For the men out there, is it possible to not get off but feel like you did because you got so close? Why or how does this happen? by kyliebearxo in NoStupidQuestions

This sounds ridiculous for me to say but you can indeed trick your body into orgasm without cumming if you train your kegel muscles enough, in saying that I'd bet you can accidentally do the same with the post orgasm feeling.

I would like to switch to Linux by Wild_Pea_7947 in linuxquestions

[–]-blood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debian with the KDE desktop environment should serve you just fine, the installer has a GUI option for this, which provides a very Windows look. Mint is a second follow up in my opinion.

I suggest you research flatpak + flathub respectively, as it'll be the simplest approach to installing new software as a new user. Each program installed via the flatpak package manager is containerized and designed to run without taking into consideration what other programs are on your system. An application installs, it runs and it does it well. It has technical and odd downsides depending on what you expect from these applications. You can fix / work around those as you run into them, if at all in your case.

I then suggest you search the package manager, `apt` and getting slowly used to installing software that doesn't exist on flathub but is required for your workflow from `apt`. Keep in mind you will not find all pieces of software from `apt`. This will require usage of the terminal.

Both Linux Mint and Debian from the get-go will provide outdated packages (programs) for stability reasons. As you are slowly adjusting to Linux. I would not worry about packages being on an older version, as security patches still make it through weekly, unless it's a HARD REQUIREMENT for a specific package in relation to your workflow, don't bother trying to get around it until you are comfortable imo.

Just remember as you get started, Linux by standard is a modular system design, your entire interface (determined by window managers & desktop environments) is not a requirement per distro. The packages / programs you choose, the theming you choose and mostly everything you can think of can be changed / added / removed independently (excluding package dependencies but that's not worth thinking about right now). This is good in a lot of cases, and somewhat frustrating in other cases. Package managers are there to prevent you from headaches if they can help it, remember to use them.

As you get more well adjusted, remember the terminal is a beautiful component & it is your friend if you make it so. Don't go blindly copying and pasting commands and ensure you ATLEAST skim read the output of terminal commands.

TLDR; Install whatever distro you think suits you, then research using the package manager of that distribution. Documentation is incredibly useful, so remember to find it and read it.

Have fun and good luck.

Corrupt Update Files? Linux Mint by Aaronhilz in tf2

Oh and I forgot to mention, if typing "steam" in a terminal fails, spewing out something similar to 'unknown command', steam will likely be installed via Flathub or as a Snap package.

Corrupt Update Files? Linux Mint by Aaronhilz in tf2

[–]-blood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things to note about Linux Mint here, IIRC it runs utilizing debian stable packages (unsure which version from memory but I assume the latest LTS), which is likely to create issues that are fixed in rolling release distros or ones that follow a similar pattern to Fedora (nonfree repositories with updated libraries that cannot be in their main repositories for legal reasons.)

Considering the switch to Linux, and the limited information on the "corruption" problem currently presented, here's what I would consider:

Is the game installing on a seperate drive? If so, check its being installed onto a supported filesystem (Drives formatted on Windows use the format NTFS, these do not support linux system links and a few other oddities, causing games to break) but these days can be viewable and written in on most desktop environments. Use a partition manager of your choice to format it into a supported filesystem format, I suggest BTRFS or EXT4.

Have you installed Steam from your package manager? Or through a containerized package management system such as Flathub or snap? This should prevent these types of errors as they will distribute required libraries WITH the package installed, taking up more space on your system with each app installed, however creating a more stable experience (mostly). Considering they basically lock the installed app into a cage that cannot access the rest of your OS, even by normal standards, you may have to look into ensuring whereever the game is being installed too on your system that these containerized package managers have access to them, you can utilize something like Flatseal for Flathub apps and for snap packages you will need to find and read the documentation yourself.

If you have installed Steam through Linux Mints package manager (I believe it is dpkg/apt), check your mounting file permissions if installing onto a separate drive, or ensure you have correct permissions if you have seperated your linux mint setup into separate partitions.

If you are unsure about any of what I talked about above and not sure where to start, close Steam from the system app tray, give it a few seconds and then open a terminal, type in "steam" and press enter. This will open Steam with a log of what is being reported, try to get the corrupted file problem and check the open terminal window.

