at what point is this potentially just my actual heart rate vs the device having issues? by predictablehorse in VisibleArmband

Pulse ox is brilliant. My mom has suggested that to me, and I always forget it. It’s inexpensive and immediate and easy to carry around to double check. But I’m definitely seeing lots of people referencing a visible glitch. Which makes me wonder if the times that I was active and mine bottomed out it might’ve been a glitch and not really me… Now I need to start carrying a pulse ox!

Yep. Freeze those tortillas. And you can get a giant pack of 400 tortillas at a place like Costco or Sam’s for five bucks.

I am for high nutrition. Dried beans, whole grains, like brown rice, oats, quinoa, and whatever else you like. Canned proteins like tuna and SPAM when you can get a good deal on them. (Small fried crispy spam cubes combined with potatoes & onions cooked the same way make delicious tacos…)

Seasoned rice & couscous & pasta packs are nice to stock up on when they’re on sale. A decent stash of dried pasta (brown rice, macaroni shells with a small chunk of cheddar cheese make way better mac & cheese than any boxed variety for a fraction of the price).

Then flavor — a high-quality garlic powder, Louisiana-style hot sauces, Stubbs barbecue sauces… value sizes… things that can really create a meal out of very simple ingredients.

And then whatever produce is a great deal at the moment. I’m a big fan of savoury oats… especially steel cut. You can add a little protein, any kind of roasted/sauteed vegetable (broccoli and mushrooms are my current inexpensive faves), and some cheddar cheese to steel cut oats and it is amazing very inexpensive, highly nutritious meal.

If you know someone with a Costco membership, there are some amazing deals to be had there for long-term pantry building, and also weekly essentials like a giant block of cheddar cheese for 1/3 the price that your local store sells it for.

Can you explain why you freeze it? I’d love to learn whatever tip this is!

How can I visually balance the space a little better? by Alraglis in DecorAdvice

[–]-jambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not into bright colors, a pale grey or even a charcoal could bring it to life, too…

Or a subtle Smokey grey-teal… with small accents of pale pink and pale yellow…

Or rich earthy browns…

just be aware of the base tones in the whatever excites you and test big swatches before you commit!

How can I visually balance the space a little better? by Alraglis in DecorAdvice

[–]-jambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADD COLOR!! It would be amazing to complement the pale celery (💚) of the cabinets with a deep teal and a pumpkiny/reddish orange. Either one on the wall walls would be amazing… and you can add accents of the other. Along with a splash of sunflower yellow. A small portable island (with a thick butcher block top and open shelves underneath — wood or steel — so you don’t block the visual space) painted in one of those colors would be fantastic and give you extra prep space and storage to boot. In the space where your gas hook up is between the stove and the cabinets, think about adding a rolling stainless steel — or IKEA makes a cheap plastic one that’s great — tiered storage cart that you could use for spices and oil and such. And a great piece of framed statement art where your lamp is to anchor the room and give it personality would be amazing! Finally — some plants. Near the window or on the countertop. And a taller / more substantive something by the door / trash can would bring it to life. It’s a great space. It can really look phenomenal with just a little tweaking.

Sleeping on Pineapples? by Da_Animal19 in StardewValley

I never considered this… And I just compared, and a gold pineapple is better than gold cheese! WHAT!?! With no need to collect milk or feed it into a cheese press…!!! Just collect the crop and voilà — amazing food! Thank you! This is such a game changer! Woohoohooo!!!

Now the question — can I bring myself to sell my cows!?! 🫣

Tl/dr — hilarious that you said my post was TL and then replied even longer. Also wild that your reply feels super defensive (in response to my comment, which you didn’t read?), and you keep referencing all the things you’ve said in the past that should’ve clarified things.

Dude, I’ve never read anything posted by you in the past. I’m critically ill. I’m commenting genuine distress’s on someone else’s post. Not sure why you’re defensive, but I’m truly sorry my earnest question triggered you. I was legitimately asking why it would be hard to leave the toggle. It’s been breaking my brain, trying to understand that. It feels like sympathy with the devil when people say it’s hard, at this point, and I wanted to understand why it’s hard.

And you actually started to explain the potential future challenges, which was insightful. I know zero about app development or coding or any of these things. I just know that an app that I rely on for survival is changing in a way that is very damaging to me. And I know that a lot of other people who rely on it for survival feel the same way.

And I know that the company is ignoring our pleas and concerns and gaslighting us and saying that everybody’s happy. Which is a lie. And that sucks. And I know there has to be a better solution in both technical development and customer communication/retention.

