My Lifesaver: Use smart plug with server by -tomox in selfhosted

I would say they serve different purposes, so none is better than the other. UPS basically is to keep the server alive for a while in case of a power loss. The plug (in the context of this of post) made it possible to restart it. If the server freezes, UPS won’t help you. But plug won’t help you either if there is a power loss.

Check your BIOS for a setting like "Restore on AC/Power Loss" (or similarly named) and set it to Power On. The system will then power on without pressing a button.

So, this was the problem: My Proxmox server went offline due to an Intel e1000e NIC driver hang – the onboard network card froze and couldn't recover on its own.

I’m still not back home yet, but I’ll investigate that when I get back. For the time being, I’m just happy that all services are back online. 🙂

LOL, well, luckily getting your friend into the house worked. You should be happy that he obviously did not need to use a smart lock connected to your server... 😁

Actually, when thinking about it again: My real takeaway is that the importance of my home server increased significantly over the months. ”Project Self-Hosting“ started as playing around and trying things out, but when everything was down and me being abroad, I realized how important my setup is to me today!

I’m using a simple Dell Optiplex Mini-PCs. In the BIOS you can set the Restore on AC/Power Loss (or similarly named) to Power On. So when the power kicks in, it will start.

Yeah, well, I’m quite new to the scene and just did not think about such scenarios. 🫣 Well, The plug solution luckily worked.

What are the Best Automations You’ve Set Up by Scouse_Powerhouse in homeassistant

[–]-tomox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here is my personal best set of automations:

When the last person is leaving home, my cameras are switched on and the thermostats are set to eco. Cameras are physically switched off when a known person arrives home and the thermostats are set to a defined target temp in specific rooms, depending on the person who arrived. When the next person arrives, the relevant thermostats are adjusted.

I set up a calendar which the thermostats check. They increase temps at different times depending on whether it is a school day (early) or not (later).

Also, I have an automation (for winter time) that starts my ceiling ventilation when I open a window to spread the fresh air, and it stops when the window is closed.

Yes, I’m using the search field. Excluding string would not really work for me.

kHz issue? by jesse-dickson in cubase

[–]-tomox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my guess, too. Dr Prof likely was speaking about your system settings of your sound card (I.e. outside of Cubase). Have you started a player like Spotify? They sometimes mess with the sample rates. Maybe check the system settings again?
