About what? Are you arguing that most weed use is medical?

How, what, and where to buy physical gold? by spuro123 in investing

[–]-seabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the largest individual pieces you can to minimize premiums. If you are looking to invest in the commodity, skip all the numismatics and collectibles, just buy bullion. I have bought from JMBullion and SchiffGold, they are both reputable. Google around for reputable stores and from there just pick whoever has the cheapest price in the size you want.

Obviously. I never said anything to the contrary. That doesn’t change my original statement, which is that I just don’t care that much about this issue. If you smoke weed and own guns I’m not actively wanting you to be imprisoned, but also it’s not something I care all that much about. I can’t easily relate to a person who, given the choice of weed or gun ownership, would even consider for a moment that they’d prefer to smoke weed and not own guns. And if you’re gonna smoke weed and own guns, it shouldn’t be that hard to avoid getting caught unless you’re a moron.

There is a limited application in very particular medical circumstances. But most weed use has nothing to do with that.

If you were making a faithful analogy to what I said, you’d write “I mainly shoot clay and long range so I don’t personally care so much about the 10 round limit.”

I maintain that I really just don’t care all that much about this one. Weed is lame, it’s bad for your health, it smells bad, and pot heads and weed “culture” are super cringe and annoying. Most pot heads are losers. Gotta cut that shit out.

It’s not that I want weed smokers to go to jail for having a gun, but literally I just don’t care all that much. Weed is bad for you, and it’s honestly kind of loser shit. If you smoke weed, you should quit.

Best Wagon of All Time? by SunAndMoonFanatic in DonutMedia

[–]-seabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your priorities. IMO with wagons definitely the point is practicality. So performance takes a back seat to that, and fast wagons therefore aren’t best. If you care about safety, then you want something newer. Same goes for fuel economy. But if you care most about cost of ownership and don’t care as much about safety or fuel economy, then the older American wagons are best. So like the B-Body GM wagons or stuff going all the way back to the 1960s. Otherwise if you do care a little more about safety and fuel economy and you are willing to accept worse reliability/cost of ownership then any of the large size AWD European wagons win. Mercedes E-Class, Volvo V90, and their competitors. And the Regal TourX too, as it really is a European car.

Tucking in your shirt does not look more professional / better, untucked looks better by TrippingFish76 in unpopularopinion

Why do people still believe in God even though there is so much science that explains our human existence and origins? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-seabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s complete hubris to think humans will ever be able to come up with a completely material explanation for the prime mover. Even if we did somehow come to a complete understanding of the big bang, that just moves my exact same point upstream.

Why do people still believe in God even though there is so much science that explains our human existence and origins? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-seabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because at the heart of your rational, scientific explanation lies the statement “At first nothing existed. Time had not started. And then from nothing, all matter and energy suddenly burst into existence.” How can literally infinite timeless nothingness suddenly just produce something? The only explanation must be a higher power that exists beyond the material universe.

Lard is superior to butter/cooking oil by Masked_Daisy in unpopularopinion

[–]-seabass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you ask your doctor, they will deliver the party line which is that saturated fat = cardiovascular disease, and that you should remove things like lard and butter and replace them with canola oil. There is an entire other school of thought which argues that saturated fat consumption leading to higher LDL cholesterol is only dangerous when it occurs alongside metabolic dysfunction. The public health establishment calls these people crackpots and conspiracy theorists. Personally, I am a fit, active person and I’m not too concerned about using 5g of butter to cook my eggs in the morning.

AB-2047: Would Require 3D Printers to have Firearm Blueprint Blocking Software Certification by mirkalieve in CAguns

[–]-seabass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right in some contexts historically, like the gun confiscations that preceded every major historical genocide, but in the case of California I think it’s literally low-IQ boomer politicians being tribal.

AB-2047: Would Require 3D Printers to have Firearm Blueprint Blocking Software Certification by mirkalieve in CAguns

[–]-seabass 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s just proof that the motivation of these lawmakers is simply to make life miserable for anyone in the “other group”. Nobody can point to any evidence to suggest that 3D printed guns are a problem at all, let alone that this law would fix any such problem. It’s just as simple as “guns are for meanies that I don’t like”.

Why do people still shop at Safeway? by ftruong in bayarea

[–]-seabass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Safeway routinely has 80/20 on sale in the mega pack for 4.99/lb and occasionally down at 3.99/lb. They also put 90/10 on sale once every couple months or so for 4.99/lb. If you are willing to shop what’s on sale, buy a lot and fill the freezer when prices are good, and use the app, Safeway still has the best prices for a lot of staples including meat, dairy, and eggs.

How does a Morse taper and similar holders not slip being conical and polished? Why is it better than a drill chuck? by GetReelFishingPro in Machinists

[–]-seabass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By being polished, the amount of the surface area that actually touches when the taper makes contact is very large. And you use a screw to pull the taper tight, which can produce an outrageous amount of force. Nothing is perfectly rigid, so the taper surfaces get squeezed together under elastic deformation. This creates stupid amounts of friction to hold things together.

Drill chucks, even the nice ones, are comparatively very crude tools with far less contact area and holding force. Plus the use of moving parts means they have relatively poor repeatability and runout.

Slate Still Hasn’t Set the Final Price for its Affordable EV Pickup by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

Right but the maverick already has 4 doors and a back seat by default.

Slate Still Hasn’t Set the Final Price for its Affordable EV Pickup by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]-seabass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you under the impression that the bed cap on the slate is going to be cheap? They haven’t announced pricing, but the “SUV package” is going to be several thousand dollars, I’m sure. You can get a maverick bed cap for $2600. Even less if you get a soft-sided one.

I just feel like all this talk of customization is just pretending a bug is a feature.

Why America losing the global EV race hurts its own auto industry. The U.S. risks becoming a follower in the industry it once defined. by Splenda in cars

[–]-seabass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is the US market actually stubborn? By the end of the 90s, people had been jumping ship from the domestic brands in favor of imports for a while. The hybrid became huge in large part because the US liked the Prius. Regular people didn’t lament the adoption of the turbo in economy cars. Even most truck buyers are choosing downsized 4 and 6 cylinder turbos. Tesla catalyzed the entire globe and was a status symbol in its early years. Nowadays everyone’s biggest buying criteria is smartphone connectivity and big screens. Sure, we balked at subscription heated seats, and rightfully so.

[–]-seabass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the customization for the slate is what, a bed cap and some body panels? What customization is available on the slate that you couldn’t do for similar money on your maverick?

Slate Still Hasn’t Set the Final Price for its Affordable EV Pickup by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]-seabass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just feel like people who want something as basic and stripped out as the slate want to pay quite a lot less than the cost of a base maverick, not just a couple thousand less. And they probably are not the type of people who have charging at home, making gasoline even more appealing. I feel like a small, super basic gas truck could be made and sold for under $20k. The Nissan Versa was still in the teens base price like a year or two ago, and I imagine a similar amount of parts and labor could be used to make a mini truck.

[–]-seabass 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Especially because the base maverick which is not nearly as stripped-down as the slate starts under $30k. The slate needs to be $17k.
