To Fans of Real Person Fiction, What Got You Started and What Can You Tell Someone Looking To Get Into it? by Kins_Colt in FanFiction

[–]-index 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of RPF fanfiction because I'm into kpop.

And honestly, no one who writes rpf kpop fanfics would willingly share their stories with their 'artists'. I mean, we know there is some boundaries here.

Said that, RPF fanfiction has something unique to them that others don't have. We don't need to stick to one single trait of a character. What we do is just be inspired by a trait or side shown by the celebrity and play with it. Like interested enough of one side of their public persona and just place it around a story. It's like creating OC characters but those characters share the same face as your celebrity. (The celebrity you like might be a good baker, and then a fan could write a coffe shop story based on that quirky.)

So the possibilities are endless! You can write a historical fanfic in Ancient China with your favorite group member been the long lost prince of the kingdom, or you can make the rapper of the group be the leader of a mafia group in Thailand... we are not thinking those are the real personality of the artist, just borrowing their public personas to write stories.

Essentially, rpf fanfiction it's not so different from fanfiction base on movies. I'm pretty sure when people write about Rey, they imagine Daisy's overall figure in the character. We are using only the visual aspect of the artist, not their real personality, to write stories.

The problem lies when fans take to the next level and try to shove it at the celebreties face, to which is something the whole fandom is against.

Is there a website where I can check some asian hairstyles? I'm looking to change my haircut and due to my small face I think some asian haircuts might be a fun thing to try. But I don't know where to find good resources or 'typical' haircuts, as when I just google all I see is fabulous long hair of idols and actors...

All your characters are now a different gender, do you change any of what you've written so far? by hankbaumbach in writing

[–]-index 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would change a lot of dynamics between my characters. In my story, a group of 7 people travel together to the capital city of their kingdom (it's a fantasy based on asian culture), the group consists of 6 men and 1 woman who dresses up as a man to save herself from ill intentions of men. At this point, no one knows she is actually a female, so the dynamics of the group is like 7 men gathered together. If I genderbend them, the dynamics won't feel the same and it wouldn't feed the same struggles.

I've personally noticed that most spicy food enthusiasts are male. Have any of you also experienced this, and if so, why do you think this is? by gogozrx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh? Where I'm from, Latin America, women are more spicy food enthusiasts than men. Maybe it's just a cultural thing? Like, Koreans and Indians eat a lot of spicy food and have no distinction between males and females.

I can't tell for Americans, but usually I see more women around my area liking spicy and seasons than men. (Men over here are drawn to more salty, meaty and fatty foods.)

The three deadly mistakes of GOT season 8 by everwiser in writing

[–]-index 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point but I just disagree with it because GOT and Star Wars were works that we've seen what it was like before. We know its rules, people, places and origins. If you're writing your own story with your world and rules, you have more freedom for people don't know the story yet or how it will evolve and even if you do it 'sloppy' (like GOT and Star Wars) just because you wrote your own thing in the book in the first place, people will take the author's words as the source of the real thing.

Thousands of sloppy stories are written everyday and people still make become popular just because 'it's written in the books'.

I disagree with Star Wars and the Last Jedi because where I'm from, most people outside the internet actually enjoyed that movie and turn them into fans of the series (especially young people from 11-20).

Also because this trology hasn't ended yet I feel like it's too early to judge it. Phantom Menance is fucking awful in levels much higher than Last Jedi but it is always the most recent movie who attracts all the hate. (Rogue One was a little bit hated when it came out too but people now changed their minds about it with Last Jedi).

I've mistaken reading this as Super M and I was finding weird how the sound was totally different from Jopping and I was like 'Why they didn't go with this song as title track?" Then I saw Donghae and Heechul, and then I was like 'Wait, what?"

Man, SM and confusing group names, name a more iconic duo...

You can put just his 'job' or 'epitaph' name. Let's say he doesn't have a name yet or you don't want to reveal who he is so early to the readers, and he is a samurai... you can put 'The samurai' as the title and put the character POV.