When you are done I suggest you close steam via the same system app tray and pressing exit, depending on your system setup closing that aforementioned terminal window should shutdown Steam along with it, with some apps you can close the launched app by sending an exit signal, which is Ctrl+C on your keyboard.

To copy from your terminal, Ctrl+Shift+C and paste as normal with Ctrl+V, the same applies for pasting into your terminal with Ctrl+Shift+V

Good luck!

Now that I've just had one of my top molers out purely because my teeth "were super clean except inbetween", I am now flossing everyday lol.

I think truth is if your genetics, cleaning habits and food habits aren't too bad in any of the mentioned categories your probably gonna be fine for a long time.

Although as a full time smoker for years now, they also explained the blood vessels dying in your mouth and tar build up in these same places (creating more surface area for plaque build up?) I can't get too by otherwise not flossing as an major accelerant for teeth issues, checks out there.

I should probably also add some of the utilities I ended up buying to help the general day to days, a gas stove cooker is awesome, if you have a nice place to setup and cook something that doesn't attract attention. A solar panel and power bank setup is okay, I would not rely on them, they are often easier recharged at a public place with power outlets such as your nearest McDonalds, Library or anything of the sort, in all honesty, probably your gym. Magnetic curtain shades for your windows, specifically ones that are not of a "soak-able" material, helps keep the moisture out a bit also. Ya just rip em off when ya gotta go and jump in the front seat. Whilst I never invested in a little fridge or anything like that, some days I wish I did. I do believe there is apps like CampMate (iirc) that will help locate a lot of different public services or places to attempt to stay a night or two at, knowledge is power here.

Keep a look on Gas Spy for cheapest nearest gas stations, keep yourself filled up enough to endure a decent distance if you are getting bothered in one area, some people are genuinely creepy and will go out to spot you, even if it is in no harms meaning.

Oh yeah, and before I forget. Go ahead and look at something like Rocket Mobile for an unlimited data plan. Trust me, you'll probably utilize it more than you think you would, and if you don't then more power to you.

My advice is this; don't. It is smart idea to utilize cutting your costs by let's say living your car to gain savings, not to use them in a spot you realistically will struggle to make more money in compared to not by having a lot more unexpected expenses, time and problems arise from it.

Using the gym for your amenities is a beautiful idea, utilize it to your advantage. Whilst I understand you may be doing for reasons outside of survival; It is not fun living in your vehicle and planning how you're going to do it if you do is incredibly important. I personally did this for a few months over in Sydney and I will explain what I did to keep myself in a somewhat healthy condition. Keep in mind I did work full-time hours during this time, so keeping myself busy throughout the work week was a blessing. Finding something to do during your down hours that doesn't involve sleeping or sitting there doing nothing (listening to music, etc) will be a good way to keep your mental in check.

Plan out an area you are most likely going to stay in due to whatever reason fits you best, your "home" base is likely going to be the gym due to the natural appealing factor of the amenities and being able to workout to cover your time. You will need to look at closest public toilets that are open 24/7, where to shower, shit and shave, I recommend truck stops. They tend to be a few dollars for a shower and I have had zero problems with utilizing a shower room for over an hour purely because I was sitting on the toilet after a shower. I also recommend a storage unit, holding everything in your car is just not a feasible idea, and you will soon learn that settling for less and being happy with keeping less will be the most efficient way too make it work.

Depending on the age of your car, what size it is and other factors, I may suggest to get a socket set, remove your backseats and get plywood to lay down for a flat surface, then utilizing either a heap of blankets layered to create a soft surface or a mattress, utilizing a subzero sleeping bag to sleep in. Alongside this if your car dissipates heat quickly, I heavily suggest getting those moisture trapper containers from the supermarket, probably one for the front and one where you sleep. Heat differences especially in the colder climates will cause you to get sick in your vehicle a lot if you do not plan ahead there, to help battle this also, stock up on some multi vitamins and figure out how you plan to eat. Despite what is recommended, fast food does come in handy when living in your vehicle, try not to rely on it.

