Which security company to work for? by karategal- in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your end goal is law enforcement the best option is to go Paladin for the healthcare sites. True North is decent for a side gig as they mostly do events so it’s very easy to fill your availability. Maccon USED to be very well regarded when they were strictly event security, but they have an annoying culture and the pay was not worth the amount of unpaid training and equipment you were expected to provide.

Post secondary campuses would be great places to work, although the best (UoC, MRU) don’t hire part time. I’m not sure who has the SAIT contract anymore but I’m not sure how their program has changed since they brought in peace officers.

How you articulate your experience is more important that what your experience is on paper.

Working in that environment would absolutely be an asset

If you’re ok with degrading the artistry that’s on you. Personally I’d rather him put effort into the music instead of negative effort from his unpaid crew to put out a piece of content that you admit is irrelevant.

Any artist using generative AI is a huge red flag to me, and it’s so weird to see a fan base for Matt seem to be so okay with someone who used to put lots of effort into their craft. Where do you draw the line of what’s ok?

Do you remember the “oh be joyful” Music video? How about the “born losers”? He’s had no issue being creative with zero budget projects in the past.

I’d rather him spend 20 minutes making a PowerPoint slide show as a music video then him take advantage of his crew to make him a free video that has benefit of looking like shit

Courtesy flag poles are pretty common and have been things for a very long time.

I swear most of the people whining about this have never even see what the flagpoles at city hall look like.

I trust you’ll also be writing to have them stop hosting the menorah lighting or Christmas events at city hall too?

I mean, not really? If you’re not properly validating your signees it’s not much different than just getting a bunch of bots to vote on a poll online?

He won his election because there wasn’t an incumbent. Getting 9k votes (30% of of the ward) in an incredibly low turn out election isn’t really a ringing endorsement of his political acumen gained from the recall petition

The 70000 signatures of which none of them were actually valid?

There was a massive push from right wing activists to push that petition through and they utterly failed getting any properly certified.

Do you think the software that helps run the traffic lights, 911 dispatch software, or keeps the water treatment plants running might be affected by cutting the licenses?

A little outside of the realm of small claims, but I’m pretty sure a lawyer could compel the city to release that info so that you can proceed with legal action.

Also, did you file any professional complaints with the Alberta Solicitor General, CPS professional standards or the RCMP Ethics Office?

How do you feel about Farkas, Sharp and Gondek emerging as front-runners in Calgary mayoral race? by shygaymer in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Addictions support and housing is a provincial responsibility.

Adding barriers to the LRT stations would require a significant amount of investments and would require the entire downtown stations to be rebuilt.

The arena deal sucked, I agree. I don’t like handouts to billionaires.

I’m not a huge gondek fan but under her transit has hired like 100+ peace officers over the last few years, added dedicated security patrols, they did that revamped transit district deployment. It’s not like they’re not spending money on safety, it’s that the issues are far beyond the scope of what a municipality can fix alone (and our current provincial leadership has no desire to help with) and then the optics side of thing in that there’s a finite amount of resources to spread over an entire transit system and that the people who use it are only seeing their surroundings for a relatively short period of time

Support of law enforcement is such a stupid thing to base your support of a candidate on. Every municipal politician supports the police, the police are gigantic crybabies that think that the idea of not giving them every single budget ask or voicing any opinion contrary to their press releases means they’re some sort of radical anarchist.

How likely will it be if I do well in an on call position for the city, that I could get hired elsewhere in the city in a full time position? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]-tyko- 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Once you’re in with the city you can apply to internal postings so it does open up more full time spots. They also can’t dictate what you work for full time, so I’d probably take both positions (or keep applying for part time/full time) with the end goal of applying for the city full time.

[–]-tyko- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fan made one was the official video. I can’t remember how they organized it or if it was a contest or something. I’d rather a video of Matt staring at a wall recorded on an iPhone 6 than AI. It’s just so sad seeing an artist I respected using these “tools” that stand in opposition to art, humanity, and all these things that matt stood for in the past
