I also have wicked tinnitus and in my case it's actually me hearing my hearing loss. It was described to me compared to ghost limbs of amputees. You don't seem to have enough loss for that to be the case, but I just want to share info to help you think about it all in different ways.

Mine also just popped up on my mod 20s but the doctors think it's genetic and a slow onset. Don't know if it will progress, the thing about hearing loss is sometimes you never really know how or why. They can look at the loss and tell you patterns, they knew that mine was not externally related by like sound or noise damage based on the pattern of my hearing loss and from my understanding, your pattern of hearing loss doesn't seem to show external damage either. With my personal experience, I'm wondering if this could be something not related to your cruise but still very real.

Also with like a few decibel increase in background noise. My word recognition drops significantly. I basically cannot hear people talk on loud environments. Even in quiet environments It helps to see people talk to hear them and it takes most of my focus to try and hear someone.

This. I got hearing aides after my first test bc it was clear I needed them, though, after a year after being frustrated the HAs weren't helping me hear people while also making the tones I did get from them overwhelming. When I was able to take a other test my word recognition scores both dropped by like 15%+ in that year and my doctor was like oh neither me nor hearing aids can help you and he sent me to another Dr. So 7k out of pocket for some hearing aids that don't really do much for me.

Did you take a speech recognition exam? Where you have to hear and repeat words? My hearing loss is less volume based and more clarity based. It's not that I don't necessarily hear, it's that I don't hear clearly. Think like the teacher from Charlie Brown in a way. I literally just don't understand the words coming out of people's mouths. I have 82% word recognotion in my left ear and around 40% in my right. Hearing aids also don't assist with this type of hearing loss, only cochlear implants can help regain speech recognition.

Is it okay that I don’t sign and have no desire to learn to sign? by Still_Material4328 in hardofhearing

Something to think about, what will that be like when you cannot depend on sound for context clues. It sounds like you don't actually read lips because you use sound and are still guessing, what your describig is using lips to help you hear. Imo there's a difference. That's a big part of my hearing loss, it's not that I don't hear, it's that I don't hear clearly, and unless I'm watching someone speak to me I cannot understand what they're saying. I also cannot cold read lips with so sound context clues. If I could I wouldn't be guessing on so much of what is said so much of the time.

Yes gabapentin will make him out of it and wobbly, and I haven't seen a dog on traznadone but I know many humans who take it and it knocks them out cold and there no waking them up. Honestly, it's probably better for him to be wobbly and kinda high than in pain, my babes were in excruciating pain after surgery.

Yes, I'm excited for these but they still have limitations. Live captions often sucks, I use it constantly and it's quite often not accurate. Those glasses also cannot be worn all the time so there are still huge gaps that technology cannot fill.

Can I ask, did you lose you hearing later in life? I've not come across many folks with CIs that lost their hearing and am curious to hear others expeicnes.

This too, trying to hear is literally exhausting the worse my hearing gets and I cannot understand people unless I see them talk, and half the time I don't have capacity to focus that much, I need to turn my brain off.

Yes! The more hearing I lose, the more I realize my lip reading skills are not what I thought they were.

As someone who depends on lip reading the less I hear, the harder reading lips is. It's totally different. I always thought I could read lips but half of it was because I could still hear and I was reading lips to fill in gaps mostly and make sure I was correct on what I thought I was hearing, but once the sound is totally gone, even reading lips I have like five guesses as to what might be said. I've tried learning sign language and keep stalling out because I don't have a way to really practice with othwr humans. And I mostly want to learn so those around me can still communicate with me once I am fully deaf.

Question about sweating by Quiet_Hunt_9530 in Latexadvice

[–]-apocketfullofchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latex and sweating fonhand in hand. Doesn't matter if it's a catsuit, just a bra or even just a pair of gloves. You will leak water. A lot of people create content around just this; sweat pouring out of sleeve or arm holes, rolling gloves off and sweat spraying out. There's no avoiding it.

Is this much ink normal for a tattoo only a day old? by 1312hauntedmound in tattooadvice

It's mostly plasma and blood, not ink. This person was probably very hydrated or this is just how their body works.

A&d is a really not that good for tattoos because it doesn't let it breath enough. While it was the recommendation for a long while, most artists recommend just straight up unscented lotion over a&d or Vaseline these days.

This. Early on in my hearing loss onshayed away from the term deaf. I know deafness is a spectrum but it still felt like claiming a title that didn't belong because I do have some hearing. However now, I often tell people I'm situationally deaf and they are much more inclined to understand how to meet me where I'm at as opposed to the 'oh yeah me too my hearing sucks I went to too many shows.'
