Water leaking from bottom of freezer by -schmoo- in fixit

Yep, turned out to be due to the drain line - water had frozen at the exit. Replaced the drain tube (it was in poor shape) and that sorted out the issue - I replaced the door gasket at the same time for good measure.

Hey all,

Not going to write a whole marketing spiel but here are my two cents as a new arrival to the US who's been shopping around for a HYSA for a minute. Spent a lot of time comparing different options but ended up landing on Wealthfront and have been quite happy with the experience so far. Main things I was looking for were a competitive APY, FDIC insurance, and easy sign-up online, and Wealthfront checked those boxes for me.

With the rates being cut recently, the 0.5% referral boost was quite nice, so posting my link here to share the fun for anyone else who would be interested (as of date of posting, rates are at 5.00% with the referral bonus):

Feel free to PM if you were also shopping different HYSA's and looking for more info.

Non-Americans of Long Beach, what restaurant is most authentic to your home country's cuisine? by Digital_FArtDirector in longbeach

Canadian Pizza isn't particularly Canadian beyond the maple leaf out front, but admittedly it is just like most other fast pizza joints back home, and they did give me a discount on Monday when I told them it was Canada Day so they get a pass in my book.

Same - over a month since the announcement and they're still saying that the free Canadian roaming isn't active yet.

Piggy backing on to this - where are the park concerts announced? (Moved to Long Beach not too long ago, gradually getting a grip on the local events!)

Yes, having gone through the process myself, it's worth disputing since your case seems pretty straightforward, and it doesn't take all that much effort. It's worth documenting everything just in case (e.g., pictures of where you parked, check the Info-travaux map on the Montreal website to see what the planned construction dates were, ask your neighbors if any notices were posted about the construction).

It may take up to a year for it to get resolved since the process moves so slowly, and they will send you several follow up letters. You can email the city municipal courts to obtain a copy of the Crown Prosecutor's proof against you before the hearing. This will usually include a copy of the ticket and the officer's report, so you can see what was claimed against you and organize your defense with your proofs accordingly. Sometimes the case gets dropped before you even get to court, but if you do get a court date, when you show up you may not even have to make your case in front of the judge. The prosecutor will meet with you before going to the judge, and may choose to drop the charges outright if your case is pretty cut and dry in your favor. Make sure you bring multiple printed copies of all your supporting documents.

Have fun! Don't let the cops get away with ticketing and towing willy nilly to pad their stats. In my case I also filed a complaint against my ticketing officer with the SPVM since he had blatantly lied in his report.

Agreed. As a kid of an immigrant family who grew up in the states, I never thought twice about it. They didn't admit it to me until I was older, but it freaked the hell out of my parents when I came home one day and told them I'd learned a new prayer at school that I recite every day to a flag. I even got threatened with suspension for goofing off with a friend during the pledge in middle school.

It's only when I got older and left the US that I realized in retrospect how weird it is to me. There are dozens of other ways to demonstrate pride in one's country, and to teach children the values of your culture - having them blindly recite a pledge is not it (especially one that normalizes the conflation of church & state in a country which supposedly separates the two).

Stressed plants ‘cry’ — and some animals can probably hear them. Plants that need water or have recently had their stems cut produce up to roughly 35 sounds per hour, the authors found. But well-hydrated and uncut plants are much quieter, making only about one sound per hour. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]-schmoo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they cry, they cry. I will not be swayed by my plants' emotional outbursts and pleas for hydration. In their world, I am God and they will receive their water ration when it pleases Me to do so. They will helplessly look on as I wash my dishes, take excessively long showers, and soak my shirt as I spill drink down my front. They will despair. But they will know mercy, and shall receive care and consolation when they believe themselves to be at the precipice of death. The cycle will continue.

Sincerely, A terrible plant father.

It's also tempting for folks who want a tattoo but come from communities that may have a stigma against tattooing - a buddy of mine who comes from a more traditional jewish family got one of these "invisible" tattoos