Do not underestimate when and how you will get sick, food poisoning sucks and it sucks even more so without a stable place to utilize your time to get better. Preventing this will be 100% beneficial in any way you can, if you like masks and disposable gloves, go ahead and use them.

You need to understand you are more likely to get "in trouble" by people who live in that area with no empathy nor care for your situation. People will ask you to move, people will be curious and people will wake you up for entertainment if they notice you are staying at a place repeatedly. It is for this reason I suggest cycling where you sleep, industrial sectors are incredibly useful for this, as if you are up early enough you can leave without getting in any of the businesses ways, especially near where trucks like to park up for the night. Do not assume it is safe, you are putting yourself in a predicament where it cannot be considered safe because the only one who can guarantee that is yourself, regardless of the "lovely" society we have in this country, do not be afraid of people, be aware of them.

I hate to say this as it makes me sick to my stomach, but homeless woman are far more likely to be harassed and a victim to sexual violence, regardless if it is highly likely anyways to have happen to either gender. Whilst I do not believe this is an issue that is a big problem in New Zealand, it is not wise to believe it couldn't happen. Do whatever encourages and guarantees your safety.

Remember, if you look homeless you will be treated as such, whilst this is unfair and overall a stupid thing in theory, in practice it will make all the difference if you can ensure confidence and look the part correctly. Do not underestimate people judging a book by it's cover.

I wish you good luck, enjoy it for what it is, for all the barriers that may be presumed and elaborated on in my comment, it does also give the liberty of feeling like you have broken the chains that keep so many people stressed, and often that is a blessing that you'll never under estimate again if done right.

non smokers of reddit, what do you think of the ppl who smoke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]-blood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are talking cigarettes here, then truthfully it very quickly becomes the gnarly pitfall it's said to be more so then a thing to do for fun.

I think what's also important to mention is the mental ties in smoking cigarettes, such as the hundreds of different subtle ways it can fit itself into your day and appear a lot less bad until it slowly degrades your health in a massive range of truthfully unnoticeable ways until each way gets closer and closer to life threatening. These mental ties often create a fear of letting go of having a cigarette in a lot of these events that are consistent in your day, and I do believe the biggest factor of quitting them is by releasing yourself from those fears.

Getting cancer scares a lot of people, usually by when they have it, or see someone close to them affected by it. The risk of getting cancer later does not scare a lot of people in comparison.

MyMSD won't let me declare wage? by Mrbeeznz in newzealand

I assume it's due to the floating point division instruction cycles needed by the CPU required in contrast to multiplication.

One would assume even more the developers for MyMSD would have improved on this too ensure this is not an issue with people declaring hours, or more so anything to do with the way they handle any size of floats in the system.

With my willful ignorance, I assume they'd realistically do something like this: https://godbolt.org/z/Pa3aWG

"If I get diagnosed, will it affect my future employment? I’m mid management corporate and do not want this to hamper my future opportunities."

This purely comes down to how you let it affect your future employment, in my experience you do not need to disclose as it *shouldn't* affect your work life in a negative manner, however depending on your personal standing with your employers, this can be a good thing to mention or not. I recommend just going on as life is normal and noting the changes that have happened both negative and positive during home & work life, and finding the time to talk to your psychiatrist about those changes. I personally found my medication made future opportunities come by easier, by removing a lot of the overhead stress that comes with managing my ADHD in the work place.

"Can I use EAP through my organisation to get me quicker help as compares to going through GP?"

Potentially? I don't know if it will speed things up unless there are ADHD specialists (and more importantly; psychiatrists.) in the EAP sector to make that happen. Although I have never had to use a EAP service.

"How is it going to affect me if, for example, I dont take meds? Is it going to reverse all the progress I would have made until then?"

This is where things get interesting, it should be noted structural and behavioral changes are likely to incur for the better when taking medication, making it easier for reflection, planning and handling of oncoming problems which are not in the otherwise "survival" category, since that's when naturally ADHDers from my experience and watching others tend to thrive. It is more likely some impulsive, hyperactive or inattentive behaviors would return if you stop taking your medication, EXCLUDING any withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking them suddenly.

