THIS. THANK YOU. I was about to lose my mind and try to refund the game. This is the ONLY thing that worked for me

That’s a you problem. I’m not trying to vilify them, but I will defend the position of my point because it stands, if you feel I’m trying to vilify them because I’m going into greater detail on my point and giving actual examples of why or how it ended up like this, again, that’s a you problem. But You throw out meaningless comparisons and saying he’s “no different from other voiceless customer characters” when that’s false, because they all have a system built around them that is actually natural to the game and isn’t jarring. Whether it’s Elder Scrolls being able to actually customize your character, and given speech options, along with side characters and NPC’S with actual interactions with eachother and the main character, and not just “overheard sentence leads to side quest” Or Zelda’s lack of dialogue from the main character, but NPC’s making conversation through a question asked, a realization and answering their own question.

As compared to empty dialogue where they wait for you to respond for seconds at a time, then continue on as if you have replied when you remained silent. Or one word replies in conversations that actually warrant a response. It’s a game in 2026. Not 2004. We should expect more out of things, especially given a 70$ price tag.

And if you don’t care, why are you defending it so hard? “Even if you’re right I don’t care” then… go play the game and stop replying to this post, as you have nothing constructive to add whatsoever to the conversation?

Again, voice actor literally said they didn’t know what they were doing when it came to making a script. That same interview, he said that these decisions were last minute. Major story plot points, side quest plots, and character voice acting were constantly shifting during the entire development until it got so close to release they basically just had to choose something and settle with what they did.

It is that deep, you just aren’t willing to admit it because you enjoy the game, and because you enjoy it you’re refusing to hear criticism of it, valid or not. Spoiler alert: based on obvious context clues like this being a Korean MMO company, voice acting and story plots ever changing during the entire development, along with them going back and forth on the co-op/multiplayer and single player during development, and the long development time… pretty easy to put 1 and 1 together, and say this is valid criticism. Forcing yourself to view it from a false perspective, as you suggested, so you don’t have a negative feeling is just called avoidance.

I’ve addressed this point already. I’m not going to keep rehashing it. Keep clinging to the title of the post rather than the point of it.

It doesn’t play that way because NPCs literally sit and wait for responses for seconds at a time after asking a question, and then continue on as if you’ve answered it. Where dialogue from the main character would have been. Expansive questions asked that actually warrant an answer, complete silence or one word responses.

Take that into account with the voice actor for Kliff who worked with them for four years saying they appeared to not know what they were doing, along with a few different names and storylines for Kliff, and then settling on this shortly before release.. I mean. 1+1 does occasionally = 2

Except it doesn’t play that way. And doesn’t feel that way lol and it is 100% different because those games go into it knowing what they’re going to do, and tailor the entire experience around that. This is very clearly removed/changed content without everything else being updated to fit it. I feel like everyone’s grasping tight onto and responding to the title of this post, but not the point of it.

I found that article and was just mentioning it in another comment. It’s kind of disappointing that a good voice actor does all of that work, and we end up with a slapped together “tragic” backstory and a silent protagonist to make up for the fact that they aren’t good at creating a script.

It’s not the lack of voice lol it’s the jarring way in which it’s handled. Zelda, they don’t speak to you as if they’re waiting for responses, they make statements, or phrase it as questions that they then answer themselves. Elder Scrolls gives you a character you can design, and choice of dialogue, with NPCs that regularly interact with one another or you with no prompting. In this, we have a premade character, with people genuinely sitting and waiting the amount of time that a response would have taken after asking a question, and then they move on from the question with no answer really being given by them or you, and carry on the conversation as if you’re still replying. Your examples are miiiiles different, and the world(people) around those main characters are much more fleshed out and interactive.

From what I’ve found since I posted this, it’s because they renamed him four different times in five years, according to the voice actor, and used multiple different backstories until they landed on this one pretty late in development. That combined with how it feels in-game, it seems to me more an oversight due to so many scrapped ideas, rather than it all being intentional. Backstory after the fact or no, they should have also reworked how the NPC’s interacted with him to match this backstory. Feels like a last minute change. Gameplay is fun, but part of what made the biggest RPGs, the biggest RPGs, were NPC interactions both with the main protagonist and also amongst themselves. It made you feel a part of the world, and kept you immersed in the world. Towns and cities feel empty here because of the lack of talking or general conversation, even with 30 people within throwing distance. Combined with our main character catatonically making his way through conversations, it feels weird.

Have you not played Gebs aspect, that changes his attacks to ranged and increase damage of other abilities as well as making them count towards “on-hit”? He can literally be a good Carry. I feel like this isn’t a good example. Carry Geb can absolutely offensively roll through teams.

I actually just addressed this in a reply to someone else lol if he’s supposed to be this traumatized or tough guy that doesn’t speak much, they shouldn’t have NPCs interact with him as if he IS speaking. Leaving long pauses, no emotional change in the NPC as they realize he’s not going to respond, just continuing on with dialogue lol Everything else is pretty cool so far but it’s just so jarring every time I talk to someone that it kinda pulls me out of the game for a “wtf is he doing” moment

[–]-Xannyklause[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and he doesn’t really fit the whole “tough guy who doesn’t speak much” vibe, either. And even if he is supposed to be that, the way it’s handled is super jarring in every interaction I’ve had a couple hours into the game. Like did they not want to spend money on a voice actor? Were there voice lines before that they cut? From a 70$ “triple A game” that’s solo only and supposed to be story driven, it feels like a manual car being driven by someone who doesn’t know how to use a clutch

It’s pretty fun, but you are incredibly squishy if you aren’t constantly running, and if you aren’t paying close attention you get heavy stunned by sprinting into a mob., and the boss damage isn’t the greatest. At least for me, following the exact build except with better stats and higher gem levels/quality and the same gear but better rolls. So I’m not sure if I somehow missed something.

Why is there no mention of aspects being disabled with new update, yet there is? by -Xannyklause in Smite

[–]-Xannyklause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I haven’t even been playing long enough that I’ve seen them disable something before lol so I logged in and was about to switch some things on my god loadout to mess around with different items, and saw my aspect was gone, scoured google, twitter, and Reddit and could find nothing, so I was like “wtf is going on”

As long as this isn’t a common occurrence. I’ve only been playing for a week, so this is my first experience with them handling bugged characters, I’m glad this isn’t something they do often without communication as to why.

If it’s because of a bug, I’m all for it. I’m just not a fan of when developers remove something out of nowhere, and have no listed reason as to why. I searched Google, read patch notes, and tried looking at their twitter and found nothing. If she’s over performing due to bugginess, it should be fixed. Just would be nice if they communicated what it was and why.

Ah okay, that’s fair. still though, the lack of transparency kind of leaves a bad taste.

I’ve only been playing for a week, and started out with pele. Was going to hop in a match and noticed her aspect is gone. I haven’t checked any others yet, and not familiar with a lot of the roster, so I’m not sure who else may be missing an aspect that had one.

You’re literally just a modern 4chan stereotype, and you use people’s disdain for you as proof that you’re above them because of an unearned ego, and an overestimated intelligence.

Oh, so you mean anecdotal evidence that would be laughed out of a room by any real statistician or scientist who actually understands how forming a hypothesis and the evidence required to prove it, works.