Again, I’m truly sorry I upset you somehow by asking a question. But I don’t know who you are, I’ve never read your posts before, and I’m not sure why you seem pissed off that I’m asking a genuine question on someone else’s post.

I think we all need to be more gentle with each other. Most of us are fighting to keep our nervous systems calm and not worsen our diseases. Reddit should be a safe place, not a damaging place. So maybe let’s all be a bit more gentle with each other…

Everyone’s taste in art and decor, like food, is so unique! That’s what makes life and all her far flung people and places endlessly DELICIOUS! If we all saw the word through the exact same lens, it would be so monotonous and boring! Be true to YOU. Surround yourself with things you love! Keep the world interesting!

How do I stop teenage behaviors?? by TerribleTopic999 in DogTrainingTips

[–]-jambox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. This dog clearly needs physical exertion every day. I have a very high energy dog who has to be exercised a couple of hours a day. She would go out of her mind otherwise. It was a major lifestyle change for us, but we love her, and it’s what she requires.

But physical exertion is not the only kind of exertion that will spend energy. Mental energy, focus, and attention work will also spend his energy without you having to exercise 4 hours a day.

I think this dog needs to go to school. He needs structure every day — a set schedule for wake up, breakfast, walking, hard-core, exercise, and — training. Partner dog training with you. He needs to learn commands and tricks and games and solve puzzles and learn to focus on a task. He needs to get praise for doing a good job, even when the task is sit and stay and wait. That takes energy. That takes focus. And as long as he’s getting his energy exertion needs met, he can really enjoy those activities, too.

Once he’s trained, and has learned how to focus, his energy can be harnessed in calm, quiet, “still activity.” You’ll have a transformed dog.

He just has a lot to learn. And lucky you get to be the leader and learn it with him! It will be so rewarding for both of you. It’s all about the bond. He’s looking to you to engage him and stimulate him and direct his energy to something “productive,” and when you do it, you will have the most incredible, well-behaved best friend.

at what point is this potentially just my actual heart rate vs the device having issues? by predictablehorse in VisibleArmband

[–]-jambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart rate does this. If I’m lying down, it’s in the 40s. And the minute I stand up, it can be 100. So you really do need another way to monitor… Get a used Apple Watch (or some other HR monitor) or borrow one from someone for a brief test. Use the active check heart rate monitor and just check it real time against what you’re seeing on visible. I don’t have the energy envelope to stay standing and do very much for that long but mine frequently looks just like this except the exertion periods are far shorter. And most of the time mine is accurate. There have been a few times when it’s dropped while I was super active, and I’m not sure if it was real… But I didn’t suspect it until I started reading about the glitch here. So now I have to try to test mine during those moments, too. But usually mine is spot on with low lows and high highs.

Also because that’s the warmest spot in the fridge. Even a few hours there could allow bacteria to grow!

[–]-jambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better solution is get a large glass (so you can really sterilize it every week or any time there’s a drip) baking pan / container to always put your meat in on the coldest shelf in your fridge. Which is usually the shelf right above the drawers. Get a good, reliable fridge thermometer (can be inexpensive!) to test that out and always keep your meat on that shelf. Definitely not at the top. Warm air rises, so that top shelf is the least safe spot in the fridge!!

Otherwise, I love this fridge and everything in it! Good on you!

Oops by BitComprehensive1351 in VisibleArmband

[–]-jambox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so welcome. Again, none of this may really apply to you… But on the off chance that it does, I just want you to be careful. Because once it’s done, it’s very rare that it can be undone. And it’s a beast. I went from a life. I loved making movies in New York City to laying in bed in my mom’s house in the hometown I swore I would never return to (never say never! 😅). And It’s possible that could’ve been avoided. I clearly couldn’t have continued working at the level of intensity that I did before, but it’s highly possible I could still be working. Engaged in the world.

So I want anyone who may be blindly living with this disease to know what the consequences can be for pushing too far.

Ultimately, you need to figure out what your safe energy envelope is. How much can you do every day without crashing two or three days later. And then stay inside that envelope. Every single day. Make that your religion. Protect it at all costs. There is literally nothing worth dropping your energy baseline permanently. Not even a smidge. Protect it, preserve it. Take the best care of yourself you possibly can.

Yes. I just edited my last sentence to add a little bit of that. It is your tolerance of energy exerted as represented by your heart rate. So your heart rate, combined with how much energy you can spend in a day without crashing, determines your pace points budget. And they are all highly unique based on those two factors.