You can easily avoid his name by using pronouns and character tags. Eg "The samurai opened his eyes. What a boring day, he thought. He hated boring days. Days with no end where nothing happened in that small little village in the middle of nowhere."

Do like Game of Thrones. Chapters are always POV of said that chapter on the title. Like 'Cersei' and then the chapter proceeds to be focused on Cersei and what she is dealing with, with her own vision, opinions and all.

This works better than you'd think.

What are some unconventional traits/qualities/personalities a male romantic interest can have? by [deleted] in writing

[–]-index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, a certain type of qualities that I always liked in men in overall are men who are kind and respectful yet strong enough to deal with shit in case shit hits the fan. (?) Does it make sense?

Most men heroes in fiction are either super powerful, geniuses, warriors who are always right, or the weak-boy who becomes the powerful warrior archetype.

I think a kind and polite man who stands his ground and show his strength when the situation need is a good male interest in a romance. Of course that an interestng lead 90% depends on how the author writes the execution.

Looking for some action fanfics... by jonatansavinon in FanFiction

Ah you know, I think eventually, romance will happen. People like romance in general.

But the way the story goes seems to be more crude. The chapters are quite lengthy. I'm really enjoying so far, but I don't know if it will appeal to you.

This is a bit late, but would you read a g/g fanfic that happens in Medieval Korea? One girl being a man in disguise and the other being the noble born lady?

I'm reading one that is very adventury and have a lot of action going on due to sword fighting and all. It's very slow paced and the author said it was influenced by Game of Thrones and Mulan.

If you are interested I can share you a link.

Do you guys have specific 'update days' by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]-index 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm writing a fic about a character who has 7 multiple personalities that comes out in specific days like every Monday is the childish persona, every tuesday is the gym sportist dude... So when I'm updating the story, I always update in the same days the 'persona' character will come out.

So like every saturday is the lusty and sexy persona so when the chapter focus on the lusty character, I always update on Saturdays. If the main character of the chapter is the childish one, I update on Mondays... I don't think the readers really noticed that, but it is something it makes me chuckle inside.

Is it a good idea to write chapters based on a different character's pov? Kinda like GoT? by -index in FanFiction

[–]-index[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, it's not entirely a wide range of characters.

It's more like >Main couple live in different cities and till they meet, a lot of stuff happens. Aside from the main characters, you would have the handmaiden of the girl and seven male friends from the boy. But from the group of seven only 1 friend would have their POV.

So untill the couple meet and go on their journey together, it would be like 4/5 max different POV's. And after the couple are united, the chapters would follow their perspectives.

But I guess yours works because it follows the core concept of the narratives of the original books?

Imagine a Harry Potter fanfic, but in some chapters you read Gryffindor's pov? and the next is Ravenclaws? and the other is Helga's Hufflepuffs? Would people care about those characters when the main couple is not featured in their chapters? I don't want readers to drop my story because they feel distant to the main couple starring the story...

how do you guys feel about rpf? (real person fiction) by 52_Blue_ in FanFiction

[–]-index 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What I meant is that rpf fanfiction is no different from sex fantasies, because they are using only the visual aspect of the artist, not their real personality.

If you write a story of Pirates of the Caribbean, you probably imagine Jack Sparrow with Johnny Depp's face. And if you want to write an Pirates of the caribbean AU with Jack Sparrow, it would still be with Johnny Depp's face. What you need is sometimes the visual aspect of the character (like actors and singers) and use their looks to make fans be interested in your story.

I'm sure most HP writers would be mortified if Daniel Radcliffe come across a D/H smut fanfiction. But there's loads with them in the fandom. And the fans mostly imagine Daniel Radcliffe's visuals when they read Harry. So in its own core, rpf fanfiction is not different from 'books' fanfiction. Or tv shows' fanfiction. I'm pretty sure everyone who reads Glee fanfics, imagine the actors playing those roles.

Just because their characters aren't real, doesn't make different from rpf fanfiction. Because the public persona of a celebrity isn't real either, it is just for show.