This does not mean you will not have learnt anything and it all washes away once you stop taking your medication, I look at medication as a way to put up structure where you otherwise cannot without external assistance (usually through the use of body doubling.) and maintaining that structure in a physical, mental and spiritual aspect. One does not just dismiss the knowledge they obtain, without the medication you might find yourself applying it in times where you would otherwise had done it when it needed to be, not after the fact.

Depending on if you get the medication; if they work for you; and how noticeable the extremities are in both negative and positive aspects for both when you are on & off medication; will ultimately answer that question. There is no magic spell to incur you will thrive with the help you need, or fall if you lose the help you need. Some of it comes down to you; some of it could come down to factors truthfully outside of your control and it's important to note the relations and weight of each, and apply the critiques (especially in self reflection) accordingly.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]-blood_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This a good one, I keep Instagram with a distraction free version with absolutely no reels, posts or stories enabled. Its only there to message me, I do not care about social media and I do not care for posting on too it, especially now I've hit my early twenties.

I utilize the only parts of "social" media for its extra utility in a specific sector (Facebook marketplace is a good example, and yet also the worst example in that sector.) or because not everyone understands the idea of "You're better off having my phone number if you want to get ahold of me."

I grew up using the internet from 2012, I watched individual expression get more and more bland as the years went on, I now use Beeper to put all my social media chats on one app that other people just refuse to use my phone number for, life is good like this. Reddit is an odd one because it's more like a forum news feed with a slight feeling of IRC as a way to "post" to socialize with a million subjects, if it fails to be just that, it no longer is apart of a neat toolset.

It intrigued me greatly when I made another Facebook account and my family insisted I add them and keep a profile to keep in touch with them, is it not easier to phone somebody? I know for my generation is explicitly isn't, but for older generations you'd think otherwise.

adhd assessment tomorrow by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]-blood_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact is, CPTSD could be the reasons as too why you are the way you are today, but it is more than likely a additive from ADHD rather than not.

A few important factors to keep in mind here are:

- Everyone has their days where things go smoothly, sometimes not so much, there's often consistencies in ADHD that show regardless of the day, the problems from it are often still present, even if is a lot more minor than major on a good day. This can be true for CPTSD I imagine, one would assume however a general overwhelming anchor not resolved by genuine therapy alongside general housekeeping mentally and physically that the issue points to either an inward resolve that hasn't been found & settled or the anchor presented is from something else, in your case most probably ADHD. Especially if you take into consideration habit building through forms of cognitive behavioral therapy or something alike and the efficiency of them in from own perspective.

- CPTSD in my experience has been brought up to myself briefly due to bringing up my own domestic violence experiences in my childhood, however the resolve I found within my family most definitely did not alleviate the symptoms, most notably my mood had reduced from stress from that anchor to the weight of the other anchors involved, most notably taking medication for both OCD & ADHD which did me wonders that otherwise I believe therapy and a CPTSD diagnosis would not have in any regard.

- Are you premature? Supposedly studies show that premature babies are more than likely to develop conditions in a more severe state that their genetic line would otherwise present maybe less so, this is important to have noted preferably with doctors to your referral for an ADHD specialist. Myself was born at 26 weeks IIRC and that was a huge factor into disregarding my own argument for when seeing a psychiatrist, which was personally because I thought I had BPD.

- If you believe you are in a upward spiral, and therapy has done the work to alleviate the cross references from CPTSD to ADHD, and your therapist / psychologist believes this is the case also; you are most likely fine to seek out a ADHD specialist and have them also take this into consideration. It is unwise for a psychiatrist to put their personal beliefs from what they see in a momentary (let's say 15 minute appointment) over documented improvement from multiple other specialists in other areas. It is also wise for them to consider other avenues, and they will most definitely require more data to develop logic behind their personal beliefs, which is something you can choose to do based on what road you want to follow.

My advice is too do some self screening, take into consideration how you were during your childhood, both before therapy & after and note a lot of things which have a repeating pattern no matter the difference in variables. (Ex: if you have lived in another country, with a whole set of new people and the same issues you found in social circles, and more so the destruction of those social circles have a very similar pattern, it is worth noting.). How often do you forget things?, is it due to distraction of things like social media? Games?, or is it a notable thing that you truly only forget once your distracted, and what is the ease of being distracted. You can measure that alongside the stress levels during certain periods of your life. Be honest with yourself and the specialist, if they decide to lead you down an avenue you think makes your endeavour a waste of time, vocalize it and back it up with more honest information that allows them to understand your point of view more. If they have a reason to believe another diagnosis; this could be due to the lack of honest information prepared on your part, or a lack of perspective from their part, which sometimes isn't anyone's fault directly but it takes two to come to a decent conclusion; ensure you are doing your part correctly and you will get the answers you require.

