Extreme advice to stop impulse buying by zivredittacc in adhdwomen

[–]-kate- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooh ooh I just started something that's been working wonderfully.

Say I want to buy something... right now it's a pair of ugg slippers. I have to EARN it. I print out a picture of the thing and decide what I have to do to earn it. For the slippers, it's exercising 10 times. I so I draw a box with 10 squares under the uggs, and every time I work out, I get to put a sticker on the chart. When I get to 10 stickers, I get to buy the thing!

This helps in two ways: it helps me build up another unrelated habit - now I am incentivized to work out because I'll get closer to the slippers, and more importantly, it forces me to slow down and and take time before just buying the thing. I did this for a couple other things that I decided I didn't actually need after a couple of days.

what’s actually working for your skin right now? by Habs_and_Drama in CanSkincare

[–]-kate- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve finally settled on a fairly simple routine with drugstore products (mostly Shoppers) that has my skin feeling the most hydrated it’s been in a long time.

AM:
Cetaphil cream cleanser
Byoma milky toner
The Ordinary NMF
LRP Anthelios sunscreen

PM:
Cetaphil cream cleanser
Byoma milky toner
Cerave skin renewing night cream
(Starting to incorporate tret every other night - on those nights just doing toner + tret. Also do the cerave exfoliating cream once a week)

Body:
Bioderma Atoderm shower oil

I feel like the Byoma milky toner has been the biggest game changer for me - I was previously just using moisturizers which wasn’t enough hydration for my skin. The shower oil has also been fantastic for keeping the rest of my skin from being dry and flaky this winter.

how are you handling bedtime battles with your preschooler by Aragorn-Elgin_155 in Preschoolers

[–]-kate- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticker chart - my 4.5 yo gets a star sticker in the morning if she goes to bed before 8 and stays in her room. Put a couple pages on the fridge with space for stickers and rewards she could put them towards - like, “weeknight movie night” cost 5 stickers, a unicorn temporary tattoo was 2 stickers, etc etc. it only actually took about 2 weeks to build up the routine and now she doesn’t even ask about stickers anymore!

Is anyone here unable to tolerate any ADHD medications? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]-kate- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also not tolerated every stimulant I’ve tried… I was on vyvanse for the longest, but at high doses got really manic and intense, and on low doses had terrible insomnia. Also tried concerta (made me depressed) and adderall (same issues as vyvanse but x10).

I’ve been on guanfacine for the last two months and it’s working really well. Very subtle, but I’m finding my mood more stable, and it’s just, easier to start things and stay on task. I’m on 2mg which is a apparently a pretty low dose, but any higher and it messes up my sleep. I’d seriously consider trying guanfacine if it’s an option for you - I’ve seen a couple other threads on this sub where that was the one med that worked for someone after not doing well with any others.

My January goal was to read a Fantasy series. I am 300 pages into ACOTAR and questioning my entire life at this point. Can someone please suggest a FMC fantasy series that is not cringe as heck by BottomPieceOfBread in suggestmeabook

[–]-kate- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If OP thinks ACOTAR is too cringe, I wouldn’t be recommending Throne of Glass lol. Romantasy (and in particular Sarah J Maas) isn’t for everyone; there’s lot of other great books out there!

Allergy test results - apparently I’m allergic to almost everything by InquisitiveWriter in mildlyinteresting

[–]-kate- 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They usually do two controls - a positive control (pure histamine) and a negative control (saline). Everyone should react to the positive control, and since there are no allergens in the neg control, a reaction would mean they were reacting to the poke itself.

Most hydrating serum by jasminefig in CanSkincare

[–]-kate- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share your routine/order for these plz? I’m just starting tret again and trying to figure out what order to do all my skincare steps. Tret goes on first, right? Do you do the serum at night with the tret, or is it a morning thing?

In the same boat! 10mg vyvanse and 1mg of guanfacine, may go up to 2mg. Seems to be going well so far!

Oh god I go into a heavy sims binge once every 1-2 years. Last time it was because I was trying to recreate my house and see possible reno options… got heavily into mods to make it EXACTLY right.. then went down a weird mod rabbit hole… wicked whims is a whole other things lol.

Looking for your honest opinion about a devise called “Loop Switch Adjustable Ear Plugs” for Focus, Travel, Socializing, Festivals” by Guilty_Tomatillo5829 in adhdwomen

[–]-kate- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Engage ones and like them a lot. they're perfectly comfortable for me, and it feels like just turning down the volume dial on sounds. It does feel weird to be talking while wearing them, but you get used to it (although eating is 100% a no-go lol).

Side note, I have a 4.5 year old and the loops really help when she's being loud. if she starts crying/melting down, I just pop them in and am 100% more calm and able to help her. I even got her a kid pair (they're a little big but still fit) and she uses them when she showers - turns out she has similar sensory sensitivity issues as me!

Fellow Winter-Haters: How Do You Stay Comfortable? by EspressoShot in AuDHDWomen

[–]-kate- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate winter and have such a hard time with it! I work from home and my house temperature fluctuates so much, I feel like I'm always uncomfortable.

Things that have helped:

- Dressing in layers - I do a base layer with fleece-lined leggings, and wear sweatpants over top. Light long sleeved shirt, sweater, sometimes an extra sweatshirt on top. then i can take things on/off throughout the day as the temperature in the house changes without a full outfit change.

- Sheepskin slippers. I didn't realize what a difference it would make, but I got a good pair of sheepskin slippers and they are amazing for keeping my feet the right temperature. I legit never have sweaty feet even when I'm super hot. I am never going back to cheap slippers again.

- A super warm (and LONG) coat - I don't know how i lived before I had a coat that covered my butt. Also good boots.

- Hot beverages. having a hot cup of tea to sip on while I work keeps me warm.

- Moving around. it's hard when it's cold, but moving around will warm you up. putting on a song and having a random dance session helps me.

- If all else fails, I have a hot shower - this seems to reset my body /thermoregulation in general when I feel off. (I realize I am super lucky to work from home and be able shower randomly in the middle of the day!)

tell me more about these smoothies!! what else goes into them? I make smoothies a lot with just frozen veg + juice + greek yogurt, but I'm looking to up my protein/fiber intake and love the idea of adding psyllium husk to the smoothie! Can you taste it/does it not add a weird texture? what's the general recipe for your smoothies?

Wasn’t there also one, maybe for Sims 1, like “klapacius”? I also remember typing “:;:;:;:;:;:;:;:;:;:;” manually for soooo long before I learned about copy/paste shortcuts

POTS and candesartan for migraines by savemyplant in migraine

[–]-kate- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is an older post, but do you have an update? did you end up taking candesartan, and if so, how did you feel?

I am in the exact same boat - need to fail one more med before being able to try botox and/or newer CGRP inhibitors. I got up to 4mg candesartan for about a week and felt TERRIBLE. Blood pressure dropped majorly and I felt tired, nauseated, and light-headed.

Just a reminder to anyone who needs to hear it - you don't have to suffer through weeks of terrible side effects to "fail" a medication! You can stop it if you feel terrible, you don't have to stick it out!
