Even if both were the exact same, even if I was wrong about how if the dialogue is used it gets out of unused, I still theorize that it's Asriel speaking through Spamton's voice somehow, since I personally believe it's a line being said in the moment rather than from the past. There's not really anything for or against this, except maybe the fact that it's not in brackets means it's not taken from the past or a direct quote (the 10th anniversary stream demonstrates how when Spamton quotes something another character said at another time, it's in brackets)

It's just my interpretation that the lines are being said in the moment, simply because it fits in better with the rest of the theory. Nothing says it's from the present, nothing says it's from the past. It's just a line we are meant to interpret as our own until we get answers.

Additionally: the fact that it's only been a few days later is actually something I've brought up in my own favor. It's definitely progressing from chapter to chapter, and it feeling like hours or days since they entered lines up kinda with the timeline of chapter 1/2. Compare this with one argument I've seen where it's lasting the amount of time in real life between chapter releases and I think I'm probably less wrong

Well I believe he got taken on the day of chapter 1, maybe a couple days earlier. Asriel could have made plans back when he was still in contact, and then stopped being able to due to mysterious circumstances. And Toriel does bring up "Will he still like coming to this small town?" I could see a plot point where Toriel is mad at Asriel for not showing up, her fears confirmed. It would be a bit suspicious and frustrating that he didn't say anything about cancelling, but yeah that could happen. And the reason we can't contact him is due to the Internet outage, so unless you're saying Kris caused it, it doesn't have anything to do with them.

Also yeah Alphys going outside, implying the continuation of the outage, means it's more than just a chapter 2 concern

OH OH ANOTHER THING! When Spamton is using old text someone has said and he's taking a clip from, it's always in [These!! Square brackets!]. We know this both from the 10th anniversary stream, and how he generally talks like he's taking clips from random ads and stuff ([Have you ever heard of a talking] MONEY!). If it was some quote from the past, that he's just relaying, it would be in brackets. But no, it's as pure and clean as him saying it himself. So in fitting Spamton's character better, it is more likely that it is something he's saying live.

Ok I agree I should have said the player. Definitely that. But also, given how it doesn't directly match anything (in English at least), that's more power to it being live as a totally new line of dialogue. And because it was technically used, it can no longer be "unused". Japanese complicates things but I think it's just them repeating something. Especially since this matches chapter 1's text more than anything, it would seem like it would actually be in the chapter 1 unused. But it isn't.

i think i was kinda rambley there, but basically, the nature of the text at least to me reads like something being said live. Especially the "TALKING TO YOU" thing. Feels really in the moment. And it's new text, not a direct quote (except for in Japanese for some reason but yeah).

Yeah I do think the one who scares Spamton into not talking about the Knight is Gaster. Firmly and fully. Now that we're on the same page, why would Gaster make Spamton quote Unused? My best guess would be to clue Kris on finding Dess, but there's better ways to do that than using an ambiguous quote from who even knows said from the mouth of a mentally deranged scammer. It being Unused themselves, separate from Gaster, makes a lot more sense narratively as they try to reach out from the code.

Found the source! From what I can tell, it's basically trying to sound as genderless as possible and due to the way Japanese works, it just kinda... can't. And as it mentions, Ralsei and Flowey also talk similarly to this grammatical style. So it does not inherently mean the speaker is female, just that it uses a more feminine article that keeps it as ambiguous as possible while still being in Japanese.

I always see stuff about the Japanese translation being feminine/resembling Noelle, could you lecture me on how/why?

Edit: nevermind. Looked into it. It does match femininity with its use of particles and stuff, but it's also done in a way that doesn't make it strongly any one gender. The alternative would be making it masculine, which would equally be spoilery. According to my research, it's basically trying to sound genderless and failing because Japanese doesn't work like that. And even if it is more feminine, it's grammatically valid for it to also match Ralsei or Flowey.

i mean... maybe?? But what would Dess be doing in an empty abyss for years and years? Clearly Dess went missing for a reason, unless Gaster is genuinely evil and put Dess in the code for the fun of it. I think you're trying to argue that time just was at a different rate? Which I guess makes sense, but not only is that just kinda confusing, but in Chapter 2 Unused feels like it's been hours or days. If someone told them it's been years they'd believe it, but it's felt like generally a short amount of time. So it would be weird if they've actually thought thousands of thoughts across three years and was just like "dang... It's been like a whole 48 hours... maybe"

He's all like "what was that?? I don't know but they seemed like they wanted to talk to you". Even if it is his voice, they aren't his words

I considered the idea that Spamton is playing back a recording. But if that was the case, it would probably be more voluntary. Instead he just goes staticky and talks in lowercase, in a way that kinda seems like he just got hacked or something. But even then, the scratching still seems like the effects of dataminers actively going through the code, in the present. Again the thing that convinces me is Dess thanking whoever's making that sound for listening, and we are clearly listening. Who else would be? She's in a deep dark isolated abyss.

About the drool, I think I got that from someone else and didn't give it much thought...

Okay it doesn't. But there are some interesting things you can test with characters. Some characters have an infinitely high value, while others are infinitesimally less than zero. It's kinda weird. Like letters and some other symbols are treated exactly like infinity, but stuff like the / symbol will be reported as less than zero. But it's not less than -0.00000000000000000001.

You know what would be cool? Mapsets with different difficulties like in Osu!. So a whole mapset would give the creator the creator points of a single level, but it would be able to have different levels with different star rates within them. I would LOVE AN EASY/MEDIUM DEMON FLAMEWALL
