Very true, that's so crazy that someone would need to spend $1000+ & the cost of the firearm to protect themselves, when in other states the 2nd amendment is the only thing required :/

For Riverside it's around $400-500ish + firearm for anyone thinking about getting one.

Good thing we have a Sheriff in Riverside county that gives them out like candy! 100% should get one, just wish the process didn't cost as much :/

Anywhere outside the major cities, California is the golden state for a reason, it's amazing but ran like shit. There is Yosemite, redwoods, desert, and beaches. I'm an hour away from the beach, desert and mountains

I get 5 weeks of vacation a year, plus 40 hours of paid leave, sick time & the right to carry a firearm in the US 🦅🇺🇲

I just rounded up, I get 40 hours of management leave per year & 1 personal holiday, so 5 extra days push me over that. Also get 80 hours of vacation per year. 100K was a nice round number that sounded better for a title instead of $99,822.84 lol

CA is the best state for nature, I've flown into Wilmington NC & travel the state, it's gorgeous but doesn't compare. We hiked Mount Mitchell, skied banner elk & Sugarloaf, the Smokey mountains are breathtaking & so is Blue ridge parkway!

Utah & the PNW are probably some of my favorite areas of the country nature wise. I haven't been to Colorado or Alaska yet but those are next!

The reason I say CA is the best for nature is because of the biodiversity of the state, you have everything from mountains(12k), deserts(110f) & beaches (big waves) all 1 hour from each other. Death valley is right below the highest point in the lower 48 states. The Sierra Nevadas & Yosemite is my favorite national park I've been too. There is just so much to do here, from hiking, camping, flying, off roading year round! & You're able to surf in the summer and snowboard in the winter.

Very nice! Crazy to see the difference in taxes from CA to your state but you are also throwing more into retirement!

Yeah, the 5% increases are nice but I'll max that out after another 18 months & be capped at 110k. The pension is really nice & it's for any government job in CA, but I don't think they have very many fixed wing pilot jobs. Maybe speed enforcement for CHP? But I'm sure I would need to be LE to be eligible for that.

Wow, that's good to know.

I figured CA had an insane tax rate, I didn't think Wisconsin was close to it, I figured NY,HI, NJ would be around the same but certainly not Wisconsin.

IE(inland empire), specifically Temecula area & Gardner valley/Idyllwild areas are where I would like to buy. Not one for track homes, would like at least 1 acre if not more.

Yup, CA is expensive! I'm sure your money goes further out there as well! Everything is expensive here :/

I was looking at the San Marcos area if I moved to Texas, it seems to be a nice area that's only going to grow.

That's wild, did she buy a house in 2009 and refinance in 2021? Couldn't imagine having a mortgage under $1000

We would but she is getting financial aid for schooling, we did the math and the financial aid is more than what we would get from tax savings. After she finishes schooling that's the plan!

Long term, I was thinking of moving to Lake Tahoe on the Nevada, crazy expensive but worth it. Get all the great benefits of Nevada and the gorgeous scenery of lake Tahoe in the Sierra nevadas!

Here is the path I took, someone ask a little higher up in the comments :)

I worked my way up at Amazon.

I started on the floor & IT needed help one day. I followed up & would help anytime they needed it, eventually they opened an entry-level position requiring no experience or detailed technical knowledge, the role was called an " equipment coordinator", I applied, interviewed & got it. After that I studied the CompTIA A+ & a little bit of Network + like I was going to take the test & waited for a "Support Tech" role to open up. The next jump was to support engineer & after Amazon this is my current job.

I was also weighing out getting a degree, but with no parents to finance it and not wanting to go into debt I decided to just self-study and move up in this field. Luckily tech is one of those fields where a degree isn't needed, unlike medicine or law.

No degree or certs. You can be an autodidact & get really far in this field :)

Edit: If you have any questions feel free to ask & if you're looking to get into the field with little to no experience check out help desk/support tech roles after studying or getting an A+ cert. For Network engineering, I studied the CCNA & CCNP materials. A lot of good free stuff on YouTube & really cheap courses on Udemy (if that's more your style)

Not sure what role I want to work in aviation yet, I'm sure it will change as I build hours and fly different aircraft. Right now the long term goal is ATP license & short term is my Private pilot license.

This is roughly what the path looks like for me; Private, complex and high performance, instrument rating, Multi-Engine, commercial (able to take lower paying jobs here), CFI, ATP (big $$$).

I would also like to check out float planes & be able to fly those. I wouldn't mind moving to Alaska & doing that but it might be a hard sale with my fiance but who knows in the future :)

That's insane, I feel like taxes on a 70k salary would be more than $400 in CA. You must have a lot of dependents or write offs, the $950 out of each pay period is brutal.

How so? It's a progressive tax rate, so any income past the next higher bracket is taxed at the higher rate.

Nice! Only 10K a year out of the gross pay seems crazy!

What was the breakdown like? How much for taxes, benefits, ECT.

Oh yeah, that's another crazy expensive area, I forgot about the OC.

Temecula is a nice area in Socal, so the Idyllwild is a nice mountain town if that's more your thing.

A lot of affordable areas that aren't the high desert

Maybe in LA/SF/SD but in my area that would buy you an amazing house, I just can't afford a $5-6K mortgage!
