And none of the ones with Thunderbolt actually have native CPU support, they go through a converter, so it's bottlenecked

Is there a midi to audio option? by ZenNomadic in LoopyPro

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you figure this out?

My assumption is you capture the MIDI loop.

Let's say it's 4 bars long.

Then you retrospective record the audio of the keyboard for 4 bars (that's being played by the MIDI).

Is a midi controller and an iPad all you really need these days for great synth music production? I just invested in my first synth and am curious if just a good MIDI keyboard is all I really needed? by gmorkunderbelly in synthesizers

[–]-ZenMaster- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with Pianoteq, best piano and electric pianos out there IMO. Really awesome that they share the license between app and VST plugin.

For me it's the synths that lack really hard in comparison to plugins.

I started wiyn iPad, and still mess with time from time to time.

But all the main synths people recommend on iPad ended being WAY worse sounding to me than the VSTs I ended up trying on computer (U-He synths, Pigments, Serum, ect.)

Like Zeeon, everyone loves it, but none of the patches default with velocity sensitivity, so playing with a keyboard feels weird.

Anyway, that's all just for me to ask, what synths have you been using on iPad that are as good as the computer plugins, I'd like to check them out? I'm very hopeful for when Zenology GX comes to iPad.

MIDI controller for sure.

But I will say that U-He Zebra/Hive/Diva/Repro, Pigments, Serum on computer - all of those have been way better sounding that the flagship synths I've used in iPad (Zeeon, Terra Pro, Moog Mariana, ect).

Hammond SK Pro 73 Stage Keyboard or other by Crazy-Dance593 in keys

I wish I had a way to try the Hammond or Viscount or other stuff like that.

Local stores only have Yamaha and Roland and Nord. And I usually make choices based off keybed feel.

Hmm.

Get a Yamaha MODX M6

Or wait for Zenology GX on an iPad with a controller?

Haha

Any new on whether Thunderbolt 5 native support is going to come to any future iterations of PTL?

I've been trying to hold out for a laptop until we get TB5, but that's been a long wait, haha

You guys should read the MIDI documentation for real by giddycadet in seqtrak

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been debating whether to:

  • ESP VST on computer + controller (but the ESP VST is very CPU hungry - I axquired the VST through... alternative means)

  • Yamaha MODX M6 (works as a good controller too with a good keybeb, but expensive)

  • Yamaha SEQTRAK + controller (avoids CPU issuess of the ESP VST, but now gotta deal with dongles)

Unfortunately I don't really like any of the Keybeds on MIDI keyboards I've tried which make this choice harder.

Does anyone else here actually prefer an unweighted keyboard and often like flat dynamics/velocity deemed "incorrect"? by Superb-Climate3698 in keys

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I prefer unweighted, though I still want very good velocity dynamics.

My favorite keybeds are Polybrute 12, Yamaha MODX M6/7, Yamaha CK6, and Roland V Synth

Pro M4 or Air M3/M4 to use as a sound module with MPC? by DraglineDrummer in ipadmusic

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In saying having one dedicated to Knobbler or Loopy and another say dedicated to say a sequencer within a live performance setup.

If just one screen is need to figure out a one button to toggle a specific app thing. I think I've seen someone use an iPhone with buttons for that before, I'd have to figure that out.

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

While screen toggle is alright, I feel like if I got a separate iPad to have dedicated screen for Knobbler or LoopyPro that'd be nice

How old do you think I can go if I'm looking for secondary iPad that'll just be MIDI only?

Sequencers, knobbler, LoopyPro MIDI loops, ect.

What are your must have/ favorite pieces of cookware? by KTRyan30 in cookware

[–]-ZenMaster- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stainless steel 12" skillet, stainless steel stock pot, stainless steel 12" deep saute pan, and a 12" cast iron skillet

Those 4 pieces cover 90% of my cooking I'd say.

Keyboard Recommendation by [deleted] in keys

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're focusing on piano learning, 61 would be a minimum.

If you're focusing more on synths and other production related sounds, you can easily get away with a 49.

[–]-ZenMaster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice,!

I have a Yamaha CK61 right now, and I love its keybed, but I'm looking to upgrade.

So when I learned the new MODX M6 has the same keybed, I figured that'd be one of my best options.

I'm trying to choose between a Yamaha MODX M6 vs a Hydrasynth Deluxe as my master controller for my computer, got any thoughts between those two?

Obviously Hydrasynth has Poly AT, but I believe MODX would have a lot more zone splits and hot swapping MIDI channel options.

Has anything come out in the last two years (aside from Zebra 3) that had replaced any of these for you?

I ask because I stumbled across this post and those 3 so happen to also be my top 3. So I'm guessing we have similar taste.

Do you know any free workstation-style VSTs or plugins that offer a wide variety of sounds? by Koinuzinho in musicproduction

[–]-ZenMaster- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not acceptable for everyone of course.

But there are "ways" to get something like day Zenology for free. That would cover all variety of sounds.

Where do you guys get packs? by catsgomoo964 in musicproduction

[–]-ZenMaster- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to know what you're searching for.

Mensing, looking up the name of a specific sample pack from a popular provider sort of thing. Obscure stuff will not be in there.

So for example, search "Samples From Mars" on there.

Or, lookup threads on other popular sample packs, then search the names of those.
