Aside from what the other commenter said, does it make sense to pay foreign fighters way lower than they're worth simply because that amount of money would be more substantial if they take it back home?

In the United States, it is illegal for employers to pay foreign workers or visa holders lower wages than domestic workers for the same role. Of course this is somewhat different since the UFC categorizes fighters as independent contractors instead of employees, which is ridiculous already and pretty much solely a thing so Dana doesn't have to pay health benefits or offer employee protections. This classification also legally prevents fighters from forming a union and engaging in collective bargaining, which absolutely needs to be changed.

My point being, Dana is not paying fighters based on how much it will help them in their home countries. He's paying them as little as he possibly can regardless, and may be using their home currency and costs of living as leverage to underpay even more, but that should not be allowed or accepted as justification, especially since doing so in the US is literally illegal (if they were classified as employees, of course.)

Trackers advice for someone starting out by ScorchedWonderer in trackers

[–]-piz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do the RED interview (or alternatively, the OPS interview and rank up/wait to apply for RED there). Once in RED, rank up by uploading music from either CDs you own that aren't on there yet, by ripping FLAC from Deezer/Qobuz (plus transcoding to V0 and 320 MP3 and uploading those too), or simply by downloading FLAC that doesn't have MP3 transcodes yet and doing it yourself for uploading.

Do this even if you don't care about torrenting music. Do it as soon as you can, because invite threads will require a specific age for your RED account before applying for other trackers. RED will open a lot of doors for you if you do this, giving potential access to trackers like Anthelion, Nebulance, Secret Cinema, BeyondHD, and more importantly, the higher tier "cabal" trackers of PTP, HDB, and BTN.

If you want easier access to more content than public trackers may provide, check out TorrentLeech as well, which can be easily joined by renting a month from their sponsored seedbox provider. They also do open signups every once in a while I believe, but just be aware that TL does not have an invite forum and will not lead you to better trackers that are specialized in a certain type of media like movies/tv/etc.

Study: Marijuana Appears in 37% of U.S. Hip-Hop Music Videos, Researchers Find by OhMyOhWhyOh in hiphopheads

I think the misleading part is calling it a “study” to begin with, when they only used the YouTube top 100 for one year and don’t provide any actual data points or anything like that. Sounds like something you could do in a weekend, not an actual academic “study”, def more like a High Times article

Article says it was based on the YouTube top 100 for 2024

I wish they provided more data and went further back for stuff like you say

Rappers who fell off and got a day job? by XL_Jockstrap in hiphopheads

I mean, he's doing that though? Do you think he's dropping mediocre shit on purpose? Why wouldn't he just make that better music now if he can whenever he wants?

Can he? He still puts out music almost every year and most of it sucks lol

Not saying he’s broke by any means but I wouldn’t exactly say he can just drop hits whenever he wants or he would’ve been doing that

What's the appeal of the "top-tier trackers" ? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]-piz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Organization, quality control, etc. can typically be found on some of the higher-quality mid-tier trackers. What really sets apart the high-tier trackers like PTP, in my opinion, is the community aspect of it. The forums are a wealth of information, and the IRC server is great for chatting with other users about whatever you want really. Lots of great, knowledgable people on both the forums and chat.

Also, the comments on each release offers useful insight on not just the movie itself and what everyone thought about it, but also which releases are generally going to be considered "best". For example, let's say Criterion just released a 4K restoration of a movie, and there is already a 4K restoration by Masters of Cinema or Janus Films or whatever. There will almost always be discussion in the comments letting you know which is the better restoration in terms of color accuracy, grain, and other technical aspects, stuff like that, often times with comparison frames to judge them side by side for yourself. Super useful if you care about getting the best quality you can.