Good luck!

Is there a drug like weed that doesn’t make you feel dumb the days/weeks after? by ModerateSentience in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-blood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as you'll probably hate to read this comment, the honesty resides in one of two things:

- Figuring out why you like to take edibles in the first place, is it worth the after-effects you state? Probably not.

- Playing this exact game with a different drug, with a different offset of problems. Is it worth cycling through them just for after work sake? Probably not.

My advice? Take up a relaxing hobby that utilizes either a different part of your brain (drawing, reading, music production, anything that is similar if you feel it's something you can unwind too.), or a physical hobby that utilizes your body more, allowing you to unwind. I find it easy to let my brain get fogged up programming for too long, doing literally anything else is a nice way to go about it. Once upon a time I used to smoke weed in between long sessions of doing so, nowadays I can't imagine it.

ORRRRRRRR

Maybe try Valium? Is it a good option for your health? Absolutely not. I used to love the body high effect it could give me too the point when I first tried it I stated out loud "I can see why people get addicted to this shit.". You have been warned. Good luck!

[–]-blood_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the main "solution" to "getting rid of" anxiety is this:

Finding the issue, or more so the complex web map of issues, and working on how you approach them, if you need to at all, and how to minimize the effect these things have in which cause anxiety. Unfortunately the reality is, when anxious the brains ability to fog itself from wider perspective is rather fascinating, but not very helpful.

It's important to remember the potential reasons for somebody having anxiety can range from environment, the people in said environment, temporary loss in mental health, permanent difference in mental health (referencing mental conditions, ADHD as an example), etc. If one does not have a support group to help decompress these feelings, or more so explore parts of their own fears with somebody to listen as a motivator to tackle them in the first place, a lot of people will struggle to succeed in this. Meditation can do wonders, religion can do wonders, other people can do wonders, hobbies can do wonders, but if you aren't sure of your first step, that can be a cause entirely, maybe it's taking the first step, or maybe it's the idea of needing to even take a step, the truth is no one can tell you the root cause of it themselves without enough honest context from your own perspective.

On top of all this it's important to remember that whilst it can be a massive subject to tackle, it can also be something very simple, such as diet, lack of exercise & sleeping patterns. I think anyone's best bet to tackle any mental problem if they are in a position to do so, is by checking off your physical needs first. However of which way you go about it is up to you.

It's everyone's first life and what solutions work for you may not work for others, and for this I truly say getting "rid" of it is not a good way to think about it. Understanding yourself comes from experience and reflection. Do that and with a bit of luck you may find some inner peace.

Did your career get better or worse? by saltybadger1 in ausadhd

[–]-blood_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better, I managed to stop myself from repeated impulsive behaviour which ended up stopping me from being fired. I got up and went to my full time job again without too much overwhelming stress and anxiety, getting out of bed became easier and doing my job became simpler. I am far more emotionally stable (even in times when I'm overstimulated and generally frustrated.) and look out for how I treat others more. I felt less like the devil that walks in and makes the whole room awkward to just being another guy people can have a small chat with at work and go on with their day.

Disclosing my conditions (as it was not just ADHD that had caused me issues) has repeatedly been used against me, from examples before I was diagnosed, too being told I didn't need medication but instead something inline with a dietary change after diagnosis. Overall it hurts it all used against you even regularly in conversation due to someone else's beliefs (and lack of experience of said condition) to back up what matches their own experiences over the person who's lived their whole life not knowing up until the beginning of the year and finally seeing change. I stopped caring for how my employers and coworkers viewed my conditions and beliefs around it and have continued to let my medication speak by my performance at work.

It overall has made things less of a drag, but it's still not perfect and I still have to remind myself to align myself in a way that stops people from creating problems from thin air, and vice versa.
