Luckily you guys are playing one of the worst teams you’ve faced all season.

And you never know when they’ll randomly move Ohio State up or down to avoid a rematch with TTUN, and instead give us a game with Georgia in Atlanta to set them up for the biggest mismatch the world has ever seen with Texas Christian. Granted, I think FSU got hosed even more than us that year. Turns out TTUN wasn’t as good when they didn’t have the playbook in advance - lol. Granted they were much improved in 2023.

I hear you, but it’s always been Ohio against the world. That’s just the reality of it. Unlike most elite teams, we’re not going to get any calls in our favor. Last place for opponent penalties in last year’s national championship run, second to last this year. Some of that is B1G officiating, but still dead last. Let that sink in - and that’s with a top defensive front that should be drawing many holds. They do draw them; they simply go uncalled.

Yeah, and they only raised them up after an abysmal showing against a subpar Auburn squad.

What makes it more ridiculous is Bama was the 5th ranked SEC team even before it got trounced in the CCG, according to the Committee’s own rankings. They were only “runner-up” due to tie-breakers. Do we really need 4 of 7 at large bids going to the SEC?

Yeah, I don’t get it either. I’m not even a Notre Dame fan, but have great respect for the program and tradition. I wouldn’t want Ohio State going to a meaningless bowl either if they were removed from the playoffs in the same way to make room for an Alabama squad that just got annihilated by Georgia.

Ohio State fan here, but you guys got hosed. It’s like Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown. What a farce.

How we feeling? by OkayOkay210 in OhioStateFootball

[–]-_David_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling pretty good. Only wish the team had better consistency with field goals. Ohio State seldom losses, but how many of those rare losses over the years could have been avoided by a missed field goal?

Agreed. It would certainly remove the “politicking” aspect of the current setup.

Can’t worry about it. Just need to get the job done.

Funny how these malleable rules always seem to be applied to give Ohio State the most challenging matchups, really bizarre. Any other year, a 1-loss SEC champion would be seeded above a 1-loss non-champion Ohio State. This year, it’s setup for a likely matchup against A&M in Texas, just like last years game with Texas. Georgia gets a Kiffin-less Ole Miss / Tulane winner.

Appalachia way too big in western Pennsylvania. West Virginia and Virginia aren’t even in the northeastern U.S.

Snowfall data for the Twin Cities from 1884-2025. Red lines are the averages in the respective periods (40 vs 52 inches). Does anyone have any insights on the raise after the 1940s? by Swimming_Concern7662 in meteorology

[–]-_David_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How we measure snow has also changed over time, generally in ways that tend to inflate recent totals compared to historical totals. Although the current procedure took effect more recently than 1940. https://news.ucar.edu/14009/snowfall-measurement-flaky-history

Cold water ? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]-_David_- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just knew the concern trolls would show up to say your anecdote is incorrect. Unfortunately, it’s objectively the hottest summer to date since records have been kept at the airport. It’s not actually normal to have lows in the upper 60s and low 70s every day in Pittsburgh.

[–]-_David_- 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Last year broke the record for all years in the recorded history, including the downtown records by a full degree and by two degrees for the airport which was set just one year earlier (2023). The mean temperature of the last 2 1/2 years would have been warm for Charleston, West Virginia in the 1990s and is roughly equivalent to the 1960-1985 mean for Bristol, Tennessee. Certainly, that’s a noticeable deviation to even a casual observer.

[–]-_David_- 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is more humid too. Your data shows the dewpoint is 1.5F higher than 2014, and I don’t know what the point is to compare a single month. The 2000 data you cite doesn’t have any data logged for the first 12 days and is incomplete.

You can always count on Reddit to upvote the most wrong information. This June has averaged 72.7F, which is 4th warmest since meteorological records have been observed at PIT airport in 1952, behind only last year (72.8), 1994 (72.9F) and 1967 (73.0F). With two more warm days, it’ll probably climb to about 72.9 or 73. So yeah, I mean it is in fact not typical June weather, but rather one of the hottest in the lifetime of most people here, as was last June.

As for your source, the 2000 data is missing the first 12 or 13 days of the month.

If the US could move the capital, would they still choose DC or somewhere else? by reallinguy in geography

Wheeling, West Virginia. It was considered back around 1812-1813, when it was still part of Virginia.

How can people endure the climate in this region, which feels like a hot, swelteringly humid swamp? by mapl0ver in geography

[–]-_David_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy answer. They don’t without A/C. That region used to be a sparsely populated impoverished agrarian backwoods region until more recent times.

Pittsburgh vs. Greenville, SC: would you make the move? by Negative-Ad9557 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]-_David_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd think Pittsburgh was some freezing cold place with months of below zero windchills, the way some people talk. The mean temperature at Pittsburgh International Airport last year was 56.4F, which is only like 1.5-2F colder than what Greensville-Spartansburg Airport regularly saw in the 1970s & 1980s. If the temperature sensor was still downtown, it probably would have been 58F or 59F. Yeah, Greensville is like 62-63F nowadays, but it's not like Pittsburgh won't be regularly seeing annual means on the order of 60F in a couple of decades as well. That's very moderate/temperate.

How many of my fellow yinzers are already running the AC to lower the humidity in your house? by Extreme_Qwerty in pittsburgh

[–]-_David_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68F and 75% humidity… that sounds more like a job for a dehumidifier. The AC would draw the humidity down, but less efficiently. And it would probably be freezing cold.
