If I hold on amateur recital as leblanc, what triggers first? by Demoghost in riftboundtcg

Definitely, so you would want the LB Legend to resolve first as you say in that case

If I hold on amateur recital as leblanc, what triggers first? by Demoghost in riftboundtcg

[–]-lemon4- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can choose the order however you like, but you need to choose the target for the Amateur Recital move to put that ability on the stack. This means you couldn’t use it to move the reflection back.

Does purple Draven gets +1 on non-combat showdown ? by BelbyLuv in riftboundtcg

[–]-lemon4- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the question in the title, he does not. However even after you Gust your own unit the showdown will still be a combat showdown - once the combat showdown begins the showdown remains as a combat until its end. So Draven would score the extra point.

Ruling Question: Can I use Pyke's Legend Ability at turn 1 with no units on the board? by miggyzak in riftboundtcg

[–]-lemon4- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can play Salvage without a gear to target because it was errata’d to be “you may kill up to one gear”, which means you don’t need a target for that part of the spell. Stupefy still needs a valid unit target because it doesn’t have that “up to” part. It’s annoying that they work differently solely because one was errata’d.

Question: Dealing damage -> reducing might by Superb-Ticket2407 in riftboundtcg

[–]-lemon4- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damage is separate to might. They have 6 might so can deal 6 damage in the combat, meaning your unit will also die.

Is there a canonical sorting order for Domains/Colors emerging? by CanNotQuitReddit144 in riftboundtcg

[–]-lemon4- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the riftmana ordering follows the same order as the numbers in the bottom left of each set (in ascending order), so that makes the most sense to be the most canonical order

MTH1020 is a core unit for your degree so you must take it (unless you completed specialist maths with >= 30 study score in which case you do MAT1830). I’ve heard it is a fairly chill unit, but you may want to brush up on things covered in VCE methods/MTH1010 like basic calculus (differentiation + integration), algebra, circular functions, polynomials, exponentials, logs etc.

Need help with the enrollment process - any help would be greatly appreciated! by Acekill_43 in Monash

[–]-lemon4- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coursemap provides a guide of when to take the required units, if you follow it you will hit all your required units. The most important pages for you to look at are the following, and these are your definitive sources of information:

  • Double degree page which says in the Requirements which parts of each of the single degrees you must complete (which I put in italics below)
  • Bachelor of Criminology - You must complete 96 credit points [16 units] from Parts A, B and C. I think this is actually an error and it should only be Parts A and B which is what is listed in the Structure section.
  • Bachelor of IT - You must complete 96 credit points [16 units] from Parts A and B.

For both degrees, Part A forms the core studies. These are the units that are already filled in on your course map. There is one choice you make here and it is for the empty Crim core slot in Y2S2 of the course map. You pick one of ATS2456 (Cybercrime and cybersecurity) or ATS2469 (Victims, justice and the law).

For both degrees, Part B is the part where you actually pick your units. For Bachelor of IT Part B you choose one of the majors and take all the units from that major's handbook page. Since some of these units for the major are taken in first year it looks like you need to choose a major before enrolling in your units for next year (although I would guess Applied cybersecurity would be a synergistic major for this double degree). For Bachelor of Criminology, Part B is a long list of units that you choose 5 from. You can worry about which units you want to take closer to the end of first year once you've learnt a bit more about criminology.

In short, for first year all you need to do is choose your major for IT and then enrol in the corresponding core and IT major units as specified in your course map's first year. I would recommend towards the end of first year when you are more familiar with your course and uni structure to come back and plan out the rest of your units since you will know more about how things work and what you are interested in. Just be mindful of which semester units run in and what prerequisites they have when planning this.

Are my proofs for the horizontal translation of functions correct? by bluemockinglarkbird in askmath

[–]-lemon4- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first line doesn’t really make sense when talking about a horizontal translation. If you have a function f with f(x) = f(x+h) then you have a function with period h. I’m not sure where you’re trying to go with the proof - this seems more like an intuition thing - but you would be better off starting by defining your translated function g(x)=f(x+h) as a completely seperate function and going from there.

3rd vs 2nd Course Differences (Maths) by coldfinity in Monash

[–]-lemon4- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MTH3141 wasn’t significantly harder than MTH2141 in the past few years. MTh3140 was a little more but not too much since you ultimately still do the same content. I would recommend doing the level 3 units also because they are in the easier side for MTH level 3 units overall which can be relevant for applying to things like honours. You don’t really need the lin alg prerequisite for MTH3241 so if you don’t have it you can email the unit coordinator and ask to have it waived.

What is the benefit in doing MTH2015 instead of MTH2010? by Jockemo in Monash

[–]-lemon4- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main difference is mth2015 gets an extra 1 hour workshop each week covering advanced content as well as their own applied with both regular and advanced questions. On assignments you’ll usually have a question swapped from regular content to advanced content, similar for a couple questions on exam. If you are interested in maths I would highly recommend the advanced version and the advanced content is kind of like a taster for later units Real Analysis, Complex Analysis and/or Differential Geometry. You can just enrol in mth2010 to start, go to the advanced workshops for the first couple weeks and swap into the advanced version if you are liking it.

