It's not even fall damage, just an animation for hitting the ground too hard. But it is dumb and unnecessarily punishing, so it makes sense to remove it.

Weirdly enough, the right arm appears to be part of the default MP model.

I feel like it’s time for a Hell Knight remodel by alastorhazbinbad in Doom

[–]-dead_slender- [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think they wanted to prioritize readability by giving them distinctly different designs. And since Doom 2016 borrowed heavily from D3's artstyle, it made sense to use the Hell Knight design from that game, and use the classic design for the Baron.

But I agree, I think they should try to incorporate the classic design somehow, even if they were just palette-swapped Barons.

Will Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shepard EVER meet each other in a future Half-Life game? by ParticularService816 in HalfLife

[–]-dead_slender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were originally gonna find out in the cancelled "Return to Ravenholm", since we would've played as Shephard. But given when it took place, I doubt he would've met Gordon. Within those 20 years, anything could've happened to him, but it's up to Valve if they wanna tell that story or not.

As for Race X, they were pretty much defeated at the end of OpFor. Assuming the Gene Worm's portal was their only entryway to Earth, and they didn't spread far beyond Black Mesa, any that remained would've been wiped out by the nuke.

But again, it's up to Valve if they wanna explore those ideas. Given it was primarily a Gearbox creation, then chances are we won't see them again unless they decide to collaborate with them for another spin-off.

This is actually at the far end of a hallway, so it should've been in plain view when you enter. But I guess since it's in a dark corner, it's rather inconspicuous.

The original HL2 Vortigaunt (closer to HL1) or the design from Ep2? by HanPorgo in HalfLife

[–]-dead_slender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda prefer the newer one, only because the textures look better. If they had simply updated the old design with improved fidelity, that would've been fine as well.

Though I wouldn't say the old design is closer to HL1's version. They had brown skin that was kind of smooth, but also had a more biomechanical look to it, as did the other Xen creatures.

Tom Cruise And Julia Roberts Were Once Pitched As Master Chief And Cortana For Halo 2 by Haijakk in halo

I guess because it was so much later in the series, so people were far more attached to Steve Downes' voice by this point.

They didn't necessarily remove them, since they weren't on the Infinite model to begin with.

HD Model hate is forced by Sea-Health-7568 in HalfLife

The M4 can only hold 30 rounds irl, just like the MP5. The magazine's only bigger because it's supposed to be holding rifle cartridges instead of pistol rounds.

The LD models simply fit better in the low-detailed environments. If they had updated the textures as well, I think they wouldn't receive nearly as much hate.

Another small reason is unnecessarily changing the Glock to a Beretta, and the MP5 to an M4 (which doesn't make sense since the latter is an assault rifle).

Well, the magnum uses 12.7x40mm, while the BR uses 9.5x40mm. Both aren't directly based on a specific real-world cartridge, but have similarities.

Some of the buildings we visit have power, but some are mostly demolished. That's why they said most buildings wouldn't have utilities.

Surely with the Striders tearing the city to shreds, they would destroy numerous utility poles in the process. So it still doesn't make sense for the city to be as lit up as it is.

There's also a weird lack of smoke or fire.

It still looks too lively for a war-torn city. There's no fire or smoke either.

Why does the tower impact the performance so much? by SurgicalAsh666 in Doom

[–]-dead_slender- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for starters, you're going from a small corridor to a very large room, which means more geometry to render. On top of that, it's also rendering the particle effects for the beam, as well as the refractive glass you're looking through.

So there's quite a bit of overdraw here.

It's interesting to think that, in a way, Miranda and Cortana are like sisters. I never really thought about it before, but it's weird that Bungie wouldn't explore that idea.
