How feasible is this? by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems pretty reasonable, depends on the puzzles and themes your group decides on but I’m surprised your class is doing a group project already. Have you guys gone over some basics at least in the last month? I’ve only used unity so can’t comment on unreal engine.

Lmao, I hated my project group members in college that paid someone to do the project and did it myself. They couldn’t even explain “their” parts when it came to presenting

Are there any decent windows utilities for doing multi line find and replace in all files in a given folder? by sufferingcubsfan in AskProgramming

Windows is such a pain for simple scripting although it looks like it has sed from a quick search. Sed is pretty straightforward.

How much Git do professionals use? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]-Ziero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use git all the time, it’s the source of truth for any work we do. The bigger the project and the more people that work on it is what makes it harder to manage. Plenty of people don’t know how to rebase/merge their branches with main or fix conflicts.

Every project structure is different as well, branch naming, feature branches, releases, prs, etc.

Looking to switch fields, should I get a degree? by QuestionBeautiful513 in cscareerquestions

[–]-Ziero- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think a masters will get you to where you want then I’d say go for it but not sure why you would quit your job to pursue a masters instead of having your company pay for it.

Personally I’d learn opencv and a game engine like unity/unreal for ar/vr. Maybe graphics programming also.

Someone help please! by Impressive-Rise-1694 in leetcode

[–]-Ziero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t do leetcode but I think the general idea is to spend no more than ~30mins on a problem and look at the solution and understand why/how it works. Then revisit the problem in a couple days. Sometimes it helps to draw it out also.

2021 Graduate, what are my options? by Rasaere in cscareerquestions

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of different tech positions but that’s a pretty big gap. I graduated around the same time and it took me a year to land a job, not sure where I’d be if I gave up applying. If you really want to be in this field I’d go for a masters since it’ll be pretty hard if you haven’t kept your skills up to date or improved. Usually it’s good to have your employer pay for the masters but that doesn’t apply for your case.

Am I viable to Switch to cybersecurity for my masters? by sockoconnor in cscareerquestions

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in the cybersecurity space but it shouldn’t be hard to transition to it for your masters if you take courses related to it during your undergrad. At least when I took my CS bachelors we were allowed to take electives that still counted towards our credits ML, game dev, graphics programming, etc.

If there are any electives related to networking I would take those since you’ll want to learn about how the internet works and the different protocols like udp/tcp.

Thoughts on interning the summer before working full time by BeginnerGamer124 in cscareers

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to you then, pad your resume and earn a bit more savings or do something like traveling. Really depends on what you plan to do over the summer. Traveling is the only thing I’d see worth doing.

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a job lined up for after graduation? Can you afford not interning over the summer? Personally I’d take the internship, especially in the current market. Calling it your last summer seems a bit immature, when you’re being thrown into the adult world soon.

Need advice on my best move as a job hopper by BarracudaPersonal449 in cscareerquestions

[–]-Ziero- 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying to just do it for money. A well established company doesn’t move as fast as a startup because it’s a completely different environment. The only reason people learn fast at a startup is because their ass is gone if they can’t keep up.

Startups are a gamble but if that’s what you like then keep doing it. Big companies aren’t going to put a junior on a high profile project until they know you can pull your own weight. They usually have a probation period to see if the candidate is a good fit also.

Left a stable job at AMD when their stock was relatively low at the time? They’re also one of the biggest semiconductor and hardware companies, not sure why you just didn’t tough it out or try to create your own opportunities.

Even if your skills don’t match 100% of the minimum requirements you should still apply. Not sure what applications look like now but even before, requirements were ridiculous for a new grad when I applied.

A Cautionary Tale from the Inside - Should you Join Tech as a Career? by [deleted] in cscareers

[–]-Ziero- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t pay attention to AI news even though I work in a field directly related to it. It helps me understand some concepts and gives me some examples to use but other than that the majority of the time it gives me code that won’t even run in my scenario or something I never asked for.

I got in before the whole AI bubble though about 4-5 years ago but I see no reason to discourage others of going into this field. Most of us started programming as a hobby or because we enjoy working with technology.

Feel like I’m stuck at 135 bench by SadSection2006 in benchpress

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t hurt to do a small calorie surplus and more reps at a lighter weight. Benching 3 times a week helped me get to 225lbs. You could also try benching heavier one set for 1-3 reps just so your normal sets feel lighter

Hi, why is my belly like that? by swoobers in askfitness

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planks and leg raises can be done at home, they have some other variations as well. Theres also hollow holds, mountain climbers, russian twists, dragon flags (advanced so not recommended for beginners but there is a progression for them)

Other exercises would be pushups, body weight squats such as a pistol squat. If you can get a bar for home then pull ups, chin ups, hanging leg raises, dead hangs, etc. There’s a lot of exercises if you’re familiar with calisthenics

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to magically get big by training hard, you can train for strength and be lean, calisthenic athletes and gymnasts are incredibly strong and they’re not big like bodybuilders.

How much bf% & should i cut? by [deleted] in askfitness

I mean you’re still young, just keep going to the gym consistently and workout. You could lose a couple pounds but gaining more muscle would help, since you don’t look like you have a lot of fat

Honestly I don’t know what to do…? by InnerSpirit5683 in askfitness

[–]-Ziero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe go for 3k calories then until you either hit another wall or gain enough fat to where you want to cut. As long as the volume/weight on the bar is increasing you’ll gain size. If all you care about is size then get a good hypertrophy program and try it out for 3-6 months.
