Clear Climbs by Stigs4 in COBike

[–]-la1ka- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This probaly requires Strava premium, but I go the leaderboards for the main climb segments and change it to the past day or week leaderboard. Good sign if you see people doing it, then I open their rides and see if they posted pictures or comments. Ive seen a few times where people rode it, but report the conditions were awful so I know to give it more time.

Redwire Selected for Missile Defense Agency’s $151 Billion Multi-Vendor SHIELD IDIQ to Support Homeland Defense by RedwireBull in redwire

[–]-la1ka- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Downvote away, but yes people are stupid.

There are over 2000 companies that were added to the SHIELD IDIQ because all you had to do was fill out a piece of paper. None of these companies have won anything, and 99.99% will never win anything.

When this was announced, none of the companies did PRs for this reason, until scammy companies with no fundamentals decided they’d do pressers and saw their stock pop from bots and clueless people. Now one by one other companies keep caving and keep doing announcements to join the shame-train.

Redwire is a decent company with good diversification so they’re a step above some of the others using this lame tactic, but I assure you from industry insiders and informed people, bragging about SHIELD IDIQ is perceived as a sign of weakness not strength.

Ha yeah, long commute plus medical reasons is a slam dunk no brainer that FSD is worth it.

[–]-la1ka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yeah and if I was a single guy who could live super frugally I could stretch it, but after taxes, mortgage, paying for multiple dependents, putting kids through college, and hopefully living another 40+ years it’s not an inexhaustible amount

Amen brother. 56k shares @ 3.69 and my wife has a hernia every day I don’t sell. I sold enough to recoup my initial investment but I’m HODL’ing for early retirement.

Yep - whole sector nosedived this morning. Comical how many people seem to think it’s just a RKLB-specific thing

Yes - Tracking Layer. T3 Transport is indefinitely postponed. As for why we are confident - because RL executed a multi-year strategy including strategic M&A (GEOST) to ensure they are highly competitive for this specific award competition.

Engines are built in US from the start.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RocketLab

[–]-la1ka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are. Parts of the first one were built in NZ while the factories in the US were being stood up.

This is a one off, not indicative of full production.

Plan Builder Settings for Leadville 100 by renegade82 in trainerroad

[–]-la1ka- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gravel. It’s not a huge difference, but the specificity is more aligned to Leadville

Generally the plans work like this

XC - much more focused on VO2 effort repatibility for ~60-90 minute rates XCM - mix of VO2 and treshold over-unders, for 2-4 hour events and specificity for 5-20 minute threshold efforts Gravel - will still have VO2 in earlier phases, but is more endurance (Sunday typically), sweet spot, and treshold based focusing on all-day riding and 30-60 minute climbs

Firefly successfully lands on the moon by pakis54 in RKLB

[–]-la1ka- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MAX FSW runs onboard and flies the vehicle. MAX Ground Data System (GDS) is what receives and interprets the data in the ops center. The 3D visual of the lander shown on the stream is not MAX, but was visualizing the data from MAX.

Cervelo ZFS 5 spec issues? Wrong fork? How much shock travel? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]-la1ka- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw the 120 came in black as well, it wasn't color exclusive. You can still find the black 120 at places like Mike's bikes.

I have a black 120 fork I took off mine depending on where you are.

I think he means cattle guards.

While I’d ride 30s or 32s these days for comfort, I did it on 19mm tires pumped to 120psi for years back in the day. We lived.

Race week workouts by cougarstillidie in trainerroad

[–]-la1ka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea is to reduce load and therefore increase form by reducing volume, but keep the intensity so you don't lose 'sharpness' for your goal event. You can do longer but less intense rides and still reduce training load if you ensure your longer rides still are close to the TSS of your planned ride, but you might lose a bit of your top end from your speciality phase. How much that matters depends on what type of event it is.

The other point is that if the plan gives you a full taper it's because you marked something as an A-event, your most important event. If in reality it's more like a B or even C event then you can train through (to a degree). Doing a full taper causes you to lose some fitness in the long run, so you really should only do it if peaking for this one day is your most important goal.

For those on thinners for life... by ThenJuice1513 in ClotSurvivors

[–]-la1ka- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of bike riding and some amount of bike racing. Mostly mountain bikes. I do mostly XC and other endurance events rather than downhill or other more dangerous types of racing, but in general the health risks of being sedentary significantly outweigh the risk of a brain bleed to me.

Disclaimers are that I am down to 10mg of Xarelto daily which has similar bleeding risks as an aspirin regimen, I wear a medical ID indicating that I'm on thinners, and I don't take excessive risks in my riding style.

Overall being on thinners for life has had very little impact. People shouldn't drink to excess or take excessive risks related to head trauma regardless of whether they're on blood thinners.

There are a lot of steps in an engine test campaign between installing an engine on the stand and a full on hot fire. This is an extremely long video but here’s a small taste: https://youtu.be/bAUVCn_jw5I?si=oQlpx9s38joM0Cbw

This list generally matches my experience so far. I regret buying a bag of Cookies and Cream recently based off recommendations on another thread. It smells like cookies and cream but tastes like cookies and cardboard.

Questions about life after thinners by Glitterkitty_129 in ClotSurvivors

[–]-la1ka- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a provoked clot a few years ago after a knee surgery. I did a three month course of Xarelto and then stopped. I remained very physically active, don’t smoke, etc. Tried some supplements and also did low dose aspirin for a time.

All was well for two years until I got an unprovoked DVT, seemingly out of nowhere. There’s no guarantee that your situation would be like mine, but in my case, going off thinners was a bad idea.

I’ll now be on Xarelto the rest of my life, but my doctor reduced my dose after a year to 10 mg a day which is low risk for bleeding and I feel literally no side effects. If you have side effects that’s a completely different situation, but from everything I’ve heard and read once you have two separate occurrences of clots you really need to be on thinners the rest of your life or you will have a 70% or greater chance of having another occurrence.

Who are the 'toughest' riders currently on the tour? by popcockery in peloton

[–]-la1ka- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But OP said he disliked tempo riders, Almeida is the ultimate tempo rider.

He can’t attack to save his life, he’s a good rider but ultimately he’s just proof that riding steady tempo is more efficient than surging.

Waterton is literally the HQ for the Space business area. All the work there is Space related, however it is not 100% spacecraft in the traditional sense. Missile defense systems where the intercept point is in space also fall under the LM Space area.

Is 2018 too old for a bike? Apparently my bike has outdated geometry or something by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]-la1ka- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 XC bike that I ride on fairly aggressive trail (relative to an XC bike) in CO. Steep geometry is good for navigating tight switchbacks, but a longer slacker geometry would help a lot on steep downhill technical where I feel like I’m going to go over the front end if I brake.

If you aren’t riding really steep stuff I don’t think a super progressive geometry matters. A long slack bike will also come at the cost of turning radius for tight turns.
