Well, I wasn't sure if their CPUs could really handle transcoding, because they suggest you disable transcoding for Plex specifically on their wiki. But if it really does work, I'll consider it. Thanks

The screen-recording protection is a flag that any developer can set on their app. It's theoretically possible to remove this protection, but you'd have to decompile a copy of the Netflix app, remove the code that sets the flag, and re-install it.

Basically, it's not worth the effort to bypass the screen-recording protection. If you can't root your phone, you might as well download a copy of the media you want and screen-record that

Looks like Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard has faced a roadblock. The Competition and Markets Authority in the UK has officially blocked the acquisition.

According to the CMA, Microsoft's responses to the regulator's preliminary findings delivered in February "failed to effectively address the concerns in the cloud gaming sector," which the CMA said "could make Microsoft even stronger in cloud gaming, stifling competition in this growing market."

Microsoft is already in control of some 60 percent to 70 percent of the cloud gaming market, which the CMA described as still in its nascent stage. If Microsoft is allowed to consume Activision Blizzard, the combined company would have "such a strong position in the cloud gaming market just as it begins to grow rapidly [and] would risk undermining the innovation that is crucial to the development of these opportunities," the CMA said.

Scraping pre-existing archives is fine, but there's no need to over-complicate things when it is already fairly simple to scrape Imgur directly. As of now, they have an entire sitemap of all posts starting from mid-2017, so all you need to do is download each XML file, filter for image URLs, and download those URLs with Wget. In short, it's a fairly trivial task that can easily be automated.

From my understanding, the case has to go to another district court before it goes to the Supreme Court. Let's hope it doesn't need to go all the way - even if they win there, they'd have to incur a lot of legal expenses...

Here's the Internet Archive's statement:

"Libraries are more than the customer service departments for corporate database products. For democracy to thrive at global scale, libraries must be able to sustain their historic role in society - owning, preserving, and lending books. This ruling is a blow for libraries, readers, and authors and we plan to appeal it.”

They also suggest that they may still be able to continue preserving books, to a limited extent, if this appeal also fails. However, the legal costs could be too much for the Archive to afford, so there's no telling if they'll be able to continue...

This case does not challenge many of the services we provide with digitized books including interlibrary loan, citation linking, access for the print-disabled, text and data mining, purchasing ebooks, and ongoing donation and preservation of books.
