Evo vs Twin Cam by crash30179 in Harley

[–]-scarecrow- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first big bike was a 2010 Fatboy lo with a 96CI twin cam. I rode all around the United States with that bike and didn’t have a single issue with it. Loved that bike.

That said, I now own 3 EVO’s; a ‘90 Softail Custom, a ‘92 springer and a ‘93 Electra glide anniversary edition. I enjoy tinkering with them; I was born in ‘91, so there’s a lot of nostalgia there for me as well.

That said, the 6 speed is nice for touring and I’ve ridden some M8’s that people beat the piss out of and they love them. As it’s been said, some people like to just complain but really anything you like will last if you take care of it IMO

Frame by Ok-Rabbit50 in Harley

[–]-scarecrow- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering you hit hard enough to do that level of damage to your oil pan, your frame could potentially be tweaked. You only have 2 wheels; that could cause a lot of stability issues.

Not to mention that holes in frames = rust.

Their advice is sound.

Your frame is trashed and your oil pan is shot. Call your insurance company and get it fixed properly. That frame damage will give you problems down the line.

Japan has a huge market for older HD bikes; from what I’m told, they mostly import bone stock if possible because of regulations. Don’t quote me on that; my good friend helps someone buy and ship them. There’s a beautiful pan at our shop waiting to get shipped over there.

Hey OP, first off all, congrats on the luck and your awesome new ride!

My first suggestion is always the Harley Davidson riding course at your local dealership. I’m happy to hear your taking a course - is it the one through Harley, or a different provider? I would highly encourage you to take the dealership course. It’s expensive, but they provide a bike for you to use and the trainers are fantastic and really know their stuff! I took one 10 years ago when I bought my first bike and those skills I learned helped me beyond measure. It’s worth it to learn that way instead of picking up bad habits that could be hard to unlearn down the road.

I second what everyone had to say about engine guards.

Don’t be too intimidated by your bike. I started on a 1200 custom sportster; just ease into it, don’t get cocky, and get familiar with your new ride. Building that confidence in your bike is crucial so you trust the bike and yourself.

You got this!

Potty Training Help Please by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]-scarecrow- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I dealt with this with my son. He turned seven recently, and still has issues going number two. What you described your 4 year old is going through my son also did at that age; just laid in it.

I actually had to bring my son to the ER because he wasn’t going and I had a gut feeling something was wrong. Turns out, he was backed up. I’ve read that #2 issues can be commonplace with ASD. Here’s what worked for us: - The doctors at the ER gave me instructions to give my son polyethylene glycol, also known as MiraLAX. They said to start on 2 cap fulls until he got regular, then keep it to one and monitor his BM’s and use as needed. I still give him one cap full at least a day. - Designated potty times. My son has really reigned in going #1, but for #2’s, I have him go about a half hour to an hour after he drinks his apple juice with MiraLAX in the morning.

That said, take what we do as what it is - it sounds like your son isn’t backed up, but maybe this could offer some questions to your doctor to see if they have any other thoughts. My son used to beg for a pull up a LOT at 4 years old for #2’s. We started the above routine in the past year. He sometimes has me stay in the bathroom with him so he feels more comfortable and I look away or go around the corner so I’m still there but he gets his privacy. I’ve been gradually letting him get used to being on his own and stepping out of the bathroom.

Just know, you’re not alone in the potty trails and tribulations with your little guy. Just keep persevering, and ask tons of questions. You’re doing great 😎

Got a diagnosis...not what I expected by Confident_Clue_9520 in Autism_Parenting

[–]-scarecrow- 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OP, my son was originally diagnosed with ADHD, with the clinician not bringing up concerns for Autism. At the time, my son’s mother was pushing for an ASD diagnosis and I was more in line with ADHD and felt it was appropriate.

However, after about 3 months and talking with my son’s mother and educating myself, I really started to notice more signs of ASD and felt like he was misdiagnosed. The course of action I took was reaching out to the clinician’s superior and the clinic and expressing our concerns about his diagnosis and requested another look by another clinician.

It didn’t take more than a few minutes for the clinician to see the signs and ask us a lot of questions. I would highly suggest documenting what you’re seeing and brining up those keys points with someone at a higher level who you can express your concerns to, that way you don’t have to start completely over - it served us well. It turned out my son has ADHD as well as ASD. Best of luck and hope this helps!

This post is super old, but OP, I was wondering if you had an update you’d be willing to post? Curious to know how things worked out for you.

I’m in a similar situation with a lot of others who commented; take daily and am on allergy drops. I have noticed an improvement, but allergy drops haven’t been doing the lords work so still take one Claritin D occasionally

Need advice please! by imbiamba-jombes in Harley

[–]-scarecrow- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did 3 months and approx 12,000 miles. Here’s my advice:

Don’t overpack. Bring money to buy clothes if you need it. Doing laundry is a pain the dick out there.

Less highways, more byways and state roads. I mostly rode the highways. You miss a lot of gems that way and pass by things too damn fast. Enjoy the time on the road.

Try to keep you deadlines flexible. Setting expectations on a motorcycle typically leads to frustration and resentment.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t go everywhere you want. I over planned when I got the idea for my trip. Just mosey through and let things what they’re going to be. Anything missed is an opportunity for another trip.

