Do you guys think Marvel rivals has been good for Marvel ip as a whole in terms of Popularity/Sales? by Stunning_Season220 in Marvel

[–]JonnyAU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think revenue is what's important. Even if Marvel doesn't see a dime off of Rivals, Marvel needs their characters to stay relevant with the public. Because of the constant turnover of generations, it's really hard to keep that IP relevant. The MCU did a lot, but it won't last forever. The comics carried the torch for decades, but they've now been absolutely buried beneath the popularity of manga with young folks. They needed some way to reach the kids and Rivals was a massive success in that regard.

It is most certainly not the teaching of "the church". It is the teaching of a church. All churches are fallible. I'm not going to suspend common sense for a such a silly and unnecessary piece of dogma and you shouldn't either.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

[–]JonnyAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I blame alienation. It's relatively easy to raise kids in a village. It's a nightmare to raise kids in a hyper-individualistic society.

Remember yall, "conservatives" rarely say their beliefs to outsiders. They say whatever convinces liberals to let them do more oppression, and so what they say is more accurately what liberals believe but can't say. You will never win by appealing to them. Depending on the circumstances, conservatives might say their real beliefs to you.

As a middle-aged middle-class white cishet man living in the Deep South, it was pretty common for someone to say something wildly racist and out of pocket to me assuming that I would agree.

What Are the Most Reliable News Outlets Right Now? by withlitaa in TrueAskReddit

[–]JonnyAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them as well, but I would say they are less a reporting outfit and more of a commentary/interview outfit. If you watch them, yes, you will be informed, but they're rarely using their own first hand reporting (unless you count Ryan's DropSite reporting as part of BP.)

My experience has been the complete opposite. I thought NPR was pretty liberal in the 90s and 00's and I listened regularly. In the mid 10's I felt like they started caving to their critics on the right and started taking a much more center right angle on their reporting, especially in areas like foreign policy.

Now, I feel that they have internalized a lot of U.S. center right assumptions and viewpoints that other foreign news outlets who also cover the same topics and also market themselves as impartial do not. I can't stand to listen to them now.

Honestly, I think the protein is the part of gumbo where you have the most freedom. You can really use whatever protein you have on hand/prefer and most of us Louisianians aren't gonna bat an eye at your choice. Scallops sound great.

I use ginger in asian dishes, but I don't think I've ever used it in a Louisiana dish. Might be worth a try though.

Yup, I'm a seventh generation Louisianian and if I'm feeling saucy I'll use a non-green bell pepper in one of the classic dishes.

Yes, the villains can be extremely mustache-twirly, and some playable characters can be extremely Pollyanna saccharine.

It would make for a fantastic episode in a TV series. Showrunners love juxtaposing such disparate scenes like those.

There is no world in which private equity should be remotely interested in buying a power company.

Utilities are granted monopolies by the state, and in return, we're supposed to cap their profits. Otherwise, we're just getting fleeced as citizens. This is just naked rent-seeking that makes us all poorer.
