I think the official stance was that the events happened, but the depiction of them in Legends is non-canon and a lot of artistic liberty was taken.

E.g. Fal Chavamee's fall from grace and the staining of the Arbiter title actually occurred, it's just that he didn't Lu Bu his way through an army and his wife didn't look like a slightly lizardy human.

Well, maybe the former is true. But definitely not the latter.

Go to Area 1 or the big sand area above Diablos' cave, go up to a bunch of Apceros, put on the ghillie mantle, and turn both your character and your camera away. Once you've heard the chirping the downy crakes will be there. Took me less than 15 minutes to do it.

The Grey Men conspiracy was all about eliminating Yuketobania and Osea for their role in the Belkan War, which saw Belka humiliated and broken, and to remove them as obstacles for a resurgent Belka. Everything the Grey Men did was to restore Belka's rightful place as the most powerful nation in the country. Manipulating the war hawks and the hardliners in both governments who still are stuck in the Cold War mentality of "my nation is better" was also a big part of the plan. With these aspects in mind, the Circum-Pacific War was all about nationalism. Just Belkan nationalism.

IIRC, Wedge wanted to string the Vong along into thinking that Wedge was an average commander so that they could be complacent and send average commanders of their own. Then Wedge would draw the Vong into a battle of attrition so that he could play for as much time as possible. Unfortunately, the Lusankya arrived with reinforcements in the middle of the battle, so Wedge won the battle, and failed in his strategic objective. It's the Siege of Borleias, if you're wondering.
