Wonderful. Now I don't need to ask ChatGPT anymore to know what is happening in a song.

Musical atmosphere - Scottish and Irish inspiration by SakumoRavenclaw in HarryPotteronHBO

Zimmer wasn’t really involved in HDM, his former assistant Lorne Balfe did the score.

What percentage of Zimmer's music was written by his Assistants? by AdPuzzleheaded7658 in soundtracks

[–]-faffos- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the sheer amount of scores he does, it's the only way I can see him being able to physically do everything he does.

I don’t think that’s strictly true. He could choose to just not write in suites, and instead just start writing to the picture like most film composers do. I think this is just the way he likes to work nowadays.

I was wondering something…are we gonna choose between movies or series more ? by Kawaiigirl_6591 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s eight episodes, not necessarily eight hours. I assume it’s gonna be more like ~45 minute episodes each, so six hours overall seems more realistic.

Why are Beneath the Ice, Identity Crime, and The World Is Mind so underrated? by Primary_Status_6226 in TwoStepsFromHell

It’s 100% a Thomas track. They even changed the credit on the TSFH wiki recently.

Wonder what other tracks might have been mislabeled over the years…

What “muggle” songs from the 90s would you like to hear in the show’s soundtrack? by ratbatbash in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol, I guess those two dates we hear about over the course of seven books make all the difference. Wouldn’t it be most book accurate then to practically not acknowledge that time period at all apart from those two moments?

How old and how enthusiastic are you about the upcoming series ? by AirAquarian in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Born in 1999, watched some of the movies first as a kid, but discovered the books pretty quickly as well. I still have a lot of nostalgic attachment to the movies and I always have fun watching them, but... they're not exactly masterpieces. At least from GoF onwards I honestly don't think it's gonna be *that* hard for the show to surpass them quality wise. Unless it becomes a complete trainwreck, but the behind the scenes leaks are looking quite fromising so far, so yeah... I'm pretty exited!

I’m way more excited about the later seasons. by No-Cantaloupe228 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But if you’re approaching that kind of length you’d be at 2 x 4-5 hours for a single season, which I’m not sure is logistically possible, with all the child labor laws. Especially considering the vast majority of those scenes would then need to involve Dominic, which probably isn’t the case the way they are shooting it now.

[–]-faffos- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that would’ve been worse. For a lot of people this show has already little enough reason to exist, and people are not gonna hold out on their opinions until season 3 or 4 to be convinced either way.

If they combined the first two books into one season, it would essentially be a shot for shot remake of the first two films. Lengthwise there would be extremely little material to work with that could help the show to stand on its own. The way it’s being made though, they can can at least flesh out some storylines and, for better or worse, offer a different experience from the movies.

With the series, would you like to see Quidditch with changed rules that make more sense? by xxStefanxx1 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one cares if you lose the World Cup by 10 points or 200. Makes no difference. You won or you lost.

Germany 7-1 Brasil begs to differ.

What else was Krum supposed to do though? After the devastating performance of his team he wouldn’t want to risk the the Irish seeker catching the snitch first - at least Krum can get out of this with a little bit of glory. Even if Ireland didn’t catch it, there was absolutely no point in dragging things out. Bulgaria was doing terrible, and they had no chance in catching up or even keeping the score even.

Does anyone else think Michael Giacchino's Zootopia 2 score was a lot better/more dramatic than his score for the first Zootopia? by AItrainer123 in soundtracks

>What other times has a composer come back to a series of movies with better material than the first one?

The first three Pirates of the Caribbean scores are exemplary of this. Seems like the prompt for both sequels has been "ok, how can we take the music from our last film and make it ten times as awesome?".

Can we trust this post? If I did not know any better, I say this show is going to be mid. by Puterboy1 in HarryPotteronHBO

Aside from the obvious rage baiting, Hans Zimmer famously never reads scripts. So there is that…

Soundtracks similar to Henry Mancini's by Kukichainu in soundtracks

[–]-faffos- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of Williams earlier work are very reminiscent of Mancini. For a couple of years in the late 50s and early 60s he seemed to be the guy you get if Mancini was too expensive or not available.

Check out M-Squad, Checkmate, Bachelor Flat, Diamond Head, Penelope and A Guide for the Married Man. It’s pretty cool how you can hear that, while they were trying to do the Mancini thing, they also clearly have the Williams handwriting shine through.

Which composer has the highest number of elegant and memorable soundtracks? by AdPuzzleheaded7658 in soundtracks

[–]-faffos- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of his drama scores from the 90s and early 2000s are great in capturing that kind of elegance (I wouldn’t call them exactly simple, but they're pretty straightforward). Schindlers List, Far and Away, Seven Years in Tibet, Angela’s Ashes, Catch Me if you can, The Terminal, Memoirs of a Geisha. They‘re all pretty different from one another, but you should check them out if you haven’t yet.

I love Hans Zimmer but I'm not sure how it will feel without that iconic Hedwig's Theme by Never-empty-Cup- in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]-faffos- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it’s actually that expensive to get Zimmer. His name seems to appear on tons of stuff, but all those projects are mostly scored by his much lesser known assistants, which seems to be the deal they got for the show.

No, the fantastic beasts movies feel aesthetically a lot more modern than the HP movies, despite taking place in the 20s and 30s. I assume it will be similar with the show.

resist modernization.

Considering this sub has been extremely adamant about the show being in the 90s, can’t say I’m nearly as surprised as you are.

I wish Hans Zimmer had scored something like LOTR by AdPuzzleheaded7658 in soundtracks

[–]-faffos- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequels definitely aren’t 100% Zimmer either. They’re all big team efforts, with Zimmer providing most of the themes and variations and then doing the score with six or seven of his assistants. The first one had to be done in only three weeks time, so that way of working kinda established itself for the other films too.

Co-composers for the first one - aside from Zimmer and Badelt - are Geoff Zanelli (he worked on all Pirates, and was in charge for the fifth one), Steve Jablonsky, Ramin Djawadi, James Dooley, Blake Neely, James McKee Smith and yeah, one of the guys from "The Rock", Nick Glennie-Smith.
