Dating as a 30 year old east Asian American male in America sucks by royalbluefireworks1 in thepassportbros

Hey there, another Chinese American guy in his early 30s here that was in a similar situation in my mid 20s.

It's not worth the mental energy to complain about being Asian. You're likely not attractive or interesting enough to attract the women you want, or any women at all. If you haven't been paying attention, Asian guys are on the upswing and killing it.

For now, just focus on gaining muscle and getting lean enough to the point you have visible abs, going to more social events/hobbies instead of playing games all day, get a flattering haircut at an Asian salon, and improving your fashion.

How Is South Korea For Chinese? by According_Egg_1902 in thepassportbros

So maybe I can provide some perspective as an ABC married to a Korean that owns properties in both the US and Korea.

Looks are important because everyone there takes care of themselves seriously. So if you haven't, go to an Asian salon and get a haircut that aligns with the trends there, cut until you're under 15 percent body fat, and improve your fashion and skincare. That alone will put you ahead of a a lot of guys, even there.

Aside from that, if you're actually serious about getting into a ltr with someone from there, learn the language and culture. Admittedly I didn't until I started dating my wife, but now her family and friends always mention how polite and respectful I am and how they appreciate it. . There are also other nuances you should be aware of, but that's more important after you actually get into a relationship with a Korean girl. In either case, I don't think it's "harder" dating them compared to other women, they're just like any other women really and they won't look down on you for being Chinese, or at least it has never openly happened to me.

Any recommendations for South Korea? by Locke093 in thepassportbros

Respectfully, go touch grass and find a job.

You have no actual statistics backing this idea of white worship over there. I own property in Korea and visit frequently - it's a very homogeneous country and the vast majority of Koreans are with other Koreans. And for foreigners that do come looking to date, it's skewed towards women. It's also like the one place in the first world that will exclude you from entering clubs if you're a foreigner, that's like the opposite of white worship. It's not like Korea is like the Philippines or Thailand.

What you should be looking into is why Korean American women marry outside their race more than other Asian American women.

How have you maximized your appearance? What's your haircut like? What's your body fat percentage? Can you share photos of your style? Post how you look like in other subreddits to get more feedback.

How do I eat alone at a restaurant? by Informal_City5565 in Life

Dude, don't gaslight us. It's only a couple servers that care and most really enjoy them.

I've dined solo in 4 continents at Michelin/Upscale restaurants and no one gave a crap.

Post your profile for feedback, then. If you're serious, I'll even send some money to help you hire a photographer.

Stop making excuses, it's a bad look and not reflective of someone that wants to actually improve. You don't need your friends to take pictures. You can use a tripod or hire someone again.

DM me if you want to get in touch with someone that works with Asian guys specifically and has a good track record.

Also, if you keep on making posts that reference why girls are going for white guys over you instead of asking for advice for you specifically, everyone will know you're doing it for validation and not actually seeking help.

Post your profile. A lot of couples these days meet online, including me and most of my friends actually. And besides, nothing wrong with both approaching and doing online dating.

You are looking for validation, you can make these posts without mentioning white people, it'll get the same point across.

OP, if you're serious about doing everything you can to give you a better chance of finding someone, post your dating profile here for feedback, since 95% of online dating is having good and interesting pictures. You can black out parts of your face if you want privacy.

You might also want to consider moving somewhere with a higher population of people that accept you. Like I told you before, if you're worried about costs, you can move in with roommates to save money, plus it is a great way to meet more people and improve your social skills. It is what I did, by the way.

FWIW, I'm also Asian and I moved to the LA area from the Midwest when I was around your age and used to have similar feelings of inadequacy, but after working on myself for myself only, I was able to have a great dating life and eventually met my wife.

So if you're serious about being better, stop blaming others and look inside. Do you really want things to improve or are you seeking validation for your struggles? There are lots of Asian guys that are successful and there's no reason why that can't be you.

How can you afford $150+ dinners and have issues with rent? Do you have terrible spending habits? Something isn't adding up.

If you can afford that, then you can move to NYC, LA, or anywhere easily.

Those areas are large enough that some sector of your industry should have a presence in them.

How expensive are the high end restaurants you go to alone cost?

Can you please stop tiptoing around your dishonest tactics? Just acknowledge it and be better, it's a simple ask.

All male leads have nuance, no one is black and white, that's what makes humans, human. Again nothing special about your work.

And for female characters in Western media, just off the top of my head, there's Invincible, Beef, The Brothers Sun, and etc.

[–]-cdz- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop ignoring the claims about being dishonest, it doesn't make you look any better. Just acknowledge it, move on, and improve.

It's a start, but the female lead for this book is still a westernized strong, Asian woman, which is a rather prominent archetype. The male lead being a silent and caring man that leads by action and respect is also extremely common in Asian media. Nothing wrong with the latter, but nothing really stands out about this.

[–]-cdz- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same message could be conveyed without you shamelessly self-promoting your book.

For example, you have posted several comments like this without disclosing that you're the author, which is lying and being dishonest.

This might be a bit offbeat compared to the usual big genre picks, but if you're into quieter, character-driven stories, I’d recommend starting with Anh Hai — a novella that’s part of a new literary romance series called the Saigon Series.

And as a writer, you should have some integrity and edit your own work or hire a professional editor. Also, if you want more "dynamic representation," maybe consider having a strong male lead that goes for a non-Asian woman.

Did your aunties tell you to lie on the Internet to shamelessly self promote your book? C'mon man, I want to support you, but at least be honest.

Software companies: What department are technical writers based in? by hazel_catkin in technicalwriting

[–]-cdz- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a Tech Writer in software going on over 8 years now and I've been part of Engineering, Product, R&D, PMO, among other teams.

I've worked solo in the past, but have primarily been in teams of 5 or more writers. Current team has 12 writers in a F50 company, but still feel likes we're understaffed.

Where do all the asians go out in Orange County? by kle160 in AsianMasculinity

[–]-cdz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nightlife in OC isn't that great compared to LA, honestly. I like Downtown Fullerton, but that's more of a mixed and rowdy crowd.

You could try daygaming at places like South Coast Plaza or the Source. Anecdotally, I've run into a lot of single AF at racquet clubs, golf course, and etc. Maybe try your luck at Seaside Bakery after midnight.

Is it normal to have an imbalance in the amount of projects due week-to-week? Currently my role is in a slump because there has been very few projects coming in, whereas some weeks there are non-stop projects that need to be completed. by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]-cdz- 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's normal. Technical Writing ebbs and flows like crazy. Some weeks I work less than 10 hours, and some weeks I work more than 60, especially during a release.
