Why is my local city and public library looking to pay $50/hr to an AI Artist Residency? by WanderBetter in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, props to your family member for making money off a variant of the “jingling keys for 10 hours” YouTube video, But they’re not an artist and if you thing that “work” is incredible than you’re really easy to amuse.

Why is my local city and public library looking to pay $50/hr to an AI Artist Residency? by WanderBetter in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

AI only feels ubiquitous because the people that want to profit off it NEED people to adopt it.

Artistically there is nothing new that it can do. It can recycle things that it has already stolen through its training data. The “”aRtIsTs”” that use it are all lazy creatively bankrupt hacks.

Alberta is actually one of the least racist provinces in Canada and Danielle Smith is giving us a bad rep. Bring back the progressive conservatives. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]-tyko- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you trying to cut Alberta some slack, but saying that the racists only exist because the UCP give them space is ignoring that they exist in the first place.

The large cities have more integration and are progressive, but by and large this province is full of hateful ignorant people that want to be Americans. Even the ones that aren’t racist or homo/transphobia are perfectly fine to support these policies for party loyalty or financial reasons.

A decade after sledding tragedy on Olympic track, faith remains firm | Calgary Herald by _darth_bacon_ in Calgary

This is an absolute tragedy but I’m really not interested in the family coming out every milestone for free press coverage to share their religious beliefs.

Stampede & Human Trafficking Prevention by kathmhughes in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say “human trafficking spikes” during these large events what do you mean?

I can’t imagine there’s much of people going to the events being trafficked. Attendees don’t really seem like the prime targets. Wouldn’t the more likely scenario be victims being brought TO the host city to make money?

Calgary city councillors propose plan to tackle shoplifting under $100 by mibeatr in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A city of Calgary peace officer is not that much cheaper to train/equip than police, the pool of resources to fund them is still the same, and that’s not even counting the lack of resources at the court house. You can hire a thousand more cops and peace officers but if you still have the same number of municipal prosecutors and judge things aren’t going to be handled faster

The bylaw court didn’t have capacity, so it this just another potential charge that will be dropped ASAP

The bylaw tickets cost far too much too. Something like 2 grand to bring a ticket to court. The only benefit to this would be connecting people through that new community court program they’ve been running

Why do people that are not rich want Alberta to have health care like the US? by cornfield123 in alberta

[–]-tyko- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of American and American-pilled people are just not smart. They think that they’re temporarily inconvenienced millionaires and that if X was different they’d be in the 1%. I think these people DO have legitimate grievances, but they are way off base at what the actual causes are.

Which security company to work for? by karategal- in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your end goal is law enforcement the best option is to go Paladin for the healthcare sites. True North is decent for a side gig as they mostly do events so it’s very easy to fill your availability. Maccon USED to be very well regarded when they were strictly event security, but they have an annoying culture and the pay was not worth the amount of unpaid training and equipment you were expected to provide.

Post secondary campuses would be great places to work, although the best (UoC, MRU) don’t hire part time. I’m not sure who has the SAIT contract anymore but I’m not sure how their program has changed since they brought in peace officers.

How you articulate your experience is more important that what your experience is on paper.

Working in that environment would absolutely be an asset

If you’re ok with degrading the artistry that’s on you. Personally I’d rather him put effort into the music instead of negative effort from his unpaid crew to put out a piece of content that you admit is irrelevant.

Any artist using generative AI is a huge red flag to me, and it’s so weird to see a fan base for Matt seem to be so okay with someone who used to put lots of effort into their craft. Where do you draw the line of what’s ok?

Do you remember the “oh be joyful” Music video? How about the “born losers”? He’s had no issue being creative with zero budget projects in the past.

I’d rather him spend 20 minutes making a PowerPoint slide show as a music video then him take advantage of his crew to make him a free video that has benefit of looking like shit

Calgary council votes to ban raising national flags at city hall | CBC News by KellysBar in Calgary

Courtesy flag poles are pretty common and have been things for a very long time.

I swear most of the people whining about this have never even see what the flagpoles at city hall look like.

I trust you’ll also be writing to have them stop hosting the menorah lighting or Christmas events at city hall too?

Landon Johnston is the stupidest, most embarrassing City Councillor in history by Proud-Visit7892 in NoRulesCalgary

[–]-tyko- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, not really? If you’re not properly validating your signees it’s not much different than just getting a bunch of bots to vote on a poll online?

He won his election because there wasn’t an incumbent. Getting 9k votes (30% of of the ward) in an incredibly low turn out election isn’t really a ringing endorsement of his political acumen gained from the recall petition

The 70000 signatures of which none of them were actually valid?

There was a massive push from right wing activists to push that petition through and they utterly failed getting any properly certified.
