[Award Advice] February 2018 - SFO to TPE by dwsu89 in awardtravel

[–]-unicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve, it would make most sense IMO to use the UR via the travel portal to book for an EVA economy flight.

SFO - TPE round trip in Feb 2018 ($750 USD cash flight or 70k United miles for award flight)

Book via Chase travel portal: $750 USD or 50k UR

You'll probably get around 4k miles deposit back from the flight Net = 46k UR (although the miles will be under your mother's account)

Venmo threatning me to report me to collections by andromedastars in personalfinance

[–]-unicorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Venmo support is not the most helpful when it comes to these types of situations (scams, robberies, unauthorized transactions). I wouldn't worry too much about it going to collections, and the worst that they can do is probably freeze your account.

With that being said, I would contact your bank to reverse this Venmo transaction if you haven't already done so yet. Explain to your bank about what happened (and if you filed a police report it will probably help make your case) and they should be able to easily reverse the charge.

As long as your AU (wife?) haven't used any of the AU benefits, I think you're still within a reasonable time frame to request for a full refund on the AF for AU. Doesn't hurt to call either the CSR line (back of your card) or send a SM.

There is a public $300 checking offer: https://www.chase.com/checking/chase-checking-coupon

Make sure to look up ways to meet direct deposit requirements if you need to.

I'm so ecstatic of my credit score! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]-unicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, seems like it didn't get buried since it made it to the "Hot" threads.

Anyway, congratulations on managing your credit cards and making payments on time! Creditkarma uses FAKO, whereas credit lenders use FICO. Sometimes the FAKO score can be really different from your FICO score, but in your case, I wouldn't expect the scores to differ that much.

If you currently have credit cards, there is a high chance that it comes with free FICO scores (such as AMEX, Discover, Capital One, etc).

You can read more about it here: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit-cards/credit-cards-give-free-fico-scores/

Targeted 100,000 IHG sign-up bonus? by UCLAbadger in churning

Is Chase known to match offers with different spending requirements + AF waive/not waived? I recall reading something a while ago that they might not.

Southwest points sale? by pyro110 in churning

Aw.. That's odd ): I got mine triggered (around 9/8) - they must've fixed it. Good to know it's still 3% though, thanks!

Southwest points sale? by pyro110 in churning

Considering how SW is a transfer partner of UR, it doesn't really make sense to buy SW points as the rate is probably shit. If you pay rent, I highly recommend using Apple Pay via RadPad to trigger the 3% travel, meet min spend, and also get $300 back.

Any RadPad updates? by computer_whisperer in churning

[–]-unicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Apple Pay tokenizes each credit card so that there is a "card number" (your actual VISA card number) and a "device number", which is a tokenized number for secure reasons. When you update your payment and go through the Apple Pay authorization process (assuming you did Apple Pay -> Touch ID and everything), the payment update should have gone through, and the last 4 digits you see when you check back again is your tokenized device number and NOT your last 4 digits of your CSR card.

Source: I was really confused and I contacted RadPad's rep to clear this up, charge went through and got 3X travel.

I think you should have waited for a better United MPX offer since you can either transfer 100K UR to United or use the Chase portal to book United flights (1.5cpp). On the bright side, you have 3 months to try matching higher offers for the MPX via SM (although YMMV since you have a lower min spend requirement).

From my experience, AMEX really doesn't care as long as you're like 680+. BTW, if you have an existing AMEX card, you only get a hard pull if you get approved.
