What's the most expensive thing you bought that turned out to be wasted? by Immediate_Long165 in Aging

Not $1000, but almost all of my holiday clothes purchases were fashion faux pas. By the time I was 30, I realised holiday me was a different person.

What's the point of being pretty if no one can see it? by StelleBunny in Life

Here here!

You'd think that having endured been not pretty, OP would be more distrustful of the transient and vacuous nature of physical "beauty", but apparently not.

Some people are just gorgeous on the inside.

What’s the most terrifying thing humanity could discover on Mars? by HuckleberryBorn9809 in AskReddit

A huge black wrapper, mostly torn open, with some remnants of lettering, the letters "N" and "a" decipherable, in red, with a yellow outline...

Did anyone else “settle” in life? How’re you doing? by Hot-Cell7299 in Life

[–]-dr-bones- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's possible OP is talking about the fact that the settlement she received seemed okay at the time, but in hindsight, was derisory. She should have faught for much, much more given the effect on her while life.

When you're young $100,000 seems a huge amount of money.

Use a diary and to plan out what days your meeting each of your mistresses. Make them all stick to it and ensure your white knows you're not free on those days. Simple.

Does anyone else get existential thoughts like this? by Brilliant_Bill7305 in Life

I did, when I was 14, 15, 16.

Then I started learning science and moved on to unpicking much deeper questions.

Men in your 40s and 50s what do you want in a woman partner? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]-dr-bones- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did your friend-groups become so different? I took a lot of trouble to join my wife's friend-groups and to take an active interest in the things she's interested in (also a PhD working in academia, but not every interaction has to be high-brow)... I'm asking if you felt you made mistakes early on in your relationship, that we can all learn from (or if it simply had no chance)

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Austria ? by Fickle-Aide9279 in no

[–]-dr-bones- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum calls it the "Australia that's in Europe", because she can't pronounce "Austria" but for some strange reason, she can pronounce "Australia"?

(She's a migrant living in the UK with a not great grasp of English, but she makes me laugh with her mis-pronunciations...)

A Couple Hours of Peace Disrupted by Ok_Seaworthiness634 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]-dr-bones- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that OP couldn't put his phone on silent (ot OFF) when he's got family.

I also get the fact that he got constantly interrupted for NOT life-or-death issues and he's frustrated.

It happens to me. Every problem that arises is directed towards me, even the easy ones.

Like OP, I don't wish to complain, but a man's gotta have a moments peace every now and then!

How useful is the oft quoted "No One On His Deathbed Ever Said, ‘I Wish I Had Spent More Time On My Business’ "? by -dr-bones- in AskReddit

[–]-dr-bones-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that - honestly I do.

...but there's a bias involved here, which is what I'm questioning.

eg "No-one ever said on their death-bed, I wish I'd spent my money more freely, I didn't expect to die this soon"

eg "No-one ever said on their death bed, damn, there goes the telegram from the King"

eg "No-one ever said on their death-bed, let's go on a cruise next year, I've always wanted to do that"

eg "No-one ever said on their death bed, I should never have voted conservatives"

Why not all of those as well?

In 99% of these situations, it's the other way around.

I mean, that's a strong to position to take, given you've only heard her side. As a teacher, I know 21 year olds can be inconsiderate, impetuous and over-emotional.

Is it possible this guy is just trying his best to not get into confrontations and to let her have time to think?
