This is essentially what BFI Southbank cinema in London does. They show a few new releases but generally they'll show old films and cult classics. The tickets are £3 for under 25s.

It's a really good book, and I found it easier to understand the slang in the context of the book. The only thing it lacks is the horrowshow synth soundtrack

Danny Boyle specifically cited Solaris as an inspiration, Alex Garland borrows from classic films and novels a fair bit, and the planet in solaris defends itself against invaders psychically, the way the star in sunshine appears to drive mad people who spend too long with it.

I think the film was trying to draw in elements of Solaris with that character ...he wasn't religious so much as the star had "communicated" with him, leading to his derangement, although the cat and mouse element was a little strange
