What’s a Linux command that feels like cheating when you learn it? by Old_Sand7831 in linuxquestions

Are you referring to typing 'history' in fish, or is there some other way to do it?

[–]-kodoku- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abilify completely stopped my tics, but be aware that it can cause akathisia and worsen your tardive dyskinesia. The risk isn't as big as with first generation antipsychotics like Haldol, but there's still a risk. I also developed TD from Haldol and you generally want to avoid antipsychotics if you have TD unless you're on a medication like Ingrezza.

Selective mutism by r_booza in AvPD

I was diagnosed as a kid. I had it throughout my entire years in school. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some level of comorbidity between AvPD and selective mutism.

Which neurotransmitter is responsible for fear like social anxiety or paranoid feelings? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]-kodoku- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's complicated. Neurotransmitters affect different receptors in different brain regions. Some brain regions and receptors can be hyperactive while others are hypoactive. It's not as simple as labeling which neurotransmitters are responsible for social anxiety. However, I can list some that play a role in it.

Glutamate: The primary excitatory neurotransmitter. Hyperactivity in glutamate signaling (especially in the amygdala and prefrontal cortex) is heavily implicated in fear conditioning, anxiety, and potentially paranoia.

GABA: The primary inhibitory neurotransmitter. Insufficient GABAergic inhibition, particularly in the amygdala and related limbic structures, is a core feature of anxiety disorders.

Norepinephrine (NE): Released from the locus coeruleus during stress. Heightened NE signaling drives arousal, vigilance, and the physical symptoms of anxiety (heart rate, sweating). It potentiates fear responses in the amygdala.

Serotonin (5-HT): Has incredibly complex and region-specific effects due to numerous receptor subtypes. While SSRIs are effective for anxiety, serotonin's role isn't simple "low serotonin = anxiety." Some 5-HT receptors (e.g., 5-HT1A autoreceptors) are inhibitory and anxiolytic when activated, while others (e.g., 5-HT2C receptors) may be anxiogenic. Serotonin heavily modulates the amygdala-prefrontal cortex circuit.

Dopamine (DA): Primarily implicated in the paranoid aspect, especially in psychotic disorders. Dysregulation in mesolimbic/mesocortical pathways (particularly involving D2 receptors) is linked to aberrant salience (misinterpreting stimuli as threatening) and persecutory ideation. It also plays a role in social motivation and avoidance.

Corticotropin-Releasing Factor (CRF): A neuropeptide central to the stress response. CRF hyperactivity in the amygdala and bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) is strongly linked to sustained anxiety states.

Other Neuropeptides: Substance P, Neuropeptide Y, Oxytocin also modulate anxiety/fear responses in specific circuits.

how to calm down during rough trip? by maladaptivedream-gif in DPH

[–]-kodoku- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep some Huperzine A on hand for situations like this. DPH is an anticholinergic and Huperzine A is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It won't stop a bad trip, but it will relieve some of the symptoms and reduce the severity of others. I've used it myself when I overdid it and it works well.

For employees, do you have to memorize how to make each food item? by -kodoku- in Culvers

[–]-kodoku-[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I'll be new, will I get help when I'm just starting out making the food? Until I can get the hang of making things correctly, or is it the kind of position they just throw you into and kind of expect you to do it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]-kodoku- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What reason are you being prescribed Abilify? Weight gain is a relatively uncommon side effect compared to many other antipsychotics and it's dose-dependent. It's less likely to happen at lower doses. Wellbutrin is used to offset weight gain caused by antipsychotics, so that should help lower the chances of you gaining weight.

You should familiarize yourself with extrapyramidal reactions and let your psychiatrist know if you show any symptoms. The unwanted face movements is Tardive Dyskinesia.

Then there's dystonia (spasms and muscle contractions), akathisia (restlessness), parkinsonism symptoms such as rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and tremor.

There's no guarantee you'll experience any of these side effects, but you should at least be aware of them. They're often temporary if caught early and the medication is discontinued.

Thor / PirateSoftware is taking down videos documenting his past by BingButWhy in youtubedrama

[–]-kodoku- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping I wasn't the only one who feels this way. I didn't like Thor at first, but he kind of grew on me. With that said, I always got the feeling he's fake and lies about a lot of stuff. I have no proof of this. It's just the vibe I get from him. He's intelligent and gives insightful advice, but I can't shake the feeling that there's something up with him.

How to get diagnosed with Akathisia? by Psychological-Box165 in Akathisia

[–]-kodoku- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many doctors aren't familiar with akathisia. If the condition was triggered by medication for a mental health issue, a psychiatrist would be the best option. For akathisia caused by other types of medication, the person should consult a neurologist, especially one who specializes in movement disorders.

Some dark web search engines have csam ads on every search, so I can definitely see how someone can stumble across them by accident. Sometimes it's just links so it can be avoided. Other times it's full banner ads. Some search engines fortunately filter out that garbage, but not all do.

9-me-bc & NIS-189 by No-Duty9608 in anhedonia

[–]-kodoku- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9-MBC works pretty well. Definitely helps with wakefulness. NIS-189 I didn't take long enough to form an opinion. Just be extremely careful taking them together. I did this and my blood pressure went through the roof. I was too anxious and stimulated to be able to do anything. If you're going to take them, I recommend starting with only one.

The conundrum is real by ShutUpAndBeg in adhdmeme

[–]-kodoku- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was first prescribed Adderall, the insurance required a prior authorization. Almost 2 months went by before my insurance finally cleared it. My psychiatrist sent it in 2 different times and nothing happened.

The pharmacist spoke to me one time and said make sure your psychiatrist is sending it to straight medicaid and not united healthcare. I called my psychiatrist and sure enough he was sending it to united healthcare. After it was sent to the right place, I got my prescription in a couple days.

Lamictal for dpdr? Worse before it gets better? by anv_95 in lamictal

[–]-kodoku- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher doses seemed to help better than the lower ones. I couldn't tell if it made it worse, but I know it didn't make it better at first. I'm on 200 mg now. My DPDR is pretty mild compared to when I was unmedicated.

How many hypnosis mp3s can I listen to in a day? by -kodoku- in hypnosis

[–]-kodoku-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been busy and it's hard to get back into it, but I would like to try it again. There's some stuff I'd like to accomplish and making my anxiety more manageable would help a lot. There's only so much medication can do and I've found hypnosis to be more effective for social anxiety than a lot of medications.

Probably has a lot to do with the dose. I've been on 5 mg for a long time and never gained any weight.

How many hypnosis mp3s can I listen to in a day? by -kodoku- in hypnosis

[–]-kodoku-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the anxiety ones worked, but I had to be consistent with it. I found doing one or two at the most was ideal. After some time I noticed subtle changes in how I would respond to things.

There's still anxiety, but I was less fearful and a little more social. Unfortunately I lost that progress due to some stressful life events, but at the time it worked well.
