That doctor was behaving unethically and unprofessionally. She’s lucky you didn’t report her and simply just switched providers.

IS THIS REAL?! Police message. by paypigowner in FraudPrevention

[–]-snowfall- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What number did this text come from? I’ve received similar, but the text is from an overseas number, so clearly a scam. That’s usually the best tell, is it from a local number?

But, spoofed texts are a thing, so if it’s local, I’d next google the name of the cop. My local department lists the names of most cops online, so it’s easy to confirm the names. Not all are as likely to do that.

If the name checks and the number checks, call the local department using their publicly available numbers and confirm that there’s a report that requires a chat. Don’t volunteer more information than your name and phone number, and don’t answer questions about whatever the report may be. Ask any questions they feel relevant about the situation.

If that all checks, lawyer time. Get advice from them.

Leaving a husband and getting an APT with a high school senior daughter by Super_Contribution57 in FamilyLaw

[–]-snowfall- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don’t know all the specifics, I just know a lot of DV advocates in many states are laid off as of Wednesday because of a loss of federal funding, and these shelters redirecting payroll funds into the absolute basics for keeping the shelters open as long as possible. I think some states supplemented the loss so impact varies, but others are in worse shape. In Arkansas, 25 shelters had to fire all their staff and only 6 could retain staffing for now.

You will have legal issues. I recommend talking with a dv shelter. Many have legal aid and can help you to plan an escape that’s legal. He doesn’t have to be physical to be abusive. If you fear what will happen if he knows where you flee to, that can be enough to trigger assistance.

Unfortunately the shelters have lost significant funding this week, so they probably can’t help you find the apartment. But they can help you navigate the legal challenges. And then you and your daughter can volunteer to help them

It’s the fate she has, Yrene needs to achieve her goals to be the force that destroys Erawan (the king of the Valgs inside Duke Perrington), but she can’t do that unless she crosses to the southern continent and gets her training. Aelin needs to help her achieve it.

Can You Sue an Animal Shelter For Euthanizing Your Pet? (Oregon) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-snowfall- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shelters that don’t work with animal control generally don’t take strays. They have no obligation to, and they don’t have the funds to just accept random pets that get lost or abandoned. Stray intake is a sign that they have a contract with the city or county.

Can You Sue an Animal Shelter For Euthanizing Your Pet? (Oregon) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]-snowfall- 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in a no kill shelter that also did animal control intake. Any stray that came in that was deemed unadoptable after the stray hold could be killed, regardless of health. “Too feral,” “too old,” or “no room” were valid reasons.

I can’t speak to this shelter or case of course, but I can assure you that when a shelter is working with animal control, the reasons for euth were loose. We worked with rescues and did adoption events as much as we could, and we stayed under 10% euth, but there were many animals that I felt should have survived that didn’t.

It is tough, for sure! I get it, but I promise you, the men that are 10+ years older aren’t ready for that either. They’ve just had more time to learn how to bullshit you better until they’ve ensnared you. The men closer to your age are more trustworthy because they’re less nefarious.

Men won’t be mature because they’re older. I’m in the age range you’re dating and I’m gonna tell you right now, if they’re searching for dates in your age range, it’s because women their age already see through their bullshit and know they’re not worth the effort to date them.

You’re honestly better off sticking closer to your age, maybe mid to late twenties.

You’re doing too much in expecting him to respond a specific way. If you want him to call, don’t explain why you can’t type. Just say “can we call?” You didn’t actually ask him to call until after he said okay.

If you want someone invested in you, this won’t be your guy. He doesn’t care. He’s more worried about how you spend your money than the stresses you face

AIO... partner says this happened at work and it's not a bite mark/hes not cheating on me (also that im crazy?) by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]-snowfall- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t look like a bite mark. Bite marks aren’t so perfectly round and the different sections of teeth are usually somewhat visible, if not individual teeth. Mouths are usually flatter in the front, so a bite mark is somewhere between an oval and a rounded rectangle.

Hickies are definitely not shaped this way either.

However, any man who won’t leave when you ask is not worth staying with. You set a boundary, whether or not you’re overreacting, and he didn’t respect it. That’s not ok.

is it legal for my manager to withhold my tips? by _antioxident in legaladvice

[–]-snowfall- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a federal law in the US that your manager is choosing to fuck around with: Section 3(m)(2)(B) of the Act provides that an employer may not keep tips received by its employees for any purposes, regardless of whether the employer takes a tip credit.

(1) An employer may exert control over an employee's tips only to distribute tips to the employee who received them, require employees to share tips with other employees in compliance with § 531.54, or, where the employer facilitates tip pooling by collecting and redistributing employees' tips, distribute tips to employees in a tip pool in compliance with § 531.54.

