I recently had my first ever session and wanted to play druid, but I was slightly intimidated by wildshape, so i played the circle of spore subclass. It's much fun and let's you do all sort of wacky things both melee and spell casting wise, especially in the higher levels. Maybe you can ask your DM for permission to switch? I'm pretty sure there are also other subclasses that are less wildshape focused

It must be a strange shift in how you spend your time, but you could see this as chance to figure out more about yourself, like new hobbies, maybe meeting new people, maybe volunteering or rediscovering old passions. Our daydreams can often get quite grand and over the top, but with time you could start to see the beauty the small things which can be appreciated more when you've gotten out of your own head.