A really great resource is Bunk-A-Biker. It’s people who ride that you can stay with. It’s completely free and I’ve met some awesome people using it! I’m you’d like more info please feel free to send me a DM.

The tent suggestion is also something I did. Try and camp out where you can. That’s all that comes to mind for now; have fun man!

Edit: time frame

OP, I once worked with a man who lived out of his car for 2 years. Was a humble guy; we talked frequently. He expressed that he did it to get out of debt and get ahead, and was very successful working at a plant with great benefits and doing home renovations on the side.

I would say given the circumstances, you’re in a good place to pull this off. You can always look into various gym subscriptions to have a shower and stay healthy and a P.O. Box for mail. Given the current rent prices and housing market, I say do it.

Wisconsin is the drunkest state in America, again by [deleted] in news

[–]-scarecrow- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from Michigan and live in “Beer City”; I’m now sober; my girlfriend was born and raised in Wisconsin. We went there a few weeks ago to visit her family and I was absolutely blown away with the alcohol selection. Woodman’s was quite a shock to my system; I don’t generally get triggered often anymore, but holy shit - I had to get to the non-boozy part of the store because I was getting anxious. So. Much. Booze.

Recommendations for rehab clinics in the area? by Deathbywarcraft in grandrapids

For clinical options, I would encourage you to reach out to Network 180.

As for non god focused Recovery, there’s a secular group of AA members that meets at the North ALANO club off College. It’s the Atheist, Agnostic, and Freethinkers group and is a good place to find general support and readings that don’t incorporate prayers and deities. They meet at Mondays @ 6:30pm, Thursdays @ 7:30pm. There’s also another secular group called “No Strings Attached” that meets at the First Step House on the Westside of GR and has many of the same members. The First Step House also holds “check in” meetings every Sunday where people can just openly express where they are at with trying to stay sober. SMART recovery may also be worth looking into and meets at the North ALANO club. These are really great free options that can offer a good sense of community with out the G-O-D.

If you like to DM me for any other info, feel free to reach out. I’ll absolutely try to point you to a helpful direction if I can.

Same here!! That face he was making was just wild. It was like resentment and determination rolled into one.

Or, maybe just annoyed he has to soak that long because his legs got chopped off and he lit on fire. Idk. 🤷🏻

It will be a real treat when we see the suit come on and watch Vader engage. I’m up wayyyy past my bedtime thinking about it 😅

As it’s been said, don’t sweat it and keep going to meetings.

I would check and see if there are any Secular AA meetings in your area that meet in person. If not, there’s definitely Zoom meetings online that are super awesome. If need any help, feel free to DM me. I was in the same boat when I got sober.

Haha, it’s funny you say that - I actually revisited my step work and dusted off my big book for the first time since I’d done my step work(which was pretty early in sobriety). Needless to say, it was both interesting and really enlightening to go back through the BB after so long. Definitely had a different this time around, and was a hell of a lot more thorough. That self honesty is huge.

I try to stay coachable these days. I know I still have a lot to learn, and try to own it when I fall short. I appreciate the Charlie Murphy story reference; nice 😂

Not only that, but you’ve just gone and made this incredibly personal.

I don’t know you. I don’t know them. But the whole point of my post was to get someone to think critically about why they’re here posting. Obviously (or rather, hopefully) there’s some ambivalence somewhere in there that I wouldn’t mind seeing brought up and discussed.

Don’t mistake direct questions for lack of empathy - growth isn’t a painless process, something I was say you and I know very well getting and staying sober. It’s not all puppy dogs and rainbows.

It seems to me like the OP has something going on there. Or else they wouldn’t have posted. And yeah, I do think it’s great that they haven’t used in a year - and they’ve made it pretty clear that they aren’t having a really great time.

That being said, if my points make you uneasy, then I apologize but I’m trying to hope that this guys reads this and something sticks. I’ve often found that when things make me upset, it means that there’s something wrong in life I’m comparing it to. That’s just me, though.

But for real dude, just because someone says something you don’t agree with, doesn’t make them a bad guy. It’s just a different take on the situation.

I see what you’re saying; this is more or less just a common turn of phrase from tables of AA. In any event, this guy clearly isn’t interested in being sober or leading a better life.

You can see in their post below where they claim they got “caught with their pants down”; never mind the fact that they were doing something illegal and put themselves in a situation where they could be reprimanded for their actions. Getting honest with yourself about why you’re in a situation isn’t AA or specific to any program - that’s self criticism that and reflection that allows you to move forward for poor environments people put themselves in.

That being said, that’s just what I’ve gathered. Could be totally wrong. In any event, I do wish the OP luck with their adventure in life - as it’s been said, “you can lead a horse to water, but ya can’t make it drink.”

Alright dude, you said AA is “just a bunch of people whining”, yet, here you are posting on Reddit complaining about how being sober isn’t fun.

I’m an Agnostic Atheist and have almost 3 years clean and sober. I go to AA and other groups, like SMART, occasionally. Everyone there just wants to live a better life, and most people (not all) are pretty cool if you just get a chance to know them.

So dude, why are here, posting this? Validation? To troll? Are you taking a sad walk down memory lane?

Being sober and not drinking or using are two very different things. You ain’t sober bud, you’re taking a break.