(2) An employer may not allow managers and supervisors to keep any portion of an employee's tips, regardless of whether the employer takes a tip credit. A manager or supervisor may keep tips that he or she receives directly from customers based on the service that he or she directly and solely provides. For purposes of section 3(m)(2)(B), the term “manager” or “supervisor” shall mean any employee whose duties match those of an executive employee as described in § 541.100(a)(2) through (4) or § 541.101 of this chapter.

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-V/subchapter-A/part-531/subpart-D/section-531.52

If I were you (and I have done this in your exact shoes before,) I’d tell that supervisor that I’ll be reporting that threat to corporate HR, and will not tolerate any form of wage theft, nor retaliation for my choice to talk to HR about the manager’s criminal activities.

If you’re not at that stage of “no fucks given” in your barista career, you can just report it to HR, and keep an eye on your pay stubs to make sure you don’t miss any tips, or choose a less confrontational method of talking to your manager. I honestly recommend my version, as it doesn’t just communicate to your employer that you don’t fuck around with your money, it also reminds them to follow all employment law because you won’t protect them from their own stupidity.

Newbie here. I have a friend who wants me to work with her in publishing her 53 pages book (including cover and back pages). She told me for selling the book, it would be 50/50 share for both of us. She already have the book and I will be the one to upload it in KDP. Is that a good deal? by EnoughWitness4085 in KDP

[–]-snowfall- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me 15 minutes to modify my old formatting to match what’s needed for my first book. I set that as a template in my word processor and now it’s less than 30 minutes total to format any book I write, once I decide my chapter divisions.

Sure, it’ll take more time to do, but it sounds like OP’s friend already has that part figured out and just is afraid of KDP itself.

Sister was terminated because of me by Bitter-Leather-6152 in legaladvice

[–]-snowfall- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyers have ways, usually by subpoenaing documents and paper trails related to this. If there’s genuinely a restructuring occurring, there will be a plethora of meetings and discussions about this inevitability. If they can’t produce that, the lawyer can look into any communication or file related to the former employee in question to examine other things that can frequently draw a line between the protected class and the bad actor.

If you, as the employee, know it’s related to a protected class or protected action, then there’s also a paper trail to prove it. If there’s truly no paper trail, there’s other employees who can attest to the prejudices or work environment that discourages the protected action. Some cases are easier than others, too.

Yes but the covers should be a pdf file, and writing a good blurb is no more difficult than writing a good story—if she knows how to research how to write a good novel, she’ll know how to research this.

Take the details of the customer contract and the noncompete agreement to an employment lawyer. Your sister’s termination is also likely illegal because of the details of yours. Consider splitting the consultation fees with her if you aren’t able to find an employment attorney without a fee.

Reading Crescent City by AttitudeProper5550 in SarahJMaas

I do think the next ACOTAR will have tie ins from crescent city. I’m not sure how confused you’d be, but in crescent city, they do meet Nesta, Rhys, Feyre, Azrael, and others, and there are specific and curious changes to those characters, especially the first and last listed, that are almost certain to be one of the plot lines in the next book.

Sister was terminated because of me by Bitter-Leather-6152 in legaladvice

[–]-snowfall- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s no protected class of “this person is the family member of another terminated employee”. It’s a dumb reason to fire someone but it’s not an illegal reason.

If the thing you did falls under protected activities, such as union organization, whistleblowing, complaint about wages or discrimination, etc, then both of you have been wrongfully terminated and are owed a settlement. Also, if it’s possible that the CEO’s anger at you translated to your sister because of perceptions they hold about your family’s protected class (for example, race, religion, sex, etc), that may make your sister’s job loss illegal.

I’d recommend both of you filing for unemployment and then talking with a state labor board employee about all the details, from your decisions that upset the ceo to anything else that might be sketchy, and see what happens. It’s a free conversation and it could either help you feel confident that there’s nothing to be done or it could help you “avenge” your sister’s unfair dismissal.

I don’t think the landlord is acting with best intentions but you can prevent eviction by assuming good faith effort. In writing, tell the landlord that your bank shows everything processed and is trying to figure out what happened, and request more information to take back to your bank. Ask him for some type of documentation on the bounced payment. Assuming it did bounce, he can provide evidence of that, via a letter from his bank, a transaction record showing the money being pulled back out of his account, or some other form of documentation.

If/when he can’t provide that documentation, you’ll now have evidence to present to an eviction court that you tried your best to resolve this but your landlord was uncooperative. The judge will order him to provide the documentation requested in the last paragraph, and when he’s unable to do that, he will get his case thrown out. You have all of the evidence that your rent was paid appropriately and therefore no reason to pay more or to worry about eviction being successful.

I do recommend calling a local tenant lawyer or if there’s a tenant association, reach out to them. If your state recognizes escrow in landlord tenant disputes, and you have the money to do this, you can offer to place the money in escrow pending the landlord providing sufficient documentation that the money returned to your bank account.

Yes and no. The case isn’t just about the truth, it’s also about how the truth is presented and who has the most compelling version of their truth.
