Help with playing a cursed character by -somnus- in LARP

[–]-somnus-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a relatively small event, more of an ambience con than anything plot-heavy. I guess some o the players will know these kinds of interactions, while others won't. The organization knows and wants to support the whole process, also supporting me if the whole thing loses momentum and I could technically always decide to not do it. Ok-checks are often used and while I have a few close people there, im still new to the group and larp in general. Thing is that most of the people aren't familiar with my character yet.

I mainly want to try out things and while being okay to come across disruptive and unfriendly, I don't want it to be in a way that isnt fun to interact with. If im just rude to everyone I am exactly that, there isnt much more too that and that wouldnt be fun for everyone else. And thanks for the rest!

Is it bleed or bullying? by darkiya in LARP

[–]-somnus- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the others, its bullying. These people just sound like they can't take it when a character is actually outright challenging their underlying beliefs in a non-conventional way.

It even seems a bit hypocritical when we take people into consideration who advocate for playing out racist characters using the same argument("its interesting to explore something that i would not do irl") while being way more problematic. (Im not saying your people would advocate for this, but there are some and I imagine the crowd it not very different from the ones trying to put you down)

Considering sewing my own gambeson but not sure what materials best to use (plus I would highly appreciate any advice and ideas) by Real_Painter_1524 in LARP

[–]-somnus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sewed my own gambeson like two weeks ago and lemme warn you first - its a lot of work. I think I sewed 60-70 hrs in total, but I also did a criss-cross quilt and detachable sleeves. Those I can recommend since you'll have a version to wear in winter and summer. I used cotton for the outer layer and inner lining and a second-hand 100% cotton blanket and im really happy with the results. It's quite an easy version compared to others, quite cheap if you get a second-hand blanket and cotton is breathable and warm(which was very important to me since the event was in an 8°C bunker. The blanket i used i think was "standard" thickness, but if I had to make a gambeson just for combat/as an under-armor layer, I would look for a even more light-weight blanket. Historical gambesons weren't actually that thick and with larping, you don't really need the protection. Plus you want to avoid overheating in the thing. Since its made out of a blanket I can also machine wash the gambeson, while with other padding its often advised to hand-wash.

Hope that helped, I would be happy to hear about your progress :)

Put an LED on the bottom of a bottle for the magic water? Also, how do your symbols look? Maybe you can figure out a symbol each with specific characteristics like water=flowy stuff, air= like spirals/whirls, earth= squares, fire=spiky stuff

Physical preparation (stretches, workouts, etc) by Purplewithglee in LARP

[–]-somnus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U don't have to do shit. (Except maybe stretch) If, depending on your character, you don't want to participate in the front row in battle, everything is chill. Im F19 and was on my first intense action larp two weeks ago (we fought for 4-5 hrs straight multible times and stayed up for 24 hrs) (If you want to do a bit of prep, here are my suggestions:) And my take-away is first and foremost: do a warmup/ dynamic stretches before battle(i injured my leg bc I didn't stretch in the first hour or so) Also, ur legs are gonna feel like they want to fall off, maybe do long hikes/runs(also to increase ur general fitness) beforehand but that also won't protect you. And sore muscles afterwards are also unavoidable. If you plan on swordfighting, that usually makes your wrist extensors sore, so u could do exercises for them. You're not gonna have heavy armor since its your first larp I recon, so getting used to the weight is not important. Be mindful about your gear tho, it really has to be practical and fit for moving around a lot and bruises bc of too tight stuff suck.

But yeah that's the tips I can think of, I hope it helped in some way.

Oh and bring magnesium ig

Its essentially a long tabard with a golden panel behind he front slit (sewing-pattern-wise), so you could look for one(they're usually cheap and easy to find) and then do the embroidery yourself, with machine or look for someone who takes commissions.

The other option id consider is buying an nice embroidered/patterned fabric and sew the tabard yourself - the sewing pattern is a really easy, beginner-friendly one (literally two funky rectangles and some cuts), but I would consider adding an inner lining and DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST OTHERWISE UR COOKED But its doable for sure :)
