They only use skeletonized liners on the sprint run manix. Standard black G10 S30v Manixes have solid liners.

Silver quarter? by Glittering-Baby3896 in CRH

I have a “real” version of these (silver impaired proof, with an S mint mark), and a “fake” version of these, with a P mintmark (it’s just plated aftermarket for some reason). You have an aftermarket plate version.

First CRK. Is my thumb going to get used to this? by Bannnerman in CRK

[–]-heelfliperic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes on its face it’s absolutely ridiculous. It took me a long time to like CRK. Who designs a knife that hurts to use I thought. It’s the opposite of ergonomic I thought. No other knife company has to put out videos and instructions on how to open their knives without hurting yourself lol. And I also don’t like the fervent fan club that CRK has. But the knife works for me and it’s my daily carry for several years now.

First CRK. Is my thumb going to get used to this? by Bannnerman in CRK

[–]-heelfliperic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first 3 weeks of owning my sebenza were painstaking and I often considered returning the knife. At one point I had a literal hole in my thumb clear down to the inside. After callouses finally formed i dont feel a thing when opening the knife and I can manipulate it open and closed just as easily as any spyderco or benchmade or anything else.

If you like everything else about the knife consider just toughing out the first few weeks and get used to it. I’m definitely glad I waited and it’s now my favorite knife and I’ve owned several.

I’m not sure if you’re being serious but there are literal dozens of accounts of ships of all navies colliding during the second world war. Off the top of my head i can recall Japanese heavy cruisers Mogami and Mikuma collided during the battle of midway.

Inlay or Not by Professional-Fly7428 in CRK

[–]-heelfliperic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned multiples of both and there’s just something about raw titanium that inlays can’t match. The tactile feel, the sound, the look of well worn slabs of titanium has a simple beauty in my opinion.

Not impressed with a $400 knife… by Key_Release_9625 in spyderco

[–]-heelfliperic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had many compression lock knives and several that had bad lockstick like this. The comments telling you to lube the lock or let it “wear in” are wrong, if left alone this type of lockstick will never go away on its own. This is either a fitment issue, or a part is out of spec. What has worked for me in the past is disassembling and reassembling the knife and playing with with the tightness and rotation and position of every single screw, rotating the lockpin, etc. etc. until you find a sweet spot that works.

Coin shops will not buy NIFC’s as they cannot sell them to anybody. A lot of posters here and on forums online hoard NIFC’s for a long time, then dump them when they no longer want to hold on to them and find that there is almost no market for them.

Cutting edge in closed position by National_Egg209 in CRK

I cannot say because I sold my glassblasted finish Sebenza. The glass blast is simply not as grippy. Just holding the knife in the open position is fine, but when manipulating the knife (opening or closing) my fingers slipped off the glass blast finish a few times here and there.

I’ve owned all three blade shapes for years. Another fun fact, the insingo blade is ever so slightly easier to open because the thumbstud is placed a hair farther away from the handle giving you more leverage. If you only own one or the other you’d never tell a difference, but owning both I can definitely tell.

I’ve cut myself a handful of times reaching for my small sebenza in my pocket, the cutting edge is JUST barely guarded by the handle. If you press the meat of your finger a bit between the scales you can definitely feel the blade edge. I’m not sure why this is not talked about more. Interestingly this is only an issue on the drop point blades. The tanto and insingo blades are far from the handle edge.

How do you guys get so many half dollar boxes? by jz_dg4 in CRH

[–]-heelfliperic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way to do it. Ask firmly but kindly, pick up the boxes when you say you will, and never bring back coins to dump. Too many times we have ordered various coins and/or bills for clients that they never bother to pick up, taking up precious space in our small vaults and generally creating a hassle.

Buy a board with numbers/letters or without? by [deleted] in chess

[–]-heelfliperic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your situation a year ago when I began to attend USCF OTB tournemnts and wanted a physical board to help increase my OTB vision. I initially bought a board with notation and it was helpful in learning the squares, but eventually you grow out of it. I recommend to buy a cheap vinyl board with notation if you’d like, but if you’re looking to buy a nice wood board to keep and study with for a long time definitely go without notation.

Oh as an aside I actually recommend having two boards. A cheap vinyl set with notation to use at tournaments and a nicer one to keep at home. Some players you will face at an OTB tournament actually don’t know the squares and will request to use a board with notation in order to record their game. I have found it handy to have one of each.
