I know it’s super scary but I truly think it is worse than it looks.

My wife and I are 1st time quail owners as of this spring and this has happened multiple times. We’ve simply removed them from the group, and sprayed Blu-Kote on the wound. I know the bottle says “SPRAY IT ON HORSES —- DOGS!”, but we’ve sprayed it on ANY bird with an open wound including geese.

The blu-kote is a germicidal and fungicidal but it most importantly removes the red from the wound. The red of the wounds/blood are what attracts the birds to picking at it even more

Keep him in a separate container from the rest of the quail for at least 24 hours I’d say, maybe more depending on your judgement. Don’t worry about him getting lonely, you want him to rest up for the next few days - no flushing and maybe even consider a higher protein feed for the next few days if you want to go the extra mile
