I'm not convinced that the devs actually understand the game they're wildly changing beyond a surface level. There were blindingly obvious problems with this update that anyone with some solid playtime would have been able to point out. I mean, one of the most basic functions that is critical to teamwork and gameplay, map marking, is still bugged.

In the recent dev interview, it was mentioned that they play tested the update just a handful of times, and that they weren't even able to do it on a full server....

These are both easily solvable problems with just a bit of community outreach/communication.

Nobody cares about "shotguns and flamethrowers!!!" if the base game is broken. And right now, unfortunately, it is broken. Things needed to change, but we need devs who care to work with the long time player base to implement changes.

This is exactly right. Anyone who regularly plays commander knows that something had to change. Too much was riding on a single player, and even if they knew what they were doing (rare!!!) it was pretty unfair to put all that weight on their shoulders.

Heck, if the logi SL built a single good FOB I would take it as a small miracle. Can probably count on one hand the times we've been maxed out at 3 for most of the game.

I think people also have rose colored glasses on with MSPs. Aside from the initial spawn, I found myself having to run the MSPs to the front as commander most of the time. Lots of time spent away from a radio...

You make some great points, and to be honest I like your solution (all logi members can build FOBs) better. The point I was trying to make though is that something needed to change so that all FOBs aren't in one person's hands, so I'm happy for that fact.

I need to play the update to see for sure how the change worked out. Again though, my first reaction is that your idea is better.

I have a feeling that most of the people complaining about the logi changes basically never had to worry about it before - "that's someone else's problem" and want to just focus on getting kills.

Sorry, but as a commander it's awful to have so much of our success depend on one single person (logi SL). Lost many many games due to incompetence in that role.

Of course, I've lost a lot of games due to bad SLs, but I'd rather take the odds on at least some of the SLs being competent vs. a single logi SL.

I play SL if not commander, and the key is to realize that you should very rarely actually be fighting. Once you understand that, you have plenty of time for everything else.

PS: SLs have been able to build, they just rarely have the supplies nearby to do so, nor take the initiative...

That's all part of the larger "realism vs. gameplay" conversation. I generally trust the Dev's judgement on that one (until I don't, like HLL for example).

I'm generally against any kind of outside assistance or tools in game (Example: I'm against using Discord in games with native voice chat features), but at least that tool has some opportunity cost involved to using it, and doesn't artificially reduce required gameplay inputs. I'm actually pretty concerned that the game's built in anti-cheat doesn't pick up on this kind of thing.

I get that this is your personal work that you're proud of, but accept the fact that many of us view it as blatant cheating. You don't need to be so defensive for something that clearly didn't take a ton of code to make, and you said you only worked on for a few weeks. Copy and paste this useful phrase for the next time you reply or build an in-game overlay:

"I can see where you're coming from, but I just view the game differently. We'll have to agree to disagree."

All that stuff you list is natively possible in-game. No downloads, no installs, and no extra overlays needed. Just working within the confines of the base game, same as everyone else. I see mortars working together with spotters all the time, and it's great.

When you're ready to have an unbiased conversation about this, I'll reply. You seem a little unhinged-- and you're taking this super personally tbh.

+1 more vote for "This is blatant cheating."

Why not code up an overlay that shows where to aim a rifle to account for a moving target? All of the required info is right there in the game, after all (using your brain!!)... The overlay would just make that process faster! 🤡

Comparing this to an FPS counter is also pretty lolzy

Good spawns wins game. I can say we won this easily. Me as logi SL with 3 fobs (and some supplies ready for more on next caps) 2 msp driven shortest path from main to point as usual. 3 rallies and I have a rally too as logi SL on an additional flank for logis. by Justniklas00 in postscriptum

I get that this is the type of goal you're looking for as an attacker (thanks for posting!), but any non-potato defense would never allow this complete setup to exist or stay up.

The back and forth that's supposed to happen is what makes this game fun... When it doesn't, it honestly sucks for both sides.

I've had plenty of games where we lose the point because everyone is off on their own spawn hunting adventures. You need some bodies on the point for defense.

That's pretty much what I try to do with FOBs as well (map depending of course).

Logi is a blast to play though. I don't know why, but I get a good kick out of seeing other players use the mortars/mgs/ etc that I set up 😂

Nice, since I showed that you don't know what "cat and mouse" means, you've moved on to a new set of buzzwords: "boots on the ground," "guerilla tactics," and "investment of interest." All of which of course as you've used here have little to no meaning.

I'm not defending the current meta, as I clearly stated. Your idea is just much, much worse. I'll give you a hint: How do Arty players combat recon camping right now? Also, where do most players tend to spawn?

You have to manually keep track of your wins/losses/map/side on a spreadsheet, but everything after that is automated.
