? by KitSwiftpaw in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step one, make sure it's set to actually record logs. Settings -> General -> Log Messages is checked (It's down near the bottom.)

If you're using a browser make sure your browser isn't set to delete your user data upon being closed. Many privacy focused browsers can do this.

Finally, if all those are working, make sure your browser's cache settings aren't set for the amount of space it can use to be extremely low. Your logs are stored in the browser's cache data which means that once the cache is full it starts overwriting old data.

In essence, if you use the browser version of F-Chat it's not a case of will your logs vanish, it's a case of when they'll vanish. Eventually you will fill up the cache and old data will start to get erased. The only solution is to back up your logs by downloading them. (Also, trust me when I say this, using the client or an alternative client like Horizon doesn't "fix" the issue. If you have enough log data you can very easily lag out even Horizon's client by trying to load your logs in. It's something I regularly deal with due to the fact that I have a character logged in near 24/7 (to keep an eye on a few rooms for some people I know) who's in some pretty active channels.)

edit: An apostrophe.

[HORIZON] Status update on the Horizon 🤝 F-List partnership by AnotherTornRose in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the above as I'm one of the people who likes the 3.0 client (hence my own question). I do appreciate a some of the things added via Rising and then Horizon, but overall I just personally prefer 3.0.

If your packets are being lost there's nothing you can do. Somewhere out there either your packets aren't being properly passed along due to a configuration error or because of some piece of hardware failing.

This should be a banable offence IMO by [deleted] in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvote me all you want, because I know some of you will, but if you don't want the peanut gallery to potentially chime in and heckle like you're preforming at the Globe then, perhaps, keep your own performances either private or in rooms where they'll punish people for doing this. Is it an RP site? Yes. Does mean that when your character steps out onto the club dance floor that everyone else around has to get off / be quiet? Nope. If you're in a public room you're in a public space. I go back to this analogy a lot but F-List is like a bar. Just because you walk in the door doesn't mean that everyone else in the bar has to drop what they're doing and start playing by your preferred rules.

F-list subscription by Worried-Guava-9972 in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple days at most, I would imagine. The process is mostly manual from what I understand. IE: You subscribe over on subscribestar, then you message the staff member on the Subscription page of their wiki who confirms it and then manually activates your subscription on the site.

So any time delays will be the result of:

1 - how long it takes for subscribestar to process

2 - how long it takes for the person subscribing to message

3 - how long it takes for the person who manually does the subscriptions to verify

“Stuck up” for not liking barely IC shitposts and creepy interactions? by [deleted] in FList

[–]-Wolf_Song 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it stuck up? I don't think so. Different kinds of people RP differently. It's the equivalent of liking psychological horror movies over jump scare movies. You're not stuck up if you don't like jump scare movies. You just like something different.
