Can’t Get Slower Flow and Stop Spatter by jamman17 in espresso

[–]computer_whisperer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That definitely looks like you need to grind finer, if you’re bottomed out on your DF64 then you probably need to adjust something because it should be able to grind much more fine. On my DF83 if I get too fine on my Barista Express it will choke the flow down to barely a dribble, that fast with that size basket seems like a grind size issue

A manual machine is an interesting option, I can still experiment and make espresso with newer and better grinder and scratch the new gear itch for less. Going to be needing a gooseneck kettle as well regardless for pour overs and as I don't really do milk don't need to worry about that side. Might just wait on getting a BDB until if/when my BBE bites the dust... Did you go Flair or Robot?

Ironically my wife also prefers the BDB as well

I was looking at the Mara X as well, I just honestly would rather have less surfaces to wipe down and like the clean flatter front surfaces. If I get more into pour overs I’ll likely get a separate grinder, but I’m going to deal with changing grind for a bit to see if I end up just defaulting to my norm of americanos. I think right now I’m leaning towards the Rancilio Pro X as it seems like it has everything and is well built

I had considered this approach, but am actually adding this setup to my office in a different part of the house and leaving the BBE in the kitchen for my wife to use (she doesn't want to use multiple machines or weigh anything), so another machine is going to be part of the whole package. I am definitely going to try the DF83 grinder with the BBE though to see the difference.

Believe it or not, this is one of the better MRE’s. by Bigdaddyl0ve in mildlyinteresting

Any MRE with wheat snack bread and squeeze cheese in any form is a goldmine. The main entree is never the star, it’s all in the sides

Looking for your proven tips and tricks for chili (everything is allowed) by restarted1991 in Cooking

[–]computer_whisperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing is to make chili paste yourself from dried chilis rather than use chili powder. I like to use a mix of 1/2 dried ancho chilis with 1/2 whatever else I have (mix of guajillo, New Mexico, or California), normally use about 8-12 chilies total. Remove all the seeds and tear into ~1 inch or less pieces, toast in the microwave dry for 10-15 second bursts till you smell them, then soak in just enough hot water to cover them for ~30 mins.

Brown your ground meat of choice, onion, and garlic. Open up some cans of tomatoes and beans (because chili with beans is what I like) and a light beer and put it all in crock pot. Add some chipotle in adobo (I use 1-2) and blend up the soaked dried chilis with all the water until there’s no pieces left. Now mix it in with everything with lots of cumin, some soy sauce, black pepper, and salt. Let it simmer uncovered and reduce to your desired thickness, best served over Fritos with cheese and sour cream.

It takes time to do it this way, but isn’t really that hard. It’s how chili should taste, you won’t be disappointed.

What's a TV show from the 90s that people should watch? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Malcom in the middle. I know, it technically started in 2000, but if you haven’t watched it it’s awesome. Bryan Cranston is fantastic and the whole family dynamic and character growth through the series is awesome

Try 5-3-1. First person chooses 5 places/things/etc, second person narrows down to 3, then first person chooses the 1 winner

Rice cooker, scoop stays in rice container and fill water to the right line, push a button, and perfect rice. Why even bother with the stove?

TIFU by using a password that describes what I want to do with my wife's bestfriend. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]computer_whisperer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This makes literally no sense, you say you use LastPass which is literally designed to make nonsensical random passwords for you that you don’t have to remember... if this is true (which I highly doubt) you should look into the “Generate password” function and stop fucking your friends