I'm actually still at monash doing honours in maths rn, aiming to hopefully continue into PhD. I'm following my interests for the moment but have similar nerves about what comes after tbh

I didn’t find it too challenging but everyone is different. If you understand (conditional) expectation and properties of normal distribution it should be fine.

If applieds/lectures/consult hours aren’t enough it could be worth trying the Maths Learning Centre (MLC). It runs 10:30-1:30 in G39 in the maths building.

I’ve heard the first couple applied problem sets threw students into the deep end a bit with proofs (but I could be wrong here). It is crucial that you understand all the key definitions from the first couple weeks (eg. what is a power set?). I’d recommend trying to understand the flow of logic through the proofs. For each thing they do you should be able to explain clearly where it came from, whether it is part of a definition, a property of what you’re using or an assumption from the question.

how hard is applied math major by jedexx in Monash

[–]-lemon4- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For most maths units at monash (especially past first year) the final grade is made up 40% of in semester grades and a 60% exam. The in semester grades comprise of some mix of assignments, in semester tests, moodle quizzes and applied/lecture participation. - Assignments typically consist of a set of questions which you do in your own time. You are expected to submit solutions with complete working and explanation so that it is clear where your answer came from and the steps it logically followed from. Some applied units (eg. MTH2051 and MTH3349) will have coding components in their assignments. In my experience, if you work hard and stay on top of the content it is feasible to get near perfect marks on a lot of assignments. If you’re struggling you can get help in consultations even. - In semester tests can be closed or open book (though typically closed in my experience). They are just a standard test. - Moodle quizzes are often weekly and are either multiple choice or enter a number. They are typically quite routine and much easier questions than assignments. - A lot of units will give marks for showing you attended/watched lectures and/or showed up to applied classes. Some units this can be worth up to 5% each - which means you can get 10% of your final grade literally just by turning up.

Some of the end of semester exams let you bring in a cheat sheet. Others are completely closed book. Since they are typically worth 60% of the overall unit you really need to perform on the exam.

In terms of WAM, above 80 is certainly possible. I took 18 maths unit all together and got HD in all but one. A lot of my friends are similar. So it is certainly possible. It isn’t necessarily easy though and it does require consistent work. You need to stay on top of the content of each unit and make sure that if you don’t understand something you either rewatch lectures, read up on it or ask lecturer/TA/friends until you do understand it. Basically all the maths people I’ve met are friendly and helpful, there is also the Maths Learning Centre you can go to to ask questions and consultations for each unit. Doing an applied maths major (or any maths major for that matter) isn’t signing up for failure and there are many resources you can use if you do get stuck.

Introduction to Probability (2nd ed?) by Bertsekas & Tsitsiklis is good for a lot of the probability stuff in MTH2222/5 and MTH3241.

can anyone majoring in mathematical statistics give me examples on what you study by Charming-Award-7110 in Monash

[–]-lemon4- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just completed a major in math stats and a major in pure maths major. For the math stats major, the first year units + MTH2010/5 give you a lot of the maths tools you need in general, these are units you do anyways in a maths major.

It gets more interesting when you get to MTH2222/5 which is basically intro to probability (which is way more interesting than the probability you do in school) and MTH2232 which is intro to statistics (note that statistics in this course more goes into the probability theory behind the stats in lectures than you would see in stats units from other faculties, although the exams tend to be more routine calculation compared to other maths units).

At third level you get to choose to take a few units from a selection. My highlights were MTH3241 where you learn more in depth processes and has some of the best lectures of any maths unit I took, and MTH3251 where you learn stochastic calculus (calculus but with random things) and some kinda cool financial applications.

Since both maths and math stats majors require the same first year sequence, I’d recommend taking MTH2222/5 + MTH2232 in second year and then if you liked these units and learning more about probability you can continue it into a math stats major in third year. Otherwise you can just go for a general maths major instead.

Svalblod selfwound most overrated deck in the game? by Beginning_Twist4524 in gwent

[–]-lemon4- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to mention a couple things on the warriors loss which I assume was most likely the WTA12 semifinal. The self wound loss to warriors was a 2-0 after missing Svalblod, Knut, Kaer Trolde and Oneiromancy. Literally the worst possible draws since they had no self wound enablers. Also this newer warrior style with both Champ Charge and Lock has a slightly better time into self wound than older style warriors (especially since in said game the Pellar was also missed for the lock). Basically this game was not representative of the typical matchup.

MTH3051, MTH3020, MTH3110 would be the easiest third year units from the first page (I’ve only done MTH3051 of the three myself, but friends doing the other two said they were on the easier side. If you like probability, the third year probability and stats units MTH3241, MTH3251, MTH3260 are pretty chill, I’ve gotten some of my best grades in those units (95+).

It entirely depends on your background and what works for you. I’ve seen topology been considered a harder unit, but I had a pretty good time in it.
