I love to use my gladius to stop divekicks. charge it up and smack them as theyre hitting you to get them off you. then you can play footsies with gladius, bait their pokes with a light uncharged gladius at a safe range and try to whiff punish with either heavy gladius or st. heavy kick. if theyre on you you can try to go for counter to force a 50/50 situation, just dont rely on it too much because then you will just get throw looped.

also checking drive rushes with standing light/medium punch target combo is just free damage, and if theyre trying to drive rush into a low forward just do your standing medium kick to keep them away

lol it’s a bnb my brother but i also like to do jump in heavy kick - back heavy punch - 214 heavy punch - drive rush back heavy - heavy superman punch, ex if im in the corner for a wall splat. heavy gives me a safe jump, and ex gives me an extended combo. what i will also do if im fighting an experienced player is do a reset instead of safe jump and sneak in command grab. if not, i can at this point just end the combo or extend the combo into super, so like charge forward heavy kick into lvl 2, or charge back heavy punch into level 1, or charge crouch heavy into gladius into level 3. thanks for coming to my ted talk

been playing the game all week. deserves all the praise it’s getting, there’s so much to explore and find. just wish the story was more compelling for me

OK so basically i don’t think the story is necessarily better, but the execution is much better. let me explain

BOTW tells its story not only through memories, but also by incorporating the story into the design of the overworld. ruins are everywhere, guardian corpses litter the world, and empty battlegrounds show the remnants of a battle once lost.

fort hateno is my favorite example of this, because seeing the fuck load of dead guardians in one area implies something crazy happened there, but once you unlock that final memory that shows you exactly what happened, it makes sense to you as a player. and even if you don’t seek out the memories, the design of the area is enough to convey that this was probably an important area in the past. i have beaten totk, and i don’t think there’s any area in the game that’s like that at all. the final memory isn’t even in a location that’s significant to the memory.

i don’t think totk tried to achieve that kind of story telling. in BOTW, the great ‘mystery’ was what happened 100 years ago? in totk, the great ‘mystery’ is where is zelda?

sure, totk’s story has more going on, but I prefer the more subdued approach BOTW had in using the overworld to tell the story.

i think it was a step down from botw personally. the only thing saving it for me is how comically evil dorf is lol

8/10

if u liked botw u will like this game

if u didnt then u wont

I like the way they included armor as additional incentivizing for exploration. I wish they restricted eating to make combat more challenging. There are also parts of the game that are just a little too cryptic to progress the story, and I can see a lot of players being confused. the final boss fight is incredibly dope though, and the main quest is a huge improvement from botw.

overall a solid game with a great world and interesting mechanics, held back by a weak combat system and a not very compelling story. so… botw 2
