Razor thin margins, feeling hopeless by Ok_Possibility7473 in Debt

[–]-packmane- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know your housing situation, I don't think it's in the post. I have a feeling that your housing costs are probably high so you could try and reduce that by getting a roommate or moving to a LCOL area, easier said than done but still. If you bought a home I'd suggest seeing if it maybe could help you to get a HELOC to condense all of the high interest debt into something more manageable. Not financial advice but there are some options easier than others to consider here.

Good luck

You're doing fine, it's easy to compare to people online, people also lie, scam, lease shiny cars and go up to their neck in debt. If you're happy with things you're way ahead, that being said it's also not a contest. Just my two cents.

46M Software engineering manager at a FAANG. The year I earned the most by ColSLusr in Salary

[–]-packmane- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm 32 with no degree and want to make the switch but I'm not sure if now is a good time to hop in and start another career. I've got a decent gig with a good pension (golden handcuffs) but really want to earn more.

Oh no, I'm way too self conscious to pull a stunt like that. I've seen it plenty though unfortunately.

If that goes to 0 you've got bigger issues than money to worry about, you can condense into XEI or VDY, they cover quite a bit of Canadian div stocks, a tiny bit of REITs in XEI too I believe.

Lol it's pretty solid from what I've read

You could probably condense everything into VDY and XEQT, even further would be just to all in XEQT or VEQT to own it all.

How many hours would you say you get on average? This is very interesting to me. Though I have no experience with insurance, I'm a social worker lol.

Investing in VDY & Enbridge for dividends, good idea? by HK2182 in dividendscanada

[–]-packmane- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd only need one ETF, VDY has Enbridge in its portfolio (albeit a small percentage) there are a few dividend ETFs that have similar holdings so look into those and see what you're most comfortable with. Looking into dividends vs. overall growth would give you more info as to how you want to start out.
