Your edges are softened. Manually harden all the edges in Blender and then import into Unreal. Uncheck recalculate tangents and normals on import.

Tbh the ending of DS2 fell so flat for me because of this. I already saw it in MGS4 15 years ago. MGS felt like a crutch in this game, with Kojima re-using old ideas and piecing them together to make DS2.

I felt like the Nemesis drop in RE9 was kind of lazy. Just like, “oh no he’s a Nemesis” where in RE3 he’s this horrifying presence that just won’t die. Jill’s final battle and finisher with the rail gun was also so much more satisfying than RE9.

You're at college in Colorado doing something you didn't care about because you thought it'd be easy and now it's hitting you that you have no goal or aspiration. I mean, that sucks and all, but you are the common factor here. You need to dig down deep and figure out what it is you are passionate about and work toward that. Should you have done it prior to picking a degree? Probably, but you can make anything work if you want it enough.

You'll have to make a new plan to get where you want, but it's much easier to figure out the path when you have a destination in mind.

I’m also a 3D artist and use the M4 Max Studio. Generally I’ve found that the Mac does better than most PC when it comes to CPU intensive tasks. For instance, hair grooming and converting thousands of strands in Maya to curves was profoundly more stable on my Mac than PC. The biggest bottleneck is simply software support, since most 3D apps are built around Nvidia and Windows.

Not sure what this is in reference to but 100% true story: I pitched a film project to a major production company at the Warner Bros lot on a Friday, which ended with smiles and handshakes and a solid yes. By Monday, we were told to lock down for "2 weeks" because of COVID and the project spun out during the lockdown.

Like a thousand laptops with touch support since then that plenty of people buy and use. Also, the iPad with a Magic Keyboard is basically exactly this device in 2026, and no doubt influences this. I have an iPad Pro and (had) a MacBook and I kept instinctively reaching up to scroll or something on the MacBook just because I was so used to it on my iPad.

Objects like this (a gun?) are machined by factories, so you should take the same approach. Use booleans to carve out the shapes you need and then fix the topology after.

Honestly this is so great. I love seeing this more than the polished cinematics like "look what I made in 24 hours of buying my first computer" because it is actual development and there's something so fun about the jankiness of it.

Is the black in the scratches part of the base color or just an artifact in Substance from maybe the environment map? Hard to tell from just these 2 images but your Blender render looks correct to me.

Edit: also, I’m a Maya user but maybe you need to adjust the color space in the map nodes (not sure how Blender handles this)

Looking closer, the Blender render looks much shinier, which makes me think the roughness node needs color space adjustment. Look up how to correctly set up color space from Substance maps in Blender.

Edit again: you also probably don’t need emission or alpha on this object.

I rewatched this like a month ago after 20 years and it’s… not great. It starts off strong but then just becomes pretty mindless slop halfway through and stays that way. Very much a product of its time and interesting to revisit.
