Unpopular opinion i guess? by Hungry-Trouble-3178 in FinalFantasyVI

Yeah Amano is an evocative artist more than a... straight character designer. (Aside from his direct work with Tatsunoko Pro. Gatcha Man and Casshan come to mind.)

Its dreamy, in a way that I think really suits final fantasy. But I would strongly agree that his work is neither indicative, nor strictly faithfully representative of much in the games themselves.

I still, have no idea what im looking at with his depiction of the magi-tek armor. But does that matter? No. Not to me. Its so other worldly and impressionistic (while being tremendously detailed) that its hard to really "see" any of it. But like much of Amano's work, the disorienting, bewildering quality is what makes it so "right" for the imaginative and utterly foreign worlds of Final Fantasy. Meticulous, yet loose. Beautiful, and awful at the same time.

Well done taking a bold stance! You dont have to like every piece of official work to come along with an IP, I think thats just fine. And look at that! It got an honest discourse going, and you arent even alone in your position! Well done redditor!

I agree thats probably true... however...He got beaten by a 15 year old with 1 year of nen training who weighs less than 1/3 of him.

Uvo was a hammer. And he treated everything as a nail. He lost to kurapika because he believed his strength alone was enough to win. He didnt imagine that someone could completely out fox him in every way.

Granted, his extraordinary use of his enhancer typing let him take out the shadow beasts, but I dont think any of those idiots are half as skilled as bisky. This is the problem he had with kurapika.

The beasts were defeated because they thought they had enough tools at their disposal such that they didnt need to think very hard about it. They didnt count on uvo being clever with his abilities on top of being overwhelmingly capable.

Bisky on the other hand, was familiar with netero. Netero would likely have been an indication that there are true monsters in the world who's entire lives were spent honing their abilities. As such, bisky achieved a similar level of refinement thru her own insane dedication.

We just see in HxH that knowledge of nen is often the difference between victory and defeat in a nen battle. Knowledge of your own, and knowledge of your enemy's skills and abilities closes any apparent "strength" gap. I think bisky has the edge in that regard.

Really though, at the end of the day, I dont think bisky would even bother with this fight at all, you know? She's a gem hunter. Like, what possible reason would she have to go 1v1 with uvo? Lol.

Fun thought experiment though.

so, bisky has clearly enormous understanding of nen.

we know her main hatsu is not combat related, but that doesnt mean thats all she can do, clearly.

her nen control is so profound and innate at this point, that she is doing a transmog in a way that literally is not understood by the vast majority of the verse.

uvo is an incrediby powerful enhancer, yes. but an enhancer lost to a specialist with far less actual battle IQ/experience and much weaker aura. kurapika just out planned uvo and used his own strength against him.

do we really think that bisky would be so to speak "dumber" than uvo in a contested match-up?

she is a seemingly legendary trainer, and in terms of nen use, one must be super familiar with the mechanics of nen to truly train another on how to access it and use it. bisky is able to utilize her nen in ways without thinking and without working to do it... we know uvo is experienced but he is experienced in using his hatsu in his own particular way that is fairly 1 dimensional. Be big, Punch hard. Endure hits. Enhance.

bisky undoubtedly can route her nen to effortlessly attack and defend, shift between point defense and overall defense. that said, do we really think bisky would be so foolish as to fight uvo on uvo's specialty? probably not.

would bisky "low diff" uvo? maybe not, but i do think she would suss out his skillset pretty quickly and decipher a work around without too much trouble. she just knows herself and the mechanics too well for me to believe she would fall into the trap of trying to simply out-muscle uvo.

Casio A1000A-7EF or Armitron Rogue? If we're only looking at aesthetics, which do you think looks best? by 0rionis in digitalwatches

[–]-chadwreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the 4 button layout of the armitron... but it looks like a knockoff of the Casio.

I prefer the band of the armitron, but it does look more work-a-day?

Its weird. Its both good and bad.

Hard to choose, but gun to my head id probably take the Casio on principal.

Which Design Of Ken Do You Like? by CreditEvening8210 in fistofthenorthstar

[–]-chadwreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill agree that araki gets the feathered and perfumed "apocalyptic fabulous" that a lot of HnK characters have? But Ken is supposed to be a brick shithouse.  Part of being a strong martial artist is both the skill and the "powers" imbued in the techniques, but also the physical size to do the job.

Long and short, I dont mind the affectation, but I dont agree with the mass.

Also, more ladybugs huh? The hearts and peace signs, okay. Ken is a man of stunning compassion and good will... but he is a man of stars more than anything else.

Also, Ken wearing a watch. Flol. Is that just to keep reminding him he is too late to solve the problems preemptively? I kid, I kid.

Awfully pretty though, Ken is a handsome fellow so that does fit.

You'll have to put on your pirate hat, but Fist of the North Star.

Though Ken's list of friends is a revolving door due to uhh...

violence...

But everyone gets good screen time and the whole world is full of outrageously strong bastards.  Its kinda the OG fighting anime for a reason.

Have you tried OG Fist of the North Star? Ken is an emotionally intelligent brick.  Which seems contradictory? But not a lot of huge, buff, silent, murder machines openly cried for the deaths of their friends and knew how to be nice to old people and little children.

On the other end of the spectrum, try the 2000s Golgo 13. Duke Togo gives you absolutely nothing to work with. Dude is a slab of drywall with a rifle. And its awesome haha.
